Yeah, there's four tiers. The Better Than Denmark, The Just as Good as Denmark, The Worse Than Denmark, and the A Lot Worse Than Denmark. Or at least that's how I understand it.

Frederik B, Monday, 19 November 2018 12:08 (five years ago) link

The concept works well at the lower levels, I think. Kosovo have battered all the teams in their division and get moved up to play better ones next time, for example.

I can’t think of many pure friendlies wrt England more memorable than the Spain and Croatia games recently.

I'd post a hearty "O'Neill Out" although I dont think it would get much better even if we did

Great idea of McLeish's to put Forrest on the bench for the first game against Israel. I'm giving McLeish absolutely no credit for any of this because the team that he's played for the last two games was forced on him through injuries and withdrawals, it picked itself. Left to his own devices he'd have undoubtedly picked a team of numpties and hod carriers, making sure he could make do with as few Celtic players as possible.

Monica Kindle (Tom D.), Tuesday, 20 November 2018 22:30 (five years ago) link

Wee Jamesy is a player

( ͡☉ ͜ʖ ͡☉) (jim in vancouver), Tuesday, 20 November 2018 22:33 (five years ago) link

He's scored some great goals in the last two games!

Monica Kindle (Tom D.), Tuesday, 20 November 2018 22:35 (five years ago) link

It looks like O'Neill is getting the road

. (Michael B), Wednesday, 21 November 2018 09:26 (five years ago) link

I know he has a reputation for negative, conservative football but do ye have anyone who could score a goal under any manager these days? It looks too early for Obafemi and idk who else there is.

Wag1 Shree Rajneesh (ShariVari), Wednesday, 21 November 2018 09:35 (five years ago) link

its hard to say. i mean its been a long time since we tried

old yeller-at-clouds (darraghmac), Wednesday, 21 November 2018 09:39 (five years ago) link

I'd have O'Neill as Scotland manager any day of the week btw.

gwan so

old yeller-at-clouds (darraghmac), Wednesday, 21 November 2018 10:38 (five years ago) link

We're more likely to get Michael than Martin tbh. Either would be better than Big Eck.

Draw!

Netherlands vs England
Portugal vs Switzerland

I'd be pretty #stokedforthemadness if I could figure out what this tournament is about.

Is there going to be a thread for the Euro 2020 qualification? I look forward to Denmark playing against Ireland two more times. Four times in a year wasn't really enough.

Maguire should probably have been off for a straight red after five minutes. Two bizarre, completely unnecessary tackles.

Eran Zahavi scored a twenty-minute hat trick for Israel. I’m looking forward to seeing what he does for PSV, he has been one of the most ludicrously prolific strikers in the world for years.

Nations League, wonderful tournament.

michaellambert, Wednesday, 14 October 2020 20:58 (three years ago) link

I think Harry Maguire might be even less likeable than John Terry. Easy to write him off as just a dumb slab head cunt but I sense a sort of spiteful vindictiveness in there. In another life the lads from Mindhunter would be visiting him in prison talking about all the animals he used to drown.

crisp, Wednesday, 14 October 2020 21:00 (three years ago) link

I almost felt a bit sorry for the cunt as he shambled off, Martin Tyler going on about this being “a terrible time in his life” or whatever. It’s all relative of course but he certainly looks like he’s got some stuff going on atm and could do with a holiday.

Windsor Davies, Wednesday, 14 October 2020 21:05 (three years ago) link

are we just going to ignore the fact that a charlton player scored a winning goal for a home nation

Chip-vill-A (imago), Wednesday, 14 October 2020 21:17 (three years ago) link

I still don't really understand this thing (I speak as a Scottish person). For most countries, isn't it the case that while it would be nice to win your group, the minute that stops looking likely you'd be better off getting relegated, so then you should try to lose your games?

Same! And it wasn't even our most prolific signing, because we signed effing Mario Götze this window o_O Zahavi has made impact on arrival, by the looks of it, he's quite the personality and scored in his first match. I never knew about him tbf.
