I was just annoyed that the professor’s letter seemed like she was throwing the brunt of Native American suffering on Warren. A little unfair. Her people’s suffering is valid, but her response was over the top imo.

What was over the top about it?

Putting an entire’s people’s suffering on Warren.

He said captain, I said wot (FlopsyDuck), Monday, 15 October 2018 23:31 (five years ago) link

That’s what made me angry.

Come primaries if she is running, I am glad I won't have to hear people, primarily men, talk about how they can't possibly vote for Warren because they can't trust that she didn't lie about her heritage. It is what it is. So don't vote for her because you hate her voice and schoolmarmishness instead. I don't think most of us should give a shit what new derogatory slime Trump has to say about her.

Yerac, Monday, 15 October 2018 23:39 (five years ago) link

BTW did Trump ever make a peep about Eminem doing his parking garage monologues about him?

Yerac, Monday, 15 October 2018 23:42 (five years ago) link

Warren said she had Native American ancestry and the racist president said I’ll donate to charity if you prove it with a DNA test which she then does and we equate that with “Dem does dumb shit”

I love that Nerdstrom manages to bust out "you wish to change the Democratic Party yet you criticize Democrats... CURIOUS" within 12 hours of a Democrat doing some dumb shit

Putting an entire’s people’s suffering on Warren. That’s what made me angry.

Warren was being cute with the ambiguity of "Native American ancestry" in order to zing Trump, and naturally it's going to result in an eye-rolling press release from Kim TallBear, who is native herself and whose main research focus is race and science. Tribal membership, as a matter of self-determination, should be left up to them to define for themselves. And Warren should know better than to fuck around with public assertions about her blood quantum when the criteria for membership in the Cherokee Nation are readily available from the Cherokee Nation and do not include "the presence of genetic markers". Pleading ignorance about issues of DNA testing with respect to tribal membership is worse, because it just proves to Native Americans that once again you do not give a shit about them, it's all about white people fighting with each other. All Warren had to do was ask someone like Kim TallBear, who is easily reachable on Twitter, if this was a wise idea before going ahead with this obnoxious publicity stunt.

Calling her dumb is fair. Putting the suffering of an entire people on her is not fair.

Instead you'll have to hear them talk about how they can't possibly vote for Warren because she used her (minimal) Native American blood to get a job at Harvard.

Well, it is always something.

Yerac, Tuesday, 16 October 2018 00:27 (five years ago) link

I don’t think warren would be quick on her feet attacking Trump (if he wins the primaries). I rather have someone else.

He said captain, I said wot (FlopsyDuck), Tuesday, 16 October 2018 00:28 (five years ago) link

xpost Also, hasn't that been thoroughly debunked?

Yerac, Tuesday, 16 October 2018 00:29 (five years ago) link

Of course it's been debunked. By FAKE NEWS. Which means it's been rebunked.

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Tuesday, 16 October 2018 00:31 (five years ago) link

Calling her dumb is fair. Putting the suffering of an entire people on her is not fair.

"Warren contributes to the ongoing suffering of an entire people with her dumb stunt" is closer to the gist of Dr. TallBear's statement than "putting the suffering of an entire people on her". Your anger is not justified.

And Warren isn't dumb. She did a dumb thing, but she's done a lot more smart things.

the girl from spirea x (f. hazel), Tuesday, 16 October 2018 00:31 (five years ago) link

these arguments that this was a dumb thing to do because alex jones truthers will have more masturbatory material, they can sit there with their feelings, I really don't care. She's the one that would be most hurt and she obviously does not care either.

dudes voting for a bankrupt with a fake hairdo shouldn't purity moan about senator elizabeth warren's heritage

Agreed

He said captain, I said wot (FlopsyDuck), Tuesday, 16 October 2018 00:40 (five years ago) link

also, i wasn't referring to anything regarding the Cherokee Nation because I really don't know much about it.

On a lighter note, I have thoroughly traumatized my family enough for being Trump voters that they are supposedly no longer voting in any election.

haven't really paid attention to and can't speak to all of this shit today, but it seems like noise to me

Dan S, Tuesday, 16 October 2018 00:52 (five years ago) link

My immediate family, mom, dad, two brothers, two sisters in laws I only speak to my mom for the last two years.

Yerac, Tuesday, 16 October 2018 00:53 (five years ago) link

Basically because she is an immigrant, no education, military spouse so I give her leeway.

Yerac, Tuesday, 16 October 2018 00:54 (five years ago) link

So maybe we need a democratic candidate that can traumatize trump voters. I still think the best way to do this is throw out a bunch of verbal punches and counterattacks so as to send Hero Trump into a pathetic, little man corner. We need a Democrat that comes off strong and confident. Plus constantly using Trump’s words and actions against him always makes for a good 1-2 punch.

He said captain, I said wot (FlopsyDuck), Tuesday, 16 October 2018 00:58 (five years ago) link

Can't disagree with that. I think Kamala Harris or Kirsten Gillibrand could fill that role and I would vote for either of them in a second

Is it too crazy to say that a pestilential male force is in control of this country right now?

I think we need to elect a woman president as soon as possible

Dan S, Tuesday, 16 October 2018 01:49 (five years ago) link

Dave Brat mentioned Nancy Pelosi 21 times during his debate tonight with his Democratic opponent Abigail Spanberger.

The audience was laughing and groaning it got so noticeable.

Here's what mentioning Nancy Pelosi 21 times looks like: https://t.co/UIElZNg7zh pic.twitter.com/9stq6Sg8dg

One somewhat overlooked item tonight: Donald Trump.

Abigail Spanberger didn't mention Trump once.

For a midterm election that most people consider a referendum on Trump, it's pretty interesting that Democrats never mention the guy!https://t.co/UIElZNg7zh

yes, deciding to play trump's game & falling on her face spectacularly in the process is an own-goal, which is some dumb shit my man

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Tuesday, 16 October 2018 01:56 (five years ago) link

I think the time is ripe for a dem prez candidate of Warren's seeming decency (and I would definitely vastly prefer a woman to another dumb old white dude) but the fact remains that there's going to be some weird jiu jitsu involved in taking on an incumbent Trump. Like it's uncharted territory in many ways and there may not be a clear way forward, but there are certainly musts to avoid based on several years of observation and today's hubbub doesn't give me a huge amount of confidence that Warren sufficiently recognizes those musts. I want her to recognize them, though! Honestly!

Extra Shprankles (Old Lunch), Tuesday, 16 October 2018 01:57 (five years ago) link

"another dumb old white dude"-- seriously? this is such a tired schtick. i'm pulling for warren and, all things being even, i would prefer a female candidate because that's a barrier that needs to be broken, but this disingenuous self-flagellating nonsense gets under my skin

You do realize you sound like a political consultant, and it's October 2018. Remember Hilary Clinton's 2015 book tour, touted as her Listening Tour? It sure came up often in October 2016!

alfred, people are talking strategy as a coping mechanism. they can't do anything but dream of the day when trump is vanquished from their nightmares.

congrats on y'all turning into Chuck Todds without the family home in Kendall. I guess today's theme was more interesting than worrying about whether Trump has dishonored the great principle of American foreign policy post-WWII whereby we went to bed with dictators in exchange for anti-Communist support while they executed thousands of native Khashoggis.

I won’t actually be able to vote in 2020 but looking forward to voting in the 2022 midterms (Kamala Harris’s replacement because she’s vp, the repeal of prop 13, Kevin de Leon for LA mayor and about 8 bond issues)
