It will be an amalgam of sitcoms but Full House is what it makes me think of, esp because of The Horse's house (almost the same as the FH one), the font used for the sitcom title etc.

Btw I've only recently started watching this show but am thoroughly hooked. At the end of season two now. Spoilers for some reason don't really bother me with this show?

Also I had the exact same reaction of cringe that Treesh had after watching 'Escape from LA'. That was nigh on unbearable.

Oh, mand, if that one made you two uncomfortable you may want to keep booze at hand for future episodes.

I call my spouse Mr PeanutButter sometimes so I was kind of enthralled when he became Mr Chocolate Hazelnut Spread.

episode 2 of s4 is just as good imo

Yeah, both from the same writer too.

I've burned through four seasons at high speed and need to take it easier, now that season 5 is the only thing that's left.

seven months pass...

really hoping they can wrap this up somehow in the new season, S5 felt off although there were some great moments ("The Amelia Earhart Story" and "Free Churros" were both pretty much perfect, I'm sure I'm forgetting some other episodes)

I don't remember anything about it except for the funeral episode.

o yeah the Halloween one is pretty great as well

INT: SUB, the one where the therapists use barely disguised versions of the cast to describe their clients was great.

I was actually quite impressed with the Bojack/Gina abuse plot, even if it was a bit telegraphed and Todd's sex robot was really funny.

But I can see where you're coming from though - this was really a season about the cast becoming older and more responsible (even if in Mr Peanutbutter's case this means him being less responsible). Diane's trip to Vietnam was kind of throwaway and I didn't care for the sexy axolotls much at all.

INT: SUB and the Mr Peanutbutter episode were great, maybe the funeral episode too, the rest wasn't so great

imago, Tuesday, 25 June 2019 15:28 (four years ago) link

i thought it was a step down from previous seasons (each was better than the last), but not a drastic step down. it would serve them better to focus more on the characters than comment on current events--i feel like that balance was a little out-of-whack this season.

xp you forgot the adoption one ("Amelia Earhart") which I at least think is a series high point

Ambient Police (sleeve), Tuesday, 25 June 2019 15:37 (four years ago) link

Googled on when to expect season 6, seems it will be somewhere between July and September?

The sixth season will certainly serve up some more celebrity guest appearances, too, with Lisa Kudrow, Stanley Tucci, Jessica Biel, Sharon Horgan, Kristen Bell, Paul McCartney, Daniel Radcliffe and Ricky Gervais having all previously made appearances in the world of Bojack.

Not to keen on some of these corrupting this beautiful series ffs (looking at you Gervais)

David Sedaris and Lisa Kudrow were good although I don’t know if David Sedaris counts as a celebrity guest appearance.

Is BH the Everywhere At The End Of Time of TV shows

imago, Friday, 25 October 2019 19:32 (four years ago) link

^^ YES goddamnit ;_;

Just seen the second episode. Re-lent-less. The pace, the sound, the rhythm. It have me a heart-attack.

Still enough laughs but the realness just cuts through it all and shatters my heart to a million pieces. Fuck.

Le Bateau Ivre, Friday, 25 October 2019 19:43 (four years ago) link

EATEOT is potentially a really good reference point. Everyone is full of false memories and personalities and it's starting to unravel with some actual real memories creeping through that add to the plot for the observer but not the protagonist.

I thought we'd finally got the story of the make-up artist - which I think is still going to come - but it was just as another enabler.

I didn't mean not many laughs in a bad way, but the count feels slightly down. Some nice long Princess Caroline lists in ep 2.

Prediction: Bojack is going to find the girl from the school party in ep 1 once he's properly sober because he's genuinely sorry about how he treated her.

So, your CV says you're a (checks notes) DJ and stand-up comedian (aldo), Friday, 25 October 2019 19:57 (four years ago) link

I don't want to spoil anything, but false memories is def right. It feels like a cop out for BJ to attribute a lot of his addictions to how it's been portrayed. A five/six/seven/whatever year old doesn't grab for the vodka bottle to snuggle up with his mum right after. And yet. The show is commenting on and judging itself, it feels, and this makes it so strong.

I don't know for the life of me how BJ won't end up dead. But that's probably one of life's little mysteries. Life isn't always gracious; it's not a computer game, it doesn't kill you off when that would be the preferable thing. Lost souls escacpe through the cracks all the time. Question is, where do they end up?

Le Bateau Ivre, Friday, 25 October 2019 20:04 (four years ago) link

I didn't get where the showbiz reporter plot was going until... and it looks like Hollyhock will end up there too.

The makeup woman plot got resolved in an unexpected but logical way. The return of several recurring characters (who I won't mention for spoilery reasons) feels superfluous but I'm sure there's a reason for it.

Todd-centric ep most unToddly but great. Mister Peanutbutter MVP in the second half of the first half. I think the scene in the TV museum is going to be a turning point that'll play hard in the finale - especially the recurring line in it.

But the end scene... I don't think my heart will be able to take January.

SPOILERS

I didn't get the reporter plot either until it felt like 'why didn't I see this coming'. Feels like everything is being set up properly for one momentous, agonizing day of reckoning. I expect sadness more than catharsis tbh, or probably that unique Bojack mix of both.

Not sure where the female superhero movie subplot is going?

Le Bateau Ivre, Saturday, 26 October 2019 19:58 (four years ago) link

I GUESS WE'RE WELL INTO SPOILER TERRITORY NOW

I'm struggling to see what catharsis will come from the day of reckoning, but I'm open minded. The optimist in me will spend the next 3 months hoping the final scene is about someone else and it's just a coincidence, but we know that's not going to happen.

I think the superhero movie is just to get Kelsey Jannings back into the main plot for the final episodes (although I have no idea why). The same goes for Character Actress Margo Martindale and Gina Cazador (whose story I thought was over).

Having trouble dealing but it occurred to me Diane = Laura, Princess Caroline = Ceirwen, THERE IS NO FUCKEN TODD IN MY LIFE HELP but Diane/Laura is what I cling to holy shit this show

as much gravitas as a cartoon horse show may not entail, I still hope they stick the landing because there are some directions "guy on the upswing who finally has made his peace with the world only to have his worst moment become public" is going to be some awkward watching

mh, Thursday, 31 October 2019 14:34 (four years ago) link

so far this is the best season of the show imo
