have these people done anything bad enough to warrant wishing death on them? i know lenin killed royals but not everything he did is to be emulated.

most of the current british royals seem like exceptionally spoiled and shitty ppl, to the point where i don't think i could really find someone to vote for in this poll. whereas when i read about the last romanov family, i always find myself feeling quite sympathetic for them. at any rate even if you think the tsar deserved a trial and execution i can't imagine anyone but the most lunatic tankie would cheer on the brutal massacre of young alexei and anastasia, etc., not to mention their servants and their *dogs* for fuck's sake.

The crossover in trajectories of Andrew and Mark Thatcher is quite interesting - squalid, grasping, scruple-free arms hawkers perpetually in awe of other more openly corrupt princlings and scions.

I certainly agree that given the extremely limited amount of power the UK royals currently wields, indiscriminate murder hardly seems like a proportional response.
― wayne trotsky (Simon H.), Wednesday, 14 November 2018 18:54 (five years ago) link
it’d be very discriminate murder imo

doesn't matter. voting is mandatory.

the royals aren't even that good at being the royal family - Diana was proof you can do it with more agility and charisma and populism.
that said, my grandmother's MBE for her work with adults with learning difficulties is her proudest achievement, and I kinda like that the source of that recognition isn't tied to a political party and the baggage that would entail. The royals are obviously not "politically neutral" but they have no real power, if they tried anything they know it would be game over for them.
― boxedjoy, Thursday, 15 November 2018 10:30 (five years ago) link

I like how Liz's three sons have grown up to exemplify three distinct strands of overpriviledged dickholery - pompous windbag, sleazy moron and clueless imbecile.
― mfktz (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Saturday, 17 November 2018 00:17 (five years ago) link
that there was no option for: 'drag this lot into a dingy cellar for summary execution by machine gun fire' was the major failing of this poll.

i didn't vote but charles seems less bad than lots of the others idk
the worst one is zara phillips for winning SPOTY that one time

so you missed that charming interaction where Charles answered "I don't think so" when an Asian woman from Manchester replied that she was from Manchester. Heydrich was probably less bad than Himmler because he was part-Jewish and could play the violin etc...
― calzino, Saturday, 17 November 2018 00:57 (five years ago) link
After being introduced to the prince, she says he asked where she was from. When she replied "Manchester", he reportedly quipped "Well, you don't look like it", before laughing and walking away.
that was it.

I do find something kind of admirable about Princess Anne's palpable contempt for the general public, and her disinclination to make any attempt to disguise this.
