Native activists should hold the left up to a higher standard, but I just don't think akm is right when he writes 'it depresses me to think of two years of relentless anti-Warren stuff coming from the Native left.'

why don't you think akm is right? because you think we won't in fact see that level of anti-Warren stuff from the Native left?

Work backwards from the assumption that Trump will win in 2020. What would you have done differently besides vote for the Dem, drive people to vote, hammer the message that 4 more years of Trump is completely unsustainable for the majority of americans and and everything that entails. I literally don't know how to get over peoples' obsession with abortion, though. I think it's really weird.

Yerac, Tuesday, 16 October 2018 15:04 (five years ago) link

It would make at least more sense to me if those same people seemed to give half a shit about the well-being of post-unborn children.

Neonatals need to learn how to pull themselves up by their bootiestraps, I guess.

I think trump will have a heart attack before 2020

I think he'll die on the shitter

Mario Meatwagon (Moodles), Tuesday, 16 October 2018 15:12 (five years ago) link

thought this was interesting:

voter participation has surged as the partisan divide has grown sharper.

The electorate is not turned off by the chasm, and contestation, between the parties. On the contrary, Hetherington finds, the polarized political parties have animated voters of all stripes—liberals, conservatives, and moderates. Growing civic engagement and voter turnouts are hallmarks of a vibrant democracy, not of a “broken” one.

Might hope that accentuated polarisation might stop the idea that the parties were 2 sides of the same coin and get rid of apathy over voting. Though there are still bastions of MOR that are too acquiescent to the other side and hopefully might be got rid of eventually.
Or on the other hand bipartisan endeavours being more attractive might be more conducive too.

Stevolende, Tuesday, 16 October 2018 15:12 (five years ago) link

Been idly thinking lately that we could use something like a bi-/nonpartisan domestic diplomatic corps. I mean ffs, we've figured out how to maintain some semblance of civil relations with other nations, surely the populace of the US isn't a completely lost cause.

“Federal Judge throws out Stormy Danials lawsuit versus Trump. Trump is entitled to full legal fees.” @FoxNews Great, now I can go after Horseface and her 3rd rate lawyer in the Great State of Texas. She will confirm the letter she signed! She knows nothing about me, a total con!

well you'd think she'd recognise he was a total con by now. I thought everybody else did.

& did Avenattti's case detract from the Kavanaugh protest? Seemed like it was poorly researched and structured from what I heard of it. Thought it was supposed to be above reproach because of the credibility of the victim.

Stevolende, Tuesday, 16 October 2018 15:30 (five years ago) link

Once again I find myself wondering whether my desire for increased unity in these divisive times is severely at odds with my desire to watch Donald Trump get dragged under a riding mower.

Well, judging by that Michael Lewis book which I'm currently reading, at least the events of the last couple of years seem to have disproved the old cliche that "no matter who you vote for, the government always gets in".

tell people what you're going to do for them instead of going with "Trump you're a con man" which everyone has made their mind up about already

The way to make my family sputter is to list all the shit that makes Trump like every other GOP shithead since Reagan; they hate thinking he's like everybody else except more bloated and stupid.

Don't tell Stormy that, at least not yet.

Ladies and Gentlemen, may I present your president. In addition to his...umm...shortcomings, he has demonstrated his incompetence, hatred of women and lack of self control on Twitter AGAIN! And perhaps a penchant for bestiality. Game on, Tiny. https://t.co/6DpDD5ELtj

Stormy should continue to go HAM on him, i just think anyone running against him directly should go the route of putting out their own message. everyone knows what Trump is, opposition candidates don't need to take him on personally.

omar little, Tuesday, 16 October 2018 15:56 (five years ago) link

yea agreed

I like having Avenatti around but I really don't need him to get involved with the Democrats in any official capacity

Graham also used the interview to make multiple dubious claims about what “this election” is really about, namely:

This election now is down to simple things: Are you for what they did to Kavanaugh? Are you for having your government run by a mob or are you for the rule of law?
>

Ha ha.

& they see themselves as pro Rule of Law & anti-mob?

am I missing something or did Trump just sorta admit he paid $130000 to fuck a horse-faced girl because she reminded him of his daughter

Mitch McConnell pretty much flat-out threatening to fuck with Medicare in order to make up for deficits caused by the last tax bill SEEMS like an incredibly idiotic thing to do three weeks before midterms, but what the fuck makes sense anymore? It certainly wouldn't be the most shocking thing ever for old people to re-up on a bunch of legislators who are desperate to cut their benefits. I guess nobody thinks it's gonna affect them personally until the moment it does.

evol j, Tuesday, 16 October 2018 16:33 (five years ago) link

I saw that McConnell move come in 2017 because that's what GOP leaders always do since Reagan: expect social service cuts to pay for their crap-ass tax cuts.

They can just tell the olds that Obama made 'em do it and everything will be cool. It's a cinch when your constituency has the reasoning ability of a gnat.

Extra Shprankles (Old Lunch), Tuesday, 16 October 2018 16:41 (five years ago) link

oh yeah, i think a lot of us did. I just don't understand running yer yap about it right before an election. then again, half of the GOP is out here acting like THEY'RE the ones committed to protecting pre-existing conditions in defiance of all known reality.

Democrats have raised almost 2/3 of the total money for the House (not counting candidates who lost in primaries). Despite the fact that the GOP holds the incumbency advantage. Never been anything like that before in our House fundraising data, which goes back to 1998. pic.twitter.com/18iRaPGQxJ

I've been watching a few old frontlines over the last week. One of which was the American porn one which was withdrawn after one of the porn firms they were depicting turned out to be doing graphically violent stuff.
But one of the firms featured to some degree was AT & T who were running a porn channel for a while as were GM.
programme was made in 2002 and reedited in 2004

Stevolende, Tuesday, 16 October 2018 18:07 (five years ago) link

"Game on, Tiny" would be a good November thread title.

In other news, final Beto-Cruz debate tonight.

XP That Frontline was good (saw it when it was new). Iirc, GM had that porn channel through Direct TV, which they owned at the time.

a 24 hour a day, free propaganda machine as effective as FOX News,

How many viewers does FN have? Isn't it around a million? Two? I think its all-consuming powerhouse rep is a delusion.

That's ignoring the fact they're in the top three publishers on fb. It's the clips, the soundbites getting pumped around on social media doing the real damage imo. And the audience is a hell of a lot bigger than a million or two there.

also, anything covered by fox news is then accepted wholesale and repeated in a ton of slightly different stories across the conservative media spectrum, until it finally is referenced in the reader letters section of readers digest, several years later
