Trump eyeing executive order to end citizenship for children born in U.S. to noncitizens

(•̪●) (carne asada), Tuesday, 30 October 2018 12:20 (five years ago) link

I guess it makes sense that a piece of shit is composed of shit all the way down to its very core, but it's still just a little flabbergasting to see layer after layer after layer of shit revealed with seemingly no end.

Backdate that Executive Order to cover noncitizens born from 1606 onwards tbh

Another case where he says something that he has no intent of doing because his followers are so stupid that they'll misremember that he actually did it later.

fuck the NRA (Neanderthal), Tuesday, 30 October 2018 12:30 (five years ago) link

He can’t actually revoke that, since it’s constitutional, right?

suzy, Tuesday, 30 October 2018 12:31 (five years ago) link

Right. He claims he can get around thst via EO but...he's wrong.

fuck the NRA (Neanderthal), Tuesday, 30 October 2018 12:31 (five years ago) link

Pure electioneering nonsense that will have no effect except on clicks.

total transparent attempt to whoop up the fucking idiot followers of his but it's still infuriating nonetheless

(•̪●) (carne asada), Tuesday, 30 October 2018 12:44 (five years ago) link

if the GOP wins the House and enough state legislatures, they could propose it as a constitutional amendment

fred-a van vleet (voodoo chili), Tuesday, 30 October 2018 12:50 (five years ago) link

can't do it by executive order, but it doesn't mean he can't try. not sure how even a corrupt supreme court could overturn the language in the constitution or the 14th (it's not vague), but anything is possible in kavanaugh kountry

fred-a van vleet (voodoo chili), Tuesday, 30 October 2018 12:51 (five years ago) link

When will you media types lean to ignore Trump's nonsense and stick to the major issues at hand. You don't have to take the bait every time.

I guess it's that thing where people are now killing or attempting to kill people on the explicit basis of Trump's nonsense that makes it a little hard to ignore altogether.

a butt, at which the shaft of ridicule is daily glanced (Old Lunch), Tuesday, 30 October 2018 12:58 (five years ago) link

Also, bullshit on the NYT for publishing whether it's "unclear" he can override the Fourteenth Amendment. No. It's not unclear. It's perfectly clear.

You like queer? I like queer. Still like queer. (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 30 October 2018 13:00 (five years ago) link

As in all things, we have to consider all sides of the issue, both factual and imaginary.

a butt, at which the shaft of ridicule is daily glanced (Old Lunch), Tuesday, 30 October 2018 13:03 (five years ago) link

It was also perfectly clear in the 1860s what the Fourteenth Amendment would encompass – its opponent voted against it precisely because they thought their whiteness was endangered!

He does the EO, it gets stayed under legal challenge, it goes to the supreme court, they uphold it, easy peasy.

this might make his adherents salivate but it probably just energizes his opposition even more.

FWIW this would strip my wife of citizenship. at this point I'm thinking fine, deport her to Argentina, we'll all go down there. the USA can go screw.

it doesn't work that way

and we should stop stoking the anxieties of posters.

Ok, fair enough, sorry for stoking anxiety. My prediction isn't really worth shit anyway so i'll shut the fuck up

All right! A new season! (Bananaman Begins), Tuesday, 30 October 2018 13:14 (five years ago) link

Yeah, as posted somewhere else, the best response to his bullshit but particularly his most fantastical bullshit is "OK, see you in court, now back to the election next week. BTW, the GOP wants to cut insurance for those with pre-existing conditions." In fact, it pisses me off that each of his bullshit arena shows gets its own story. Who the fuck cares? Let me know when he dies on the toilet, that will be newsworthy.

How *will* his death be covered?

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 30 October 2018 13:27 (five years ago) link

With lots and lots of urine, one would imagine.

a butt, at which the shaft of ridicule is daily glanced (Old Lunch), Tuesday, 30 October 2018 13:32 (five years ago) link

That's for sure. They'll have to bury him in a rubber casket.

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 30 October 2018 13:34 (five years ago) link

someone will accurately point out that america is a better place thanks to his death, and the civility police will get them fired

wayne trotsky (Simon H.), Tuesday, 30 October 2018 13:44 (five years ago) link

I'm trying hard to change that.

a butt, at which the shaft of ridicule is daily glanced (Old Lunch), Tuesday, 30 October 2018 13:46 (five years ago) link

I was trying to think the other day: looking at the situation as objectively and as free of partisan prejudice as possible, has there been any single measurable, quantifiable improvement to the country under the Trump administration? And I don't mean any of the things that would likely have happened/continued in the short term if even a Scottish terrier or a stepladder had won the election (eg the economy). Is there anything? At all?

a butt, at which the shaft of ridicule is daily glanced (Old Lunch), Tuesday, 30 October 2018 13:51 (five years ago) link

Like I think it would've been easy for even the most hapless bumblefuck to fall ass backwards into some kind of positive change (assuming the hapless bumblefuck in question didn't also seethe with hatred for the human race).

a butt, at which the shaft of ridicule is daily glanced (Old Lunch), Tuesday, 30 October 2018 13:53 (five years ago) link

He can’t overturn a constitutional amendment with an executive order. This is idiotic.

Arguably stumbled into improving S/N Korean relations. xp

I dont think our relationship with north korea is actually improved. It seems like there are big risks for misunderstandings on the horizon

Trϵϵship, Tuesday, 30 October 2018 13:59 (five years ago) link

only improvement I can think of is that he's allowed media people to break the taboo on publicly calling bog standard GOP positions monstrous and racist

President Keyes, Tuesday, 30 October 2018 14:07 (five years ago) link

Now if only they'd occasionally put that into practice in lieu of hungrily rimming the presidential o-ring.

I suppose one unintentional positive of Trump's tenure to the world at large will be the deemphasis of America's influence on the world at large.

a butt, at which the shaft of ridicule is daily glanced (Old Lunch), Tuesday, 30 October 2018 14:22 (five years ago) link

Yep.

Is the replacement of that influence with the increasing influence of China and Russia going to be any better? That's not a rhetorical question, I really don't know.

Fedora Dostoyevsky (man alive), Tuesday, 30 October 2018 14:38 (five years ago) link

Russia's influence seems primarily malicious. They are not a big enough power to do much more than just muddy things up. At least not right now. China ... don't know what to think about them.
