lol, i remember max getting dunked on by gawker people https://gawker.com/here-is-a-massive-list-of-max-read-owns-1721074738

circles, Thursday, 29 November 2018 01:41 (five years ago) link

as a brand name, 'everlane' somehow manages to sound waspier than 'vineyard vines'

itsabot! (rip van wanko), Thursday, 29 November 2018 01:48 (five years ago) link

lag∞n, Thursday, 29 November 2018 01:54 (five years ago) link

i bought some everlane stuff and returned it. it was nasty. like if h&m only sold stuff in white and grey.

𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Thursday, 29 November 2018 03:31 (five years ago) link

Vineyard Vines is the most amazingly stupid name. Everlane is just one in a long line of brands claiming to solve some sort of clothing problem right?

chinavision!, Thursday, 29 November 2018 03:52 (five years ago) link

Oh wait Untuckit is the most amazingly stupid name. But accurate?

chinavision!, Thursday, 29 November 2018 03:56 (five years ago) link

Untuckit just kills me.

lag∞n, Thursday, 29 November 2018 15:25 (five years ago) link

i feel like theres ilx posts circa 2010 with dan p freaking about bonobos shitty ads & looking back im kinda proud of these guys for sticking around long enough to make these pants and have them posted derisively to ilx

(° . ° )― (Lamp), Thursday, 29 November 2018 15:27 (five years ago) link

bonobos is garbage

Fedora Dostoyevsky (man alive), Thursday, 29 November 2018 15:51 (five years ago) link

i don't like bonobos

i gave them an honest chance when i went to their store on la brea (la) and it just wasn't my thing

F# A# (∞), Thursday, 29 November 2018 17:59 (five years ago) link

i went to the bonobos store on 5th ave (right next to the untucked shirt store!) b/c i desperately needed pants and they told me i couldn't actually buy any pants there, i would have to order them and then pick them up later--"this is a showroom." fuck a showroom for pants.

adam, Thursday, 29 November 2018 18:15 (five years ago) link

the weirdest thing about untuckit to me is that lots of shirts look fine untucked. it's not a really rare attribute of a shirt

( ͡☉ ͜ʖ ͡☉) (jim in vancouver), Thursday, 29 November 2018 18:20 (five years ago) link

xp

that's there model, right? you just go and try it on and they order everything and have it delivered to you

F# A# (∞), Thursday, 29 November 2018 18:26 (five years ago) link

I mean I have just found the quality of Bonobos products to be really bad for the money. There was a point at which they had my favorite polo shirt but then more recently I ordered some and they had clearly changed -- collars baconed after one wash (cold, hang dry) and never returned to normal. Their dress shirts feel rough and don't hang well on me, even the higher end ones (I bought one once on clearance). The pants are actually mostly fine, better than everlane, and I have gotten work pants from them a couple times.

There once was a man from Untuckit...

as far as dumb ex fratboy type brands go i got some "outlier" "futureworks" pants and they are good

adam, Thursday, 29 November 2018 19:56 (five years ago) link

Bonobos trousers — on sale — are a good deal. Nice colors, good fit. Haven’t tried their expensive shirts.

Thraed in which we post meaningless nonsense syllables at one another

I mean, someone could simply post "shmurple" right now and we would be like "Hmmm. I haven't heard of that site."

There's more Italy than necessary. (in orbit), Thursday, 29 November 2018 21:50 (five years ago) link

Admittedly I blame Amazon for some of the more outrageous ones, like Qpladlse, Eomenie, Arinla, Quartly, Femaroly, Ladninag, Mansy, Romacci, Fumic, Sellse, YESNO, Floerns, AUSILY, etc.

I randomly started getting Marine Layer catalogs, another one where the name (and styles) feel a bit auto-generated.

xp. wow these are real?!

rip van wanko, Friday, 30 November 2018 00:14 (five years ago) link

Literally go on Amazon and search for any one of those.

lol i have outlier jeans and a weird rain jacket thing from them and theyre both fantastic. tbh i like a bunch of their "Experiments" as i also love cowl necks and clothes made out of nanites or helicopter sheeting or living silk but they are often sold out when i think about getting them which tbh isnt all that often

feel like "ex-fratboy" is slotting the brand into the wrong sociological framework tho

$100 basic t-shirt, idk that just bugs me. I'm sure it's a great fucking t-shirt

rip van wanko, Friday, 30 November 2018 21:29 (five years ago) link

just looking at their website and their chino pants on the homepage look v good and in general stuff looks more like nerdy yuppie that cares about clothes than fratty

( ͡☉ ͜ʖ ͡☉) (jim in vancouver), Friday, 30 November 2018 21:37 (five years ago) link

well like a techy fratboy. or a prolific reddit poster who bathes.

adam, Friday, 30 November 2018 23:03 (five years ago) link

i think outlier (and other post-workwear non-luxury brands) are kind of interesting partly because their customers are sort of undefined but they have this unifying aesthetic nonetheless. like "guys with non-media jobs that live in cities"? but i like their focus on process and material, i like that they are trying to engage with technology in a way that isnt just like, "this is sweater but also an app" or w/e. fwiw i spent the morning e-mailing back & forth w/a store seeing if they could get me this thermal storage hooded so

one month passes...

I've been feeling this urge lately to buy some vintage Body Glove shirts, although they may just not suit me at all.

I think this is v beautiful for example

what is this brand Superdry? i see it mostly online. basic stuff, reminding me of American Apparel. it looks okay but is always really cheap which makes me wary.
