Dems lose, Trump is elected again. In 6 years Dems get the White House again and fail to do anything meaningful. There is no end. Voting won’t save us now. Everyone vote, but it’s not going to make a difference.

Steve King is creepy af

unzensuriert: That is almost the answer to a question I wanted to ask you about your position on abortion: is there any connection between the UN replacement migration – the “Global Compact on Migration“ for example, that will be ratified in December – and “Planned Parenthood”?

Steve King: It is all interconnected. In the US, we have almost a million abortions a year, babies who would be raised by American parents. Then we bring in 1,2 million legal immigrants a year and add another 600,000 or so illegal immigrants. The US subtracts from its population a million of our babies in the form of abortion. We add to our population approximately 1,8 million of “somebody else’s babies” who are raised in another culture before they get to us. We are replacing our American culture 2 to 1 every year. In addition, only between 7% & 11% of the 1,2 million and zero% of the 600,000 illegals are based on merit. We have no say about the qualifications of approximately 1,7 million legal and illegal immigrants each year. We don’t even ask the question, “What can you do for our country?” I see some similar issues going on here in Europe.

Unzensuriert: That's what we call the “Great Replacement”.

Steve King: Great replacement, yes. These people walking into Europe by ethnic migration, 80% are young men. They are somebody else's babies. They have been already raised in the culture of another country. They are not in the cradle anymore. And I would argue: you could take any baby out of the cradle and put it to the bosom of a mother and a father in another country and they will grow up as part of the culture of the father and the mother. If you don't do that, you will have to use great effort to assimilate. And if migrants reject the host culture, I know that is really bad in Europe, but it's bad enough in the US, you get these silos of ethnicity, where you can drive by in your Mercedes and say, “Oh look, how multicultural I am,” but that is wrong, it is just a mosaic. I have said that diversity is not a strength. The Left just repeats it again and again, but it is mindless. What does this diversity bring that we don't already have? Mexican food, Chinese food, those things, well, that's fine, but what does it bring that we don't have that is worth the price? We have a lot of diversity within the US already.

i mean, this is who iowans want. he's been re-elected every 2 years since 2002. since 2012 he's represented the 4th district, which only covers a quarter of iowa, no big deal:

https://i.imgur.com/Y2b0CiU.png

just like montanans want gianforte to represent them. he bodyslammed a reporter from the guardian, then they elected him. when all this is over there will probably be revisionism about how the media and politicians pulled the wool over eyes of the good people of america, but actually there are just tons of racist dumbass scumbags in this country and there have been from the very beginning

Karl Malone, Saturday, 27 October 2018 20:39 (five years ago) link

when all this is over there will probably be revisionism about how the media and politicians pulled the wool over eyes of the good people of america

and just to be clear, i was definitely guilty of this line of reasoning, for a long time. i often thought of "regular" people as victims of political forces, of manipulative media sources like rush limbaugh and fox. those political and media actors are still terrible, of course, but now i see them as forces which originate and are enabled by the wretched heart of so many fucking assholes in this country

This is kind of funny and not really topical, but this is ILX... A few year ago I rented an airbnb from Steve King's current opponent (not in Iowa btw) and he gave us the best review ever... which was like "The house is exactly like when I left it, are you sure you guys stayed here?"

flappy bird, Saturday, 27 October 2018 21:38 (five years ago) link

he's trying to say there are no places where diversity is real, that instead there are only places where individual ethnic groups collide against each other with hard borders and no interaction, like a patchwork quilt or mosaic.

Karl Malone, Saturday, 27 October 2018 21:40 (five years ago) link

this line of thinking is why when he tries to think of examples of "diversity" a few sentences later, all he can come up with is "Mexican food, Chinese food, those things"

Karl Malone, Saturday, 27 October 2018 21:41 (five years ago) link

Teacher on one fo the courses I'm on was explaining the difference between multicultural and intercultural last week. Assume the latter is reasonably widespread.

In the evening, after the representatives returned to the Ritz, King asked a diplomat to arrange for a “Chinese masseuse” to be sent to his room, two U.S. officials said. One official with connections in Chinese circles was even asked to make inquiries about how to procure one, but declined.

So the synagogue shooter directly cited the “Soros sent the caravan to bring terrorists into this country” theory that the fucking president spread over Twitter. This is 100% on Trump.

i just got into a conversation with a friend of a friend on FB and she didn't even understand the motivations behind this shooting. She kept claiming it was because the shooter "hated Jews and Hated Trump." I said it was about HIAS and the caravan. She went off about how it's totally feasible terrorists could come over in this caravan. I said, "do you even understand what this shooting was about?" She clearly didn't; didn't know what HIAS was; didn't understand why any jewish organization would be helping the caravan; it was depressing. God knows where she gets her news. Curious if FOX is saying a single thing about HIAS and the caravan involvement in the shooting.

I thought I understood what hatred for a human being was before, but it turns out that I really didn't. It's so deep and consuming and multifaceted, and it's sometimes triggered by the simplest things. Like for example an umbrella carelessly left outside an airplane door. Such an utterly contemptible person, of no worth whatsoever and a complete burden on everyone.

probably b/c this hit so close to home my ability to sustain sarcasm, or even to countenance it, has been wiped away the last 24 hours. even the usual left-wing efforts to snarkily observe right-wing hypocrisies, which i've partaken in my life, have just curdled for me.

For the sake of our sanity, let me offer advice: the news cycles of the last four days have dwelt obsessively with WHAT WILL TRUMP SAY NOW OMIGOD, therefore stop focusing on Trump and focus on the rotting garbage of neo-Confederates called the Grand Old Party.

As someone on Twitter pointed out, the logical endpoint of the president's statements is that it's time to give antifa guns.

this is good advice, but the downside is that we might miss the headline when Trump is pulverized when he walks into the running engine of Air Force One.

affects breves telnet (Gummy Gummy), Sunday, 28 October 2018 17:42 (five years ago) link

The logical endpoint is civil war, but no one's going to *give* antifa guns. A fair fight isn't the plan. And there will be nothing sexy about that civil war.

I know someone who used to work in a photo lab who was taken off her machine one day because the accident investigators from Newark Airport had sent in photos of what happened when a runway crew member got distracted, backed up too far, and was sucked into a jet engine. Apparently it was as if someone had hurled several buckets of red paint into a high-speed fan, and the manager decided to process the images himself rather than make any of his employees do it.
