btw Chris Singleton on the radio called the Machado HR about 30 seconds in advance, incl that it'd be a changeup

Bee OK, Saturday, 13 October 2018 01:16 (five years ago) link

Sometimes you just gotta tip your hat, look yourself in the mirror, and say, "You know what? It is what it is. We didn't execute."

Andy K, Saturday, 13 October 2018 01:44 (five years ago) link

are you quoting Smoltz? sounds like him

a Mets fan who gave up on everything in the mid '80s (Dr Morbius), Saturday, 13 October 2018 01:45 (five years ago) link

Smoltz Megamix, yes.

Andy K, Saturday, 13 October 2018 01:46 (five years ago) link

The only other time that a catcher had an error, passed ball, and catcher's interference in the same postseason inning came exactly one year ago today in NLDS Gm 5 - The Nats' Matt Wieters had a passed ball and error on the same play, followed by CI. https://t.co/YvCQdZLvz4

frogbs, Saturday, 13 October 2018 02:51 (five years ago) link

I don’t think it’s a terrible idea. He’s looked lights out coming into this one.

Hader seems a bit shaken

F# A# (∞), Sunday, 21 October 2018 01:35 (five years ago) link

I think I would have let Crispin Glover hit--he's untouchable out there.

clemenza, Sunday, 21 October 2018 01:46 (five years ago) link

Didn't seem like that tough a decision--you've got to take him out. (Walking Yelich would have been crazy.)

I guess Jansen comes back out for the eighth and Kershaw pitches the ninth?

NoTimeBeforeTime, Sunday, 21 October 2018 02:44 (five years ago) link

Do i hear anti-twee sentiments in a baseball thread?

Van Horn Street, Sunday, 21 October 2018 02:51 (five years ago) link

Unless really necessary, I'd try to let Jansen finish up.

clemenza, Sunday, 21 October 2018 02:57 (five years ago) link

Did you guys know that Jansen used to be a catcher?

Van Horn Street, Sunday, 21 October 2018 02:57 (five years ago) link

lol Puig's pose when he got announced safe.

LET’S GO DODGERS

F# A# (∞), Sunday, 21 October 2018 03:27 (five years ago) link

He only throws in the low 90's, but this Kershaw kid might have a future as a closer in the bigs. This wasn't a save situation though, so we can't really be sure that he has that closer mentality until he pitches in a close game.

NoTimeBeforeTime, Sunday, 21 October 2018 03:28 (five years ago) link

Damn. Well, nice season anyway, Brewers.

Is this what I'm seeing in that clip?

(final score of G7 flashes on scoreboard)

Lakers fans: (indifference)

(shots of the final out and the Dodgers celebrating on the field)

Lakers fans: (a smattering of mild applause)

(shots of Magic Johnson clapping)

half of Lakers fans: Magic Johnson, f yeah!!! (rapturous applause)

other half of Lakers fans (turning to their friends): Wait, which movie was that guy in again?

NoTimeBeforeTime, Sunday, 21 October 2018 05:50 (five years ago) link

basketball fans are morons, esp in LA

a Mets fan who gave up on everything in the mid '80s (Dr Morbius), Sunday, 21 October 2018 08:54 (five years ago) link

Hard to say when in the final part of the game that was

But having been to a Lakers game, the crowd definitely gets into it once the game ends and the team has won

We got the usual inflatable thunder sticks and confetti came down and stuff

Laker fans are awesome and the vibe is dope

Morbs is just an angry old man

F# A# (∞), Sunday, 21 October 2018 10:21 (five years ago) link

The AB I keep thinking about was Aguilar in the 2nd. 3-2 and he swings at a high fastball that’s like a foot out of the zone. After that there was a long single and a deep fly, Aguilar certainly would have scored and the game would be tied, at least. You wonder if they would’ve played a little looser after that. Then you got the Puig HR which doesn’t happen if they can pull off a routine double play (Bellinger is pretty fast of course), or Taylor’s amazing run-saving catch that Joc almost certainly wouldn’t have made. Just a lotta weird variance in this game. Probably why we made it so far in the first place, of course. Oh well. Was a great year.

frogbs, Sunday, 21 October 2018 13:12 (five years ago) link

I think I would have let Crispin Glover hit--he's untouchable out there.
― clemenza, Saturday, October 20, 2018 9:46 PM

Was he done, or could he have gone another inning? He'd thrown 31 pitches.

clemenza, Sunday, 21 October 2018 13:30 (five years ago) link

Brewers only got one hit in 4.1 innings off the Dodger bullpen.
