First listen and I agree the new HoF sounds more like old HoF which isn't a bad thing at all. It's got more weight to it and I think "man that's almost a Slayer riff" less often.

i know people revere HOF and they're a badass heavy band and i got lots of respect for Pike but more and more i just find their albums to be a chore to get through..

(I've seen a photo of him dressed as an SS officer and I know his name used to be Holocausto and obviously neither is a good look but is there some kind of screed where he nails his colours to the mast - some damning thing he's said that I'm not aware of? I mean, is he actually a card carrying racist or just a bit of spanner with poor judgement?) I've googled it and the first thing that comes up says he is because literally all black metal is racist, so that's not much help. I can't keep up with it all, tbh.

I auditioned the last track and it had a really weird psychoacoustic effect on me, and wondering if anyone else had the same reaction to this (or any other particular) piece of music?

I have some tinnitus, not terrible, but basically I carry my own noise floor wherever I go. Playing the song was like having my noise floor raised significantly - like someone had identified key frequencies that ring in my ear, and boosted them (and only them) a lot. Really viscerally unpleasant.

I listen to TONS of extremely noisy shit and never had this experience before.

(Stephin Merritt has suggested strongly that the Magnetic Fields album "Distortion" was mixed to tigger his hyperacusis, but not sure that's the same)

Wow, that is weird. Do you have the same effect with the other two tracks? I don't hear a lot of difference in the way they're mixed.

Meant to post this earlier - but Satan were pretty damn good in Chicago this past week. Doomsday Clock/Twenty Twenty Five one-two punch was sweet. I took a buddy who had never heard 'em before, who's not much of a metalhead, but is a huge Iron Maiden fan, and he loved 'em and bought Cruel Magic at the merch table. Was happy to bring them a new fan. Brian Ross was good fun, and his banter was often hilarious!

New Terrorizer is interesting.

It's basically a Sandoval blastbeat showcase like World Downfall but the music isn't that style, it's grind but not the punky kind.

Not sure how I feel yet but the Monstrosity boys do a good job. It's not like the 2nd or 3rd Terrorizer albs either

I liked those two Terrorizer albums that were basically Resistant Culture albums with Sandoval on drums. Checking out the new one now.

I absolutely loves their super-heavy psychedelic halucinations of what black metal could be on Ufonaut which came out in 2016 and am looking forward to exploring this one. First two songs do nothing to dissuade me from endorsing the new one!

Not sure if Akitsa is liked around here but the new one is great! Pure Filosefem in sound and attitude. Less punky, more metal than in the past.

A couple of listens in, the Kriegsmaschine record is awesome again - more or less the same as Enemy Of Man. They might as well have called it a Maciej Kowalski solo album because this thing is drums first everything else second. It recalls Death's Individual Thought Patterns, in that it's all led by these big mid-paced technical drum grooves and the guitars weave in and out around it all.

Also, this Akitsa is indeed great! I had no idea they were still going.

I'll have to check both of them out.
