have these people done anything bad enough to warrant wishing death on them? i know lenin killed royals but not everything he did is to be emulated.

most of the current british royals seem like exceptionally spoiled and shitty ppl, to the point where i don't think i could really find someone to vote for in this poll. whereas when i read about the last romanov family, i always find myself feeling quite sympathetic for them. at any rate even if you think the tsar deserved a trial and execution i can't imagine anyone but the most lunatic tankie would cheer on the brutal massacre of young alexei and anastasia, etc., not to mention their servants and their *dogs* for fuck's sake.

And their elephant iirc.

Wag1 Shree Rajneesh (ShariVari), Wednesday, 14 November 2018 18:25 (five years ago) link

Tbf they shouldn't have cowered behind it

Danton Lok (Noodle Vague), Wednesday, 14 November 2018 18:28 (five years ago) link

The crossover in trajectories of Andrew and Mark Thatcher is quite interesting - squalid, grasping, scruple-free arms hawkers perpetually in awe of other more openly corrupt princlings and scions.

Wag1 Shree Rajneesh (ShariVari), Wednesday, 14 November 2018 18:30 (five years ago) link

no one can reign innocently

( ͡☉ ͜ʖ ͡☉) (jim in vancouver), Wednesday, 14 November 2018 18:33 (five years ago) link

OK so that was Saint-Just, that's the speech that got Robespierre all a-flutter.

ROCK MUSIC (Tom D.), Wednesday, 14 November 2018 18:36 (five years ago) link

I certainly agree that given the extremely limited amount of power the UK royals currently wields, indiscriminate murder hardly seems like a proportional response.

wayne trotsky (Simon H.), Wednesday, 14 November 2018 18:54 (five years ago) link

it’d be very discriminate murder imo

the Stanley Kubrick of testicular torsion (bizarro gazzara), Wednesday, 14 November 2018 18:55 (five years ago) link

Yeah, we could just wing Harry and the in-laws

Danton Lok (Noodle Vague), Wednesday, 14 November 2018 18:57 (five years ago) link

Pippa Middleton goes for a run in West London and distracts other runners with her bum

mookieproof, Wednesday, 14 November 2018 19:23 (five years ago) link

she's not even a royal though. surely she will be spared ilx's cruel revolution.

Trϵϵship, Wednesday, 14 November 2018 19:25 (five years ago) link

George Brett
Saberhagen
Bo Jackson
Quizenberry
Eric Hosmer

frogbs, Wednesday, 14 November 2018 19:26 (five years ago) link

along with all other royal-adjacent figures, pippa will be given the opportunity to answer a thorough multiple-choice questionnaire to determine her ideological purity after the revolution occurs

the Stanley Kubrick of testicular torsion (bizarro gazzara), Wednesday, 14 November 2018 19:28 (five years ago) link

no respect for steve balboni

the Stanley Kubrick of testicular torsion (bizarro gazzara), Wednesday, 14 November 2018 19:33 (five years ago) link

Balboni's pathetic HR record standing for 30 freakin years is one of the most embarrassing things for any major league team

frogbs, Wednesday, 14 November 2018 19:33 (five years ago) link

Why does this poll assume I have a "favorite royal" or that such a thing is even possible?

A is for (Aimless), Wednesday, 14 November 2018 19:35 (five years ago) link

doesn't matter. voting is mandatory.

Trϵϵship, Wednesday, 14 November 2018 20:07 (five years ago) link

write in vote for King Edward Potatoes, which the original grower labeled the variety "Fellside Hero". Which sounds even worse tbh.
xxxp
Yeah I think this thread is as good as any to dis American Indie Rock royalty and Stephen Balbini's Shellac are a reet pile of rub imo!

the Stanley Kubrick of testicular torsion (bizarro gazzara), Wednesday, 14 November 2018 20:26 (five years ago) link

lol

wayne trotsky (Simon H.), Wednesday, 14 November 2018 20:28 (five years ago) link

the royals aren't even that good at being the royal family - Diana was proof you can do it with more agility and charisma and populism.

that said, my grandmother's MBE for her work with adults with learning difficulties is her proudest achievement, and I kinda like that the source of that recognition isn't tied to a political party and the baggage that would entail. The royals are obviously not "politically neutral" but they have no real power, if they tried anything they know it would be game over for them.

boxedjoy, Thursday, 15 November 2018 10:30 (five years ago) link

Diana was awful.

ROCK MUSIC (Tom D.), Thursday, 15 November 2018 10:37 (five years ago) link

no princess michael, no credibility

||||||||, Thursday, 15 November 2018 10:38 (five years ago) link

Diana was awful in the same way the royals are awful but she was better at doing what the royals do

boxedjoy, Thursday, 15 November 2018 10:44 (five years ago) link

afaict the Hanoverians have never been popular, apart from George VI, who was a late sub anyway.

ROCK MUSIC (Tom D.), Thursday, 15 November 2018 10:50 (five years ago) link

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

Danton Lok (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 17 November 2018 00:08 (five years ago) link

There was no option for "Kill 'em all and let God sort 'em out."

A is for (Aimless), Saturday, 17 November 2018 00:09 (five years ago) link

LOL no votes for the future King and his consort.

ROCK MUSIC (Tom D.), Saturday, 17 November 2018 00:10 (five years ago) link

... I mean, the one after Charles the Chump.

ROCK MUSIC (Tom D.), Saturday, 17 November 2018 00:10 (five years ago) link

Meghan was always going to win this, surprised at how close it was.
Well done you two weirdos voting for Andrew.

mfktz (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Saturday, 17 November 2018 00:12 (five years ago) link

I like how Liz's three sons have grown up to exemplify three distinct strands of overpriviledged dickholery - pompous windbag, sleazy moron and clueless imbecile.

mfktz (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Saturday, 17 November 2018 00:17 (five years ago) link

that there was no option for: 'drag this lot into a dingy cellar for summary execution by machine gun fire' was the major failing of this poll.

calzino, Saturday, 17 November 2018 00:34 (five years ago) link

i didn't vote but charles seems less bad than lots of the others idk

the worst one is zara phillips for winning SPOTY that one time

imago, Saturday, 17 November 2018 00:48 (five years ago) link

so you missed that charming interaction where Charles answered "I don't think so" when an Asian woman from Manchester replied that she was from Manchester. Heydrich was probably less bad than Himmler because he was part-Jewish and could play the violin etc...

calzino, Saturday, 17 November 2018 00:57 (five years ago) link

After being introduced to the prince, she says he asked where she was from. When she replied "Manchester", he reportedly quipped "Well, you don't look like it", before laughing and walking away.

that was it.

calzino, Saturday, 17 November 2018 01:12 (five years ago) link

his shortbread is quite tasty though

that's not what his servant called it.

calzino, Saturday, 17 November 2018 01:21 (five years ago) link

Charles is one of the worst tbh.

ROCK MUSIC (Tom D.), Saturday, 17 November 2018 08:04 (five years ago) link

the black spider memos, homeopathy, carbumcles, poundbury... charles is a grade 'a' listed twat.

have these people done anything bad enough to warrant wishing death on them?

they are royals

they don't have any power.

tell that to Gough Whitlam and please never post in any politics thread again

Bing The Mighty Seat (sic), Saturday, 17 November 2018 08:40 (five years ago) link

I do find something kind of admirable about Princess Anne's palpable contempt for the general public, and her disinclination to make any attempt to disguise this.
