You don't need Splinter when one of our local boys read DeSantis' book:

Florida gubernatorial candidate Ron DeSantis' 2011 tome, Dreams From Our Founding Fathers, is terrible. It's a book-long screed from the then-Tea Party candidate, in which DeSantis screams at President Barack Obama for 286 pages, implies he is a closet Marxist, and at one point writes that Obama has "Muslim roots." The book sucks because it is an absolute slog. New Times combed through huge portions of DeSantis' repetitive, banal, witless, and crushingly pedestrian prose, and the project reads like a book report from a dying Confederate soldier trying to get a community college poli-sci degree.

How the F is he having another rally?

I think this is the second of five this week

They mean that people and TV cameras look at him, which is the only thing in the entire world that he actually cares about

My Gig: The Thin Beast (sic), Wednesday, 10 October 2018 04:04 (five years ago) link

...and right now he has the excuse that's helping GOP candidates in the midterms (remember his whole "throw the son of bitch out" thing with the NFL happened at a Luther Strange event).

these rallies will be helpful to the GOP because what the Trump base wants is to see more clips of Trump talking shit. that's what gets them to show up at the polls.

Not necessarily. We'll find out in less than four weeks.

circa1916, Wednesday, 10 October 2018 13:24 (five years ago) link

I ask only that he use these rallies to heartily endorse as many GOP candidates as possible, by name, explicitly and repeatedly, preferably coupled with unfounded slander against their opponents. This has been a winning strategy which he absolutely should sustain.

Dems could honestly learn a thing or two from Trump about campaigning. I wish more politicians from our side weren't afraid to call out the other side as being truly dangerous and destructive to civilization. Trump at least is good at whipping his minions into a frenzy about the looming socialist menace that is the Democrat party. obviously Fox News has been doing it too for years.

You'd think the party that believed in institutions would show less fear about denouncing the charlatans and grifters destroying those institutions.

Now, the Trump administration proposes to dramatically limit the right to demonstrate near the White House and on the National Mall, including in ways that would violate court orders that have stood for decades. The proposal would close 80 percent of the White House sidewalk, put new limits on spontaneous demonstrations, and open the door to charging fees for protesting.

Fee requirements could make mass protests like Martin Luther King Jr.’s historic 1963 March on Washington and its “I have a dream” speech too expensive to happen.

The public has until October 15 to comment on the plans, and on Monday, we submitted our formal written comment explaining why the planned changes are unconstitutional.

Charging a fee to protest. That is the most neo-American idea of all time.

new Politico-Morning Consult poll finds that voters say by 46 percent to 40 percent that the Senate was “wrong” to confirm Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court, but also that the battle over Kavanaugh is energizing Democratic voters more than Republican ones:

Following the GOP-led effort to push through his nomination, enthusiasm among Democratic voters has surged. More than 3 in 4 Democrats (77 percent) say they are “very motivated” to turn out and vote in the midterms — more than the 68 percent of Republicans who say they’re “very motivated.”

This is a spike of 10 points in Democratic enthusiasm from last month, when 67 percent of Democrats said they were very motivated. By contrast, according to the poll, last month Republican enthusiasm was roughly where it is now.

sure but it's also what gets democrats and independents to show up. trump's worst runs of polling have all been when trump is in the news.

𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Wednesday, 10 October 2018 16:33 (five years ago) link

the right was worked up while Kavanaugh was in limbo. now that he's been confirmed, there's no specific "cause" to fight for. The Dems still have the cause.

omar little, Wednesday, 10 October 2018 16:33 (five years ago) link

I hope that's true, but still worry about what, if any, enthusiasm differential there is. 77% very motivated doesn't seem all that different from 68%, considering all of the noise

https://www.rocketcitynow.com/news/politics/the-latest-mcconnell-warns-of-backfire-if-dems-harass-trump/1512482101

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is warning Democrats to think carefully about "presidential harassment" if they win the majority of the House.

The Kentucky Republican told The Associated Press in an interview Wednesday that Democratic threats to investigate President Donald Trump's finances and businesses would "help the president get re-elected" in 2020.

dunno if running on shielding the POTUS from criminal investigation is a winning strategy
