i mean maybe i'm wrong but it sounds like she's making fun of people who have tried talking to her at gigs

This feels like a very surface-level interpretation that doesn't even make much sense when you take the whole song into account.

she's kinda rude ime

Sort of feels like the sort of comment that justifies the lyrics in the first place. Isn't the whole point of the record about the problems of maintaining a club centred career/lifestyle while also battling depression and mental health issues? I'm sure that looking rude to random people is an unavoidable part of that.

(It also works if you look at it as an electroclash album 15 years too late!).

as of right now I prefer the instrumental version and I feel kind of bad about it.

tbf (to me) we were introduced by mutual friends, and it was ages ago. imo it's fine to be rude as a touring musician, but making a song about being rude to your fans is weird. i've never got all the way through 'Your Biggest Fan' so if the rest of the lyrics are about battling depression and mental health mea culpa but the first few lines sound like she's making fun of people who come up to her and awkwardly say 'hey good set' and try to make small talk

Yeah she comes off as petulant and self centered in that song. I don’t really see any 2nd degree in it

My impression instantly upon hearing the opening track (having read nothing about it prior) was that it's about mansplainers or those who question her ability and place in the world of dance music

So now we've established you're tutting and harrumphing about a record you haven't actually listened to, let's look at the lyrics properly. It's pretty obvious the song isn't "about being rude to your fans" - or at least not JUST about that:

What is it about you?
Why are you so strange?

I love your music
Wait, do you play in a band?
Yeah, I-I totally saw you
You kind of remind me of um, you know that umm, umm
Umm, umm ueehhh ueeEH EEEHH [coughs]

Oh what's wrong with you? ([?])
Are you annoyed?
(Oh my god
What are we gonna do?
Where are we gonna go?
[?])

Hey, are you doing a DJ set tonight? ([?])
Oh, I see (No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no)
[?] ([?])

Man, I think she's faking her accent ([?])
I mean, nobody talks like that

(If living life the right way means keeping some sort of control over your emotions, I'm out. Oh yeah. Marie Davidson, what a bitch)

So, frankly, is this album about taking risks?
(She doesn't even know what she wants)
([?])

Oh hi, what's up? (Oh, that guy is actually gay)
I'm sorry I missed your set, I heard it was amazing ( I think she's [?])

Do you have drugs?
Can I help you roll your cables? ([?])

Do you know what's happening? ([?])
Are you coming?
Who are you anyways?
Please come with me, please please come we're going nowhere
([?])

'Cause she's fucked ([?] you're living the dream)

Do you really need to carry around all that gear with you?
My god! (Can you hear my heart beating? Nah, nah, nah)

Are you insane? (Oh, can you hear my ego talking?)
Does that bother you? ([?])
[?] ([?])

Who are you? Mm? Tell me
'Cause I wanna know
Who the fuck are you?

(If you see me in the morning
And it seems like I'm about to cry
It probably means that I've lost it
It's not easy to stay sober
It's not easy to stay sober
No it's not
Don't judge me for my mistakes
No words could explain
How deep is the pain)

The idea that there's no second level or that it's just about taking the piss out of people who talk to you at gigs only makes sense if:

- The bits in bold don't exist
- The whispered interior monologue parts in brackets don't exist
- The people who are talking to her are just nice people who are awkwardly making conversation at gigs (as opposed to people who are being condescending, patronising, creepy, being misogynistic behind her back etc etc)
- The song isn't at least in part about the difficulty of separating those people from the people who are just being a bit awkward, especially when going through periods of bad mental health
- Marie (or the Marie in the song) isn't fully aware that she doesn't exactly come across as a nice person in the song
- There aren't reasons for that that are right there in the lyrics

Sorry about the question marks, blame Genius.

still think this part is bad lyrics

I love your music
Wait, do you play in a band?
Yeah, I-I totally saw you

Umm, umm ueehhh ueeEH EEEHH

Kinda o_0 at some of the assertions being made above the latest revive? Yeeaaahhhh... the comments definitely prove the need for the song (and I'm not really surprised)

Enjoying the new single. Excited for the next turn.

turns out i prefer the vocal version of WCW, and the Soulwax remix of 'Work It', is bloody brilliant.
so, yeah, i am really looking forward to the new album.
