That reminds me what a really weird time 2001 was for football.

Right around the time they were boasting how pocket passers were a thing of the past, Michael Vick was the QB of the future, and that mobile running QBs were going to be taking over the league.

So what happens? Vick's in jail, Donovan is more of a pocket passer now, McNair became more of a pocket passer, and everybody learns that being a good pocket passer beats being a guy that can rush for 1,000 yards as a QB.

Shaun King failed in Arena Football too...FYI. As did Adrian MacPherson

So what happens? Vick's in jail, Donovan gets hurt and gets older, McNair got hurt and got older, and everybody learns that older injuried athletes, as good as they might've once been, can't run loosey goosey around the field like they once did.

McNair had a lot of pep left in his tank when he settled in to become more of a pocket passer--he was forced into that due to the degradation of Eddie George's running ability in 2001.

McNabb isn't exactly old, either. He became more of a pocket passer a few years ago. Sure, injuries play into it somewhat, but he had his best success as a pocket passer. His numbers were merely 'good' when he was taking own downfield (and yes, true, he didn't have anybody to throw to, but who does he have now?)

Who else in the league is playing that style of football right now, other than maybe David Gerard?

Vince Young when he's on the field. Rodgers wants to but is beginning to find out why he cant.

I think there's a good chance Owens will be on much better behavior with a quarterback he respects and considers a good friend in McNabb. And McNabb is the king of his locker room, the way Derek Jeter lords over the Yankees' clubhouse. McNabb will be able to keep Owens in line if he strays.

Probably.

6. On a given day the Saints can be the best team in football. They have the best defensive line depth in the NFC, a great back and a quarterback who plays some great games. If Aaron Brooks screws his head on right, and they stop making the dumb turnovers and penalties (which have been a staple of this team in recent years), they're my darkhorse Super Bowl team. But those are very big ifs. Which is why I'm not even picking them to make the playoffs. I think they'll be 9-7, maybe 10-6.

7. Bad year for New Jersey football and Bay Area football. Jets, Giants, Niners, Raiders ... no more than one of them will be over .500.

8. MVP: Jake Plummer.
