― nxd, Monday, 19 November 2018 10:54 (five years ago) link
I still don't understand it. Why are all the good teams playing each other, and why is there a sort of numpty section set aside for Scotland etc?
― ROCK MUSIC (Tom D.), Monday, 19 November 2018 10:58 (five years ago) link
That's how it is with leagues. The best English teams are in Premier League as well :)
― Frederik B, Monday, 19 November 2018 11:46 (five years ago) link
So there's actually two leagues operating here and that explains the relegation... uh.
― ROCK MUSIC (Tom D.), Monday, 19 November 2018 11:56 (five years ago) link
Yeah, there's four tiers. The Better Than Denmark, The Just as Good as Denmark, The Worse Than Denmark, and the A Lot Worse Than Denmark. Or at least that's how I understand it.
― Frederik B, Monday, 19 November 2018 12:08 (five years ago) link
The concept works well at the lower levels, I think. Kosovo have battered all the teams in their division and get moved up to play better ones next time, for example.
I can’t think of many pure friendlies wrt England more memorable than the Spain and Croatia games recently.

Great idea of McLeish's to put Forrest on the bench for the first game against Israel. I'm giving McLeish absolutely no credit for any of this because the team that he's played for the last two games was forced on him through injuries and withdrawals, it picked itself. Left to his own devices he'd have undoubtedly picked a team of numpties and hod carriers, making sure he could make do with as few Celtic players as possible.

I know he has a reputation for negative, conservative football but do ye have anyone who could score a goal under any manager these days? It looks too early for Obafemi and idk who else there is.

so reading and watching examples of this kind of play, it looks like this is an attacker (mbappe) gaining an advantage due to the ball deflecting off an opponent (garcia):
gaining an advantage by playing the ball or interfering with an opponent when it has:* rebounded or been deflected off the goalpost, crossbar, match official or an opponent* been deliberately saved by any opponent
regardless whether it deflected off garcia, it would still be offside, because garcia wasn't deliberately playing the ball. and apparently, a lot of refs call this offside often.
however, it's not offside if the opponent (garcia) deliberately plays the ball:
A player in an offside position receiving the ball from an opponent who deliberately plays the ball, including by deliberate handball, is not considered to have gained an advantage, unless it was a deliberate save by any opponent.
so, the ref must've thought garcia deliberately played the ball. his slide was intended to play the ball, but he never reached it enough to intercept and instead it was deflected, which would make it an offside, in my view.
there should be a clause added in the IFAB that a deliberate play of the ball means the opponent has possession of the ball, so it's not merely the opponent's intention to play the ball, and that way all deflections should be ruled offside

this is insane. i feel bad for spain

Agree with that take
Spurs got the benefit of similar vs lfc a few years back and it shouldve been tidied up after that
Mbappe is offside and interfering with play its a simple call
