i feel like deep down i always knew that ben gordon was the correct comparison but would never admit it to myself

i checked their per game stats really quick after thinking of that before i posted it and am v. proud of myself after seeing their career shooting percentages and advanced rate stats.

call all destroyer, Saturday, 22 December 2018 01:21 (five years ago) link

the advanced rate stats are eerie

J0rdan S., Saturday, 22 December 2018 09:25 (five years ago) link

wow, that's impressively bad to look at on my laptop.

i know teams don't like to unload rookies that look somewhat promising, but there are a bunch on that list that are a long way from being actual good nba players.

"I'd say you have 8 to 12 months to figure it out" - bill simmons has set the timetable

it is so bizarre to pivot from 'dad talk with assholes' to this attempt at barbara walters style interview

why date Ryan Adams in the first place? (Sufjan Grafton), Thursday, 24 January 2019 17:14 (five years ago) link

Simmons moves to Gab in 2020.

u know what just gotta say credit to the guy he is good at understanding tech, way early on blogvoice and early enough on pods to become huge in both; not really my cup of tea but hes obvs great at actually doing them too

lag∞n, Friday, 17 January 2020 23:37 (four years ago) link

funny to think if espn hung on to grantland it wld be way profitable by now via pods

lag∞n, Friday, 17 January 2020 23:38 (four years ago) link

bill simmons is often wrong but usually good

k3vin k., Friday, 17 January 2020 23:43 (four years ago) link

i like bill, but his posse of old buddies can be awful

if you're in the thread, keep on posting (Sufjan Grafton), Friday, 17 January 2020 23:51 (four years ago) link

i cant stand his whole tone its p much a non starter for me tho i did used to like his basketball columns back in the day

lag∞n, Friday, 17 January 2020 23:52 (four years ago) link

also i do not pod

lag∞n, Friday, 17 January 2020 23:52 (four years ago) link

if you're in the thread, keep on posting (Sufjan Grafton), Friday, 17 January 2020 23:52 (four years ago) link

i just really dont like listening to recordings of ppl talking like radio audio books whatever im just not into it i find it irritating

lag∞n, Friday, 17 January 2020 23:54 (four years ago) link

i do it cos all the good ocntent is on there but i dont enjoy it. i listen at 1.25X speed so i can get through it quick and speed up the pod voice cadences

omg what did you type to find this gif? (Spottie), Friday, 17 January 2020 23:56 (four years ago) link

the only two pods i got into were on the same long drive the one abt the manson family and the one about buddy cianci they were both excellent

lag∞n, Friday, 17 January 2020 23:57 (four years ago) link

I'd like to go back to the 2001 version of me and say "in 2020, Simmons will *still* be talking about Rounders"

reggae mike love (polyphonic), Saturday, 18 January 2020 00:29 (four years ago) link

lmao

lag∞n, Saturday, 18 January 2020 00:30 (four years ago) link

Totally agree w p much all the negative criticisms but dude knows nba past and present. Generally find it worthwhile to put up with his grating qualities to get that sweet gooey bball knowledge.

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Saturday, 18 January 2020 01:54 (four years ago) link

That said I feel like he has same problem I have with most sports talk: too much "insider baseball shit", salary and trade talk, and not enough about strategy and personalities and scouting. Which is why you I've been gravitating to the ex or current player-run podcasts

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Saturday, 18 January 2020 01:57 (four years ago) link

yeah cld see that

lag∞n, Saturday, 18 January 2020 01:58 (four years ago) link

man but how else will you know if bill's college roommate ate a good brunch last weekend?

if you're in the thread, keep on posting (Sufjan Grafton), Saturday, 18 January 2020 02:02 (four years ago) link

i support anyone getting a good brunch so kudos to him

lag∞n, Saturday, 18 January 2020 02:06 (four years ago) link

classic lag∞n

mookieproof, Saturday, 18 January 2020 02:09 (four years ago) link

gotta be me!

lag∞n, Saturday, 18 January 2020 02:10 (four years ago) link

To me, the insider stuff is the only reason to listen to him on basketball. If he tries to talk strategy or scouting, I'm fastforwarding to the brunch talk.

reggae mike love (polyphonic), Saturday, 18 January 2020 02:14 (four years ago) link

Well there's insider stuff from player perspective which I love a ton. And there's insider stuff from a beat reporter type perspective or about the league as a business, which I could not care less about. Different strokes tho obv. Seems like most sports fans eat that stuff up.

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Saturday, 18 January 2020 02:19 (four years ago) link

By insider stuff I mean more like "Delonte West fucked Lebron's mom"

reggae mike love (polyphonic), Saturday, 18 January 2020 02:26 (four years ago) link

loool

lag∞n, Saturday, 18 January 2020 02:30 (four years ago) link

Lol. Ya I don't care about the soap opera stuff

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Saturday, 18 January 2020 02:55 (four years ago) link

there are plenty of things to get on bill about, but it's pretty darn impressive what he's built from scratch in barely five years.

call all destroyer, Saturday, 18 January 2020 03:32 (four years ago) link

can someone briefly explain how podcasts make money (i really have no idea). are people paying to subscribe?

mookieproof, Saturday, 18 January 2020 03:35 (four years ago) link

in-pod ads are v common

Clay, Saturday, 18 January 2020 03:38 (four years ago) link

ok, thanks

lol advertisers

mookieproof, Saturday, 18 January 2020 03:40 (four years ago) link

squarespace, stamps dot com, and leesa mattress. Most have also begun to ask siri or google questions during the cast in the form of a really shit disguised ad.

if you're in the thread, keep on posting (Sufjan Grafton), Saturday, 18 January 2020 03:44 (four years ago) link

a lot of them also have subscriber things where u get special eps and so forth

chapo pulling down a cool $150k a month on patreon https://www.patreon.com/chapotraphouse

lag∞n, Saturday, 18 January 2020 03:46 (four years ago) link

i was stunned when i looked into pod advertising rates; given the low overhead you can make a *lot* of money if you have the audience

call all destroyer, Saturday, 18 January 2020 03:49 (four years ago) link

just talk into the mic baby!

lag∞n, Saturday, 18 January 2020 05:47 (four years ago) link

I back only one podcast patreon, for now.

Swilling Ambergris, Esq. (silby), Saturday, 18 January 2020 05:50 (four years ago) link

who is it

lag∞n, Saturday, 18 January 2020 05:52 (four years ago) link

if i listened to podcasts, or honestly deeply cared about the NBA, i would absolutely pay like a dollar a month to hear lag∞n and k3vin talk about hoops -- except that i get a dollar back every time the celtics are mentioned

mookieproof, Saturday, 18 January 2020 06:07 (four years ago) link

what kevin just gets to talk abt whatever he wants and im oppressed over here

lag∞n, Saturday, 18 January 2020 06:10 (four years ago) link

u want a podcast abt nikola jokic is that what you want
