369 was my #1 too, even though the lead track (or at least the one that got a promo video) was probably my least favourite of that era.

I'll disclose right now which track missed out, because it's probably more of a technical thing than a quality thing: "Act of the Apostle II." Some votes for "AotA" might have implied support for both parts.

These last few kept swapping places right up to yesterday. There ultimately wasn't a huge amount it.

"IN it."

Nag! Nag! Nag!, Wednesday, 12 December 2018 23:45 (five years ago) link

369 was my favorite too. couldn't decide which songs from it to put on my tracks list, ended up with Beautiful and Put the Book Back on the Shelf but it could have been any of the four

Dan S, Wednesday, 12 December 2018 23:56 (five years ago) link

I need to perform some last minute quality control checks on the tracks ballot. And I've only just grasped the final positions for the first few. I shall endeavour to commence that bit some 9-10 hours from now. (Perhaps late morning, Greenwich Mean Time!?!)

Nag! Nag! Nag!, Thursday, 13 December 2018 00:04 (five years ago) link

Amazing work so far. I'd had 3..6..9 top too and it wasn't really a tough decision. Can't wait for the tracks results.

I should arguably have had someone competent do graphics, but it turns out I *really* like adding tints to dorky band portraits.

I get the impression at least one person will find this placement disappointing.

Nag! Nag! Nag!, Thursday, 13 December 2018 09:48 (five years ago) link

That would've been my number 1, if I'd voted. Way too low obv.

damn... forgot to vote!

frame casual (dog latin), Thursday, 13 December 2018 10:10 (five years ago) link

I like it a lot, but do find it to be one of the weaker tracks on a really great albums.

mfktz (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Thursday, 13 December 2018 10:11 (five years ago) link

How can multiple people have forgotten to vote and yet we have so many ballots?

mfktz (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Thursday, 13 December 2018 10:11 (five years ago) link

I didn't forget but hadn't time

lbi's life of limitless european glamour (Le Bateau Ivre), Thursday, 13 December 2018 10:12 (five years ago) link

one of the more minor tracks on Tigermilk but that means it's still really quite good

noh, we always knew..

I recognised all the religious metaphors from my Catholic upbringing, but imagined he was just using them as a source of vivid imagary, right up to this point.

My Tigermilk choices were a bit more arbitrary than those for other albums. In retrospect I should maybe have picked I Don't Love Anyone, just on the basis of how often I've found myself singing it since relistening to the album.

Alba, Thursday, 13 December 2018 10:48 (five years ago) link

All songs in the countdown so far have started with the letter I. How long can this carry on?

Alba, Thursday, 13 December 2018 10:49 (five years ago) link

Love Sarah Martin's vocals on Caught in Love, especially the 'give up your will' bit. The simple village girl verse is far more embarrassing than anyone's religion though.

Brand Slipper, Thursday, 13 December 2018 10:50 (five years ago) link

I think some of Write About Love is very much in the same vein as their early stuff. I Want The World To Stop probably is my favorite 2010’s B&S next to I Didn’t See It Coming

^ I was generally avoiding front covers for this bit, as we've seen a lot of them already, but then I saw this charming TBASB promo CD cover.

Can I put in the first "too low!" here?

mfktz (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Thursday, 13 December 2018 11:06 (five years ago) link

Too high!

Alba, Thursday, 13 December 2018 11:09 (five years ago) link

That will be my last piece of carping about my dislike of The Life Pursuit. Sorry.

Alba, Thursday, 13 December 2018 11:11 (five years ago) link

the blues rock thing they do on this one really does nothing for me

ufo, Thursday, 13 December 2018 11:11 (five years ago) link

I'm generally down with The Life Pursuit but I seem to get the least mileage out of the Bolan-esque bits.

Nag! Nag! Nag!, Thursday, 13 December 2018 11:22 (five years ago) link

Wish I'd voted to drive the Blues higher. It's such a festival of sweet supporting details and goofy vocal tics. But then I'm in the minority who think that Side A of TLP is the best sequencing they ever did. Weird that people don't like its big pay-off moment.

Brand Slipper, Thursday, 13 December 2018 11:23 (five years ago) link

I like I Fought in a War a lot but it does have one fatal flaw: the implausible concept of Stuart Murdoch having fought in a war.

Alba, Thursday, 13 December 2018 11:29 (five years ago) link

Fold Your Hands - so many good songs jumbled up with some very bad songs. I Fought In a War serves as a promising intro though.

Also: too low!

Nag! Nag! Nag!, Thursday, 13 December 2018 11:44 (five years ago) link

yes, a serious "too low!" now, a top 5 for me easily, such a joy from start to finish this one

mfktz (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Thursday, 13 December 2018 11:45 (five years ago) link

I mentioned Songs for Children!

Alba, Thursday, 13 December 2018 11:52 (five years ago) link

Yes, I see you did! I guess I meant that no-one highlighted it as the main attraction or indicated that they were voting principally for SFC. :)

I'd have voted for PTBBOTS anyway but the SFC coda pushed it way up my ballot.

Alba, Thursday, 13 December 2018 12:03 (five years ago) link

one of many very lovely songs that didn't quite make my ballot. the This Is Just A Modern Rock Song EP is definitely my favourite EP - it's so delightful the whole way through while even Lazy Line Painter Jane has an oddity like A Century of Elvis on it
