NEIL YOUNG ARCHIVES BOX: IT'S REALLY HAPPENING

I'm a made man.

So....to get presale tickets for one of the three theater shows he's doing in Minneapolis I am a card carrying subscriber to Neil Young Archives.

Is there anything supposed to be exclusive to subscribers? I can't really find anything so far...

Songs for Judy is fine but I dunno, it's like...the 5th most interesting solo acoustic Archives release?

i dunno, i think it's my favorite of his solo acoustic things? nice and stoney and loose, some real deep cuts. massey hall is probably the closest competition. it's just dumb that there isn't a second disc of crazy horse stuff from the same tour.

yeah, it sounds awesome! just funny that 30+ years into the archives process, they're like "what the hell is this? we should put this out!"
dunno about crazy horse touring ... my guess is if they do more shows it'll be along the lines of this year's california shows (a short run).

Songs for Judy is double lp and $25ish, Hitchhiker single vinyl I think I paid around $17 but was also at my local Mom n pop so could have been cheaper probably

I'm confused...are they saying only these unreleased tracks were recorded at Plywood Analog? Because the album (according to the liner notes) was recorded at Plywood Digital, and was the second of three (or four, if you count Arc-Weld) albums he recorded digitally before he realized he hated digital recording.

there's a video in the archives now with him going through various old memorabilia and you can kinda tell that the people working for him are like "this is going to be our only chance for the next year to get him to pay attention to this shit"

should be good! hilarious that 30+ years into the process, Neil is still just making it up. This isn't even listed on the NYA "Timeline" and has never been mentioned as a possible release til a few months ago (ditto the Ragged Glory II thing he teased a little while back).

Dumb question, maybe, but would that electric '76 collection they mention in the Songs For Judy liner notes be the same thing as Odeon/Budokan? Or would that be completely different '76 stuff? Either way, I want more of that stuff soon.

Odeon / Budokan is from the Spring 1976 tour. The Electric '76 tour would be from the fall shows. (Fairly doubtful that the latter collection is forthcoming any time soon, but who knows?)

There's a video of Neil doing a beautiful version of "Birds" from a CSNY Fillmore East show on the site right now....is that something that's been released before??

a bunch of video stuff that's new or i never noticed....in the 90s he did some weird "show" where it was model trains and they did funny voices for the little small model train model guys???

archives site remains totally frustrating ... whole lotta talk about unreleased stuff, not a lot of actual unreleased stuff.

IIRC, those CSNY Fillmore shows were filmed for a movie that didn't come out, but Neil hijacked the footage for Journey Through The Past and other docs.

here's what I know:

Neil’s Comes A Time LP went through a variety of iterations before it was finally released in 1978. The original was Oceanside-Countryside, recorded in Fort Lauderdale and Nashville in early 1977. “Oceanside-Countryside was a record I felt really good about,” Neil wrote in a recent Times-Contrarian post. “It was quite a personal record, mostly made up of acoustic songs which had no bass or drums.” The LP was done and dusted – but Reprise suggested that Neil add more instrumentation to the mix. Uncharacteristically, he took his label’s advice and recorded the more fleshed out material that ended up dominating the released Comes A Time. But Oceanside-Countryside promises a more intimate listening experience. Neil calls it “a breath of fresh air.”
