Yeah. But ... I think that feeling is bad. So that rubs weirdly against my feeling that the song is good. I guess it gets at the question of whether critique is possible via exaggeration/reduction or is it better to posit an alternative, to say nothing of the question as to whether art’s job is critique in the first place

maybe im wrong idk but i find it weirdly affirming that my experience of being ineffectual in a society that disempowers the individual is also an experience shared by others

It's a cool song, though I like the "How to Draw" half a little more. There's still a lot of songs in the back half of this album I can't really get into tho. Wish I could hear what you all hear in "Inside Your Mind". But others have grown a lot on me: "Sincerity is Scary" and "It's Not Living" are A+. So generous that this band continues to throw bones like "It's Not Living" to fans like me that adore the first album most

Bon Iver must be lying in a ditch somewhere in the woods, wrapped up in fetus position and bawling his eyes out, because he knows he'll never write a song as gorgeous as 'I Couldn't Be More In Love'.

also wild to think that the album hype cycle is about to start up again in only a month or two

last years album kind of disappointing

I was browsing in a shop a couple of days ago and they had 'She Way Out' blasting out really loud, and it actually sounded amazing at that volume. It got me revisiting the first album again.

and you realized it is awesome

and I realised that while Healy has become a much better singer since and there's moments on the record that make me wince a bit on the vocal front, the album is packed with bangers.

I think Healy sings some of these songs better live nowadays. I really hated 'Chocolate' until I heard a recent live version, and the way they start that song off live with just the interlocking guitar licks is a neat touch!

'M.O.N.E.Y.' sounds great live tol. At this point, it's only really the closing track that I can't really get into.

I wish 'You' had been on this album.

I posted that upthread two weeks ago! But I guess I used a mobile link and it didn't embed.

But yeah it's great, they (unsurprisingly) use it as the backdrop when they play it live and it works really well.

My appreciation of that one has only increased - I thought it was a bit formless on first listen, but over time I've realised just how cathartic it is to bellow along to.

The back half of the album ('Inside Your Mind' to 'I Always Wanna Die (Sometimes)') has become my favourite part of the album now.
