in a way it kind of reminded me of the maximalism of that rustie album from way back when but with faux baroque madrigals instead of wonky space war noises. personally i love the balance of its beauty and its physicality, but yes you do have to be in the mood for a bit of a bruising

the flasher album is pretty solid but didn't stand out as anything too special to me when i listened recently. also still confused by sweetener being ariana's critical breakthrough

The NPR list is a little on the nose but I do honestly love that their top 10 are all women.

favourite find from EOY lists season so far is the Idris Ackamoor album from The Quietus list

As a fan, I agree it's a bit of a step down; still a really good album, tho

this is a weird year for me -- the albums I love that I assumed would also be consensus picks (and that aren't the obvious ones, everyone knew the robyn album would do well, etc.) are turning out not to be at all

Such as? An album which almost everyone seemed to forget about was the MGMT one. If it had been released in the past trimester I think it would have fared a lot better.

Wow, this previous Rosalía album (Los Ángeles) is even better... terrific stuff.
