best bit of that game is where you do quick time events to um do Aphrodite

Neil S, Wednesday, 19 December 2018 21:55 (five years ago) link

such a bad game but lots of ppl like it so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Mordy, Wednesday, 19 December 2018 21:55 (five years ago) link

the old god of war games are kind of abhorrent imo

ciderpress, Wednesday, 19 December 2018 22:08 (five years ago) link

abhorrent?

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 19 December 2018 23:08 (five years ago) link

i presume cider means "explicitly sexist, hyperviolent orgies of machismo"

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Wednesday, 19 December 2018 23:16 (five years ago) link

Well, yeah.

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 19 December 2018 23:16 (five years ago) link

But for $3!

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 19 December 2018 23:16 (five years ago) link

My favourite God of War game is using Kratos as an Everybody's Golf character.

Non, je ned raggette rien (onimo), Thursday, 20 December 2018 01:26 (five years ago) link

Night in the Woods is $12! I'm getting this one for def.

Siouxie Sioux Vide (Leee), Friday, 21 December 2018 19:02 (five years ago) link

its good but a major downer

ciderpress, Friday, 21 December 2018 19:18 (five years ago) link

That is my jam tbh.

Siouxie Sioux Vide (Leee), Friday, 21 December 2018 20:07 (five years ago) link

bought it on switch (also on sale there)

na (NA), Friday, 21 December 2018 21:38 (five years ago) link

Child of Light, which has been on my wishlist forever and was one of the first interesting looking games for the system imo, is $6. Anybody want to rep?

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Friday, 21 December 2018 22:16 (five years ago) link

i didn't like it

ciderpress, Friday, 21 December 2018 23:57 (five years ago) link

hm, okay. i may try the demo

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Saturday, 22 December 2018 03:29 (five years ago) link

it had a pretty basic/boring ATB-esque combat system with a real-time wrinkle the problem was i didn't think the real-time wrinkle was fun. there's a pretty big opportunity cost to adding a real-time mechanic to a turn based system imo and this was definitely Not It

the thing where the entire script is in rhyme was more grating than cute to me as well but ymmv on that

ciderpress, Saturday, 22 December 2018 05:06 (five years ago) link

agreed on the rhyming stuff, started skipping it after a while
I liked the battle system a bit more, but it outstayed its welcome in what is a relatively short game
overall it's an OK game but there are so many better choices out there, something like Cosmic Star Heroine is a lot more fun all round

( X '____' )/ (zappi), Saturday, 22 December 2018 05:18 (five years ago) link

Cool, thanks for the feedback.

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Saturday, 22 December 2018 05:44 (five years ago) link

there are no good podcasts (||||||||), Thursday, 27 December 2018 13:34 (five years ago) link

... or just play through the last of us again. if only I could find that DOOM disc

there are no good podcasts (||||||||), Thursday, 27 December 2018 13:43 (five years ago) link

some sort of enhanced version or port of P5 is heavily rumoured to be announced in the next few days, maybe hold off until then?

tracer how are you (and kids) enjoying DRIVE CLUB

there are no good podcasts (||||||||), Thursday, 27 December 2018 23:36 (five years ago) link

it has real cars and takes a bit of skill but it's like the anti-GT in terms of just throwing you into it, zero setup required, plus allowing you to perform ridiculous drifts, which is exactly what i need right now in my life

illegal economic migration (Tracer Hand), Friday, 28 December 2018 04:01 (five years ago) link

however if you have played a lot of GT you have a lot of "unlearning" to do, mainly in terms of braking. in GT you need to slam on the brakes for a long, realistic amount of time just before corners. in driveclub, you just tap the brakes slightly and that's enough.

also, no local 2-player split screen :(

illegal economic migration (Tracer Hand), Sunday, 30 December 2018 11:50 (five years ago) link

the p5 thing turned out to be an announcement of an announcement so if you dont want to wait until march to find out how long you have to wait to get the enhanced p5 then go for it

ciderpress, Monday, 31 December 2018 20:25 (five years ago) link

might just bag it now

there are no good podcasts (||||||||), Monday, 31 December 2018 20:49 (five years ago) link

Is induced coma no longer a viable strategy for March?

Siouxie Sioux Vide (Leee), Monday, 31 December 2018 21:02 (five years ago) link

Souls got a lot darker over the past two years.

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Monday, 31 December 2018 21:16 (five years ago) link

I finished the first Gravity Rush and have started on the second, and even watched the short anime -- which was really good and funny! The games are pretty charming too.

Siouxie Sioux Vide (Leee), Thursday, 10 January 2019 20:00 (five years ago) link

cold steel 3 being announced as a ps4 exclusive means i get to play the "do i really buy one of these for 2 games" game later this year

ciderpress, Thursday, 17 January 2019 14:22 (five years ago) link

if there's one more exclusive i care about that shows up or if persona 5 doesn't end up on switch then i'll go for it

ciderpress, Thursday, 17 January 2019 16:11 (five years ago) link

I'm going to try to make Gravity Rush 2 happen here. Played it a bunch last night and it was the perfect breezy fast paced game, although it's taken a while for the game to reach this point.

Oleeever St. John Yogurty (Leee), Saturday, 19 January 2019 17:57 (five years ago) link

i'm somewhat interested in it, as i said upthread it looks great in gifs

ciderpress, Saturday, 19 January 2019 18:12 (five years ago) link

the GR games look cool but end up in the eternal backlog

Nhex, Saturday, 19 January 2019 20:12 (five years ago) link

There's a delightful scene set in a jazz club which kind of captures the essence of this game: awkward and stuttering but slowly fills in its empty spaces with charm and magic. And later, the new powers that you get which give even MOAR magic. And the dialogue, even though it's mostly unvoiced (and even when it is, it's just a Japanese interpretation of what French sounds like (which really is even more delight)), is so well written and funny.

I should also mention the visceral delight of just crashing into the ground and through things.

Oleeever St. John Yogurty (Leee), Saturday, 19 January 2019 22:54 (five years ago) link

There is a side quest where you have to fill up a meter called DOGGY JOY.

(Sadly, that side quest is otherwise unfun.)

Oleeever St. John Yogurty (Leee), Tuesday, 22 January 2019 18:02 (five years ago) link

Are the dogs into some dark shit?

Andrew Farrell, Tuesday, 22 January 2019 19:17 (five years ago) link

Nah, the gameplay mechanics are rubbish.

Oleeever St. John Yogurty (Leee), Tuesday, 22 January 2019 20:28 (five years ago) link

Dead Cells slightly on sale now: https://store.playstation.com/en-us/product/UP4016-CUSA11253_00-DEADCELLS0000000

Oleeever St. John Yogurty (Leee), Friday, 25 January 2019 21:42 (five years ago) link

can't decide whether it's worth paying a little more to have it on the switch...

Mordy, Friday, 25 January 2019 21:46 (five years ago) link

Alright, i'll finally give this a shot; seems like it's very much up my alley.

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Friday, 25 January 2019 21:53 (five years ago) link

https://www.humblebundle.com/games/indie-playstation-bundle-2019
Deep PS4 steam discounts:
$1 for Grim Fandango, Bard's Tale and Inner Space
$10 for Broken Age, Wasteland 2, Talos Principle and Layers of Fear + above
$15 for Shadow Warrior 2, Killing Floor 2 + above

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Tuesday, 29 January 2019 22:17 (five years ago) link

i'm guessing Shadow Warrior and Killing Floor not worth paying for the top tier?

Nhex, Wednesday, 30 January 2019 03:00 (five years ago) link

Probably not...but I've paid 15 anyway.

JimD, Wednesday, 30 January 2019 11:21 (five years ago) link

I just remembered that I have a PS4 20% off coupon that's set to expire this month, I was probably saving it for an early TLOU2 release but clearly that's not happening. Gimme non-soulsborne rex!

Stateleee, Plump Buck Mulleeegan (Leee), Friday, 1 February 2019 01:08 (five years ago) link

whatve you played and liked already

ciderpress, Friday, 1 February 2019 01:16 (five years ago) link

have you played yakuza 0

ciderpress, Friday, 1 February 2019 01:20 (five years ago) link

TLOU is god-tier
Hollow Knight would be too if I were better at it/it weren't so hard
HZD, Nier Automata, Persona 5 all have various flaws but once they hit, it feels like a kiss
Dead Cells I just started, outside of my usual comfort zone but good
GOW is fun, good combat mechanix, but ultimately a shallow experience
LIS1 peaked about halfway through then completely cratered
Witcher 3 boring
Bloodborne ugh not my thing

PS - no horror games.

Maybe GTA5? MGS5 (MGS4 ruined the franchise for me)?

Havne't played any of the Yakuzas, is that the right entry point?

Stateleee, Plump Buck Mulleeegan (Leee), Friday, 1 February 2019 01:26 (five years ago) link

yes, 0 is the entry point, its a prequel to the series thats intended as such
