Beto isnt polling worse than trump was before the election. Maybe he is but I am not a numbers guy. I still believe.

Trϵϵship, Wednesday, 17 October 2018 22:41 (five years ago) link

Beto becomes a bad pun in certain hands , particularly if you miss spell it.

Is that where the idea came from?

Doh I'm republican don't know the difference between an o or an a

Stevolende, Wednesday, 17 October 2018 22:42 (five years ago) link

xp you mean Rosen? I hope Jackie Rosen beats Dean Heller and I hope Kyrsten Sinema beats Martha McSally , but not so sure about either anymore

Dan S, Wednesday, 17 October 2018 22:43 (five years ago) link

it would also be really nice if Phil Bredesen beat Marsha Blackburn

Dan S, Wednesday, 17 October 2018 22:44 (five years ago) link

The beta/alpha/cuck stuff is the most disgusting discourse i’ve ever seen.

Trϵϵship, Wednesday, 17 October 2018 22:45 (five years ago) link

ever?

wait a few days

princess of hell (BradNelson), Wednesday, 17 October 2018 22:51 (five years ago) link

ah right sorry I meant Rosen.

Sinema is polling ahead of McSally last time I checked.

Bredesen is behind though.

xp

Οὖτις, Wednesday, 17 October 2018 22:51 (five years ago) link

Heller's barely ahead of Rosen. swap out Heller for Sinema in my original post

Οὖτις, Wednesday, 17 October 2018 22:52 (five years ago) link

I know it's not that likely but I'm still hoping for a wave that sweeps Sinema, Rosen, Bredesen and O'Rourke into office and that holds the seats occupied by Heitkamp, McCaskill, Donnelly, Manchin and Nelson

Dan S, Wednesday, 17 October 2018 23:02 (five years ago) link

I’m just bracing for the GOP to hold the House by one seat, no way I’m letting my hopes get higher.

JoeStork, Wednesday, 17 October 2018 23:05 (five years ago) link

that doesn't look very likely

Οὖτις, Wednesday, 17 October 2018 23:06 (five years ago) link

they are being massively outspent by the Dems

Οὖτις, Wednesday, 17 October 2018 23:07 (five years ago) link

I feel certain the house is a done deal. Dems may pick up one in the Senate or not. Beto winning would be a miracle, but I'm optimistic he'll push some close down ballot races over the top.

fuck the NRA (Neanderthal), Thursday, 18 October 2018 01:44 (five years ago) link

Yeah, there is still a statistical chance dems won't win the house, but its lower than Trump's odds of beating Hillary. And I think momentum is very much on the Democrats side.

Mario Meatwagon (Moodles), Thursday, 18 October 2018 01:54 (five years ago) link

Beto basically needs to mobilize a huge # of voters who either haven't voted before and/or haven't been been reached by the national pollsters (read: Millennials) and hope that cancels out any GOP galvanization.

Mario Meatwagon (Moodles), Thursday, 18 October 2018 01:55 (five years ago) link

Beto needs a significant change in the direction of his race to have any kind of real chance.

Mario Meatwagon (Moodles), Thursday, 18 October 2018 01:57 (five years ago) link

It really doesn't look good for him

Mario Meatwagon (Moodles), Thursday, 18 October 2018 01:58 (five years ago) link

Admittedly I'm in Austin, but there's definitely an energy around his campaign that I've never seen here before.

ryan, Thursday, 18 October 2018 02:00 (five years ago) link

i don't think polls can tell you who is actually gonna show up. cruz is relying on people being afraid of liberals, socialists, and illegal aliens. that was his message in the debates -- a negative one, against beto. he knows that he himself is not an attractive character, which seems like a weakness.

Trϵϵship, Thursday, 18 October 2018 02:15 (five years ago) link

there are such things as upset victories. they do happen. it's probably not good for me, personally, to count on too many of them happening all at once, or any of them really. but i've been wanting to skip ahead to november 2018 ever since november 2016 and i'm feeling that anxiety now more than ever.

The NYT's political reporting continues to impress me:

Mr. Gillum’s admirers see in him a hybrid of Bernie Sanders and Barack Obama — an authentic progressive who supports higher corporate taxes and greater gun control, calls for the impeachment of President Trump and Medicare-for-all, and can inspire young and minority voters in a state that last elected a Democratic governor in 1994. And in recent days, he has been ubiquitous, in his city and on television, as he managed the fallout from Hurricane Michael, at one point commandeering a chain saw himself to help clear tree debris.

Yet an examination of Mr. Gillum’s record lays bare the central contradiction of his political life: Self-styled as an activist-minded populist, with a lunch-pail upbringing in south Miami-Dade County, he is also an avatar of the capital city he runs — a town powered by ambition, horse-trading and alliances with well-placed power players.

I am really annoyed that as notoriously and universally an unlikable dude as Ted Cruz is, that people not related to him by blood would vote for him en masse. We are so doomed.

Yerac, Thursday, 18 October 2018 15:08 (five years ago) link

Schumer isn't going to be a vote destroyer is he?
Keep hoping he's just going to be relegated to a point where he can do less harm.
& hope that news of this is going to get people incensed enough to try to change things.
NOt sure what tenure of a circuit court judge is.

I am really annoyed that as notoriously and universally an unlikable dude as Ted Cruz is, that people not related to him by blood would vote for him en masse.

I think it might make Republicans happier to vote for someone like Cruz, because since they're voting Republican to affirm their self-image as loyal Republicans, him being a repellent shitbag just lets them feel prouder that they still turned up and supported the party.
