i feel this. i actually canceled my trip--for a bunch of reasons but mainly because it didn't seem like i'd actually enjoy it. if you ever get the hankering for a really beautiful trip, may i recommend moab, utah. there are 12,000 foot mountains very close (like within 10 miles) but it's mainly about the high desert, colorado plateau, juniper and pinyon, navajo sandstone rock alcoves, etc.

the thing about living in the sticks though is you miss being around queer people. as disappointing as they can be.
