dan_theman I think this message board is a safe place to post, it's anonymous if you want to be anonymous

Dan S, Sunday, 7 October 2018 02:13 (five years ago) link

ilx is safe enough, if all you want to do is post and be anonymous while doing so. But if you think you'll get any respect for "shooting the shit", you will find that such respect is not forthcoming. On the contrary.

This message board is filled with well-informed, smart, tasteful people. Most of whom are also abrasive jerks. I’ve been here for years and I rarely post.

Happy Thanksgiving

jmm, Sunday, 7 October 2018 04:58 (five years ago) link

DNC and GOP are the same party. No difference between the two, which is verifiable through hard facts.

The people who tell you otherwise, like Alfred, etc., here, are people who don't understand the gun that's to the back of their necks and don't appreciate the trigger that's going to be pulled on them.

dan_theman, Sunday, 7 October 2018 05:03 (five years ago) link

I'm the guy with the finger on the trigger to people like Alfred Soto whatever, so what the hell do I care. Blammo.

wow, nailed it

mookieproof, Sunday, 7 October 2018 05:05 (five years ago) link

I just find it funny morons like Alfred and El_tomboto support people who want to kill them. Morons.

You dudes don't want to hear the truth, because it makes you poop your pants, when you see actual facts confirm it over and over again. I'm disappearing into the shadows where I belong. Seeyah.

dan_theman, Sunday, 7 October 2018 05:07 (five years ago) link

it's not that we don't want to hear the truth, it's because we're afraid of it. because it's too close to what we love. whoa

Karl Malone, Sunday, 7 October 2018 05:09 (five years ago) link

b-b-b-but dan_theman promised he wasn't trolling!

A is for (Aimless), Sunday, 7 October 2018 05:09 (five years ago) link

Cool. Yeah, this is so dumb and trolly, but the whole “GOP and DEMS are just two puppets held up by the same man, maaaan” shit is still something I get from some hard left acquaintances and it’s so fucking useless considering the immediate reality of what’s happening right now and what options we have.

Yet, everything this banned guy was banned for has come true beyond expectations.

Is the consensus now that GOP will retain congress? That they calculated that the Kavanaugh case was a vote winner for them not a vote loser? if so that makes the extra weeks investigation an extra weeks time to get their voters riled up. the 'blue wave' seems a bit uncertain?

anvil, Sunday, 7 October 2018 05:59 (five years ago) link

i'm really not sure about the overall effect of the kavanaugh confirmation on the midterms. before it happened, it seemed like the democrats were sailing toward taking over the house, and possibly even the senate. in the midst of it, when a delayed vote until after the midterms seemed possible (kavanaugh dropping out and someone else being nominated but voted on until after elections), it seemed like that would really motivate republican voters to show up and alter the presumptions. but now, after kavanaugh has been confirmed, and what's left is a bunch of democratic voters that are fucking pissed? i think we'll need to wait a week or so and see how the momentum shifts.

Karl Malone, Sunday, 7 October 2018 06:03 (five years ago) link

Agreed, if its shifted a bunch recently it can shift a bunch again. I cant tell if this was part of plan or not, to keep this in news cycle seemed dumb at first, then smart, and now Ive no idea, maybe neither - but I could see the rationale behind it, especially if most of the seats up for re-election are D

anvil, Sunday, 7 October 2018 06:11 (five years ago) link

the kavanaugh confirmation is more brutal than most democratic voters realize, though. the benefit of gaining a democratic majority is to change/update the laws of the land. the republicans just landed control of the supreme court for the next decade or two, at least. i guess it's rude to talk about when they'll die, but of the conservative jsutices, clarence thomas is the oldest, and he's 70. alito is 68. it's going to be bullshit 5-4's for a very long time. and that means that even if something like medicare for all becomes the law of the land, it could very well be temporary. it's important to vote this november, duh, and it would be helpful to help check the power of literally the dumbest person in the entire world, donald trump, but if left-leaning voters knew how fucked we are, many of them wouldn't bother voting.

Chief Justice John Roberts has received more than a dozen judicial misconduct complaints against SCOTUS nom Brett Kavanaugh but not referred them for investigation. @CarolLeonnig @amarimow @thamburger https://t.co/eEVY30WkRa

from this morning's NYT story about the House races:

t might seem strange for Republicans to improve their standing even as Mr. Kavanaugh’s falls. It is even stranger since the Times/Siena polls provide zero evidence — truly, zero — to support the view that Republicans are now likelier to say they intend to vote than they were before the Kavanaugh hearing.

You like queer? I like queer. Still like queer. (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Sunday, 7 October 2018 11:26 (five years ago) link

yeah, there is no consensus on what the Kavanaugh confirmation will have on midterms. The immediate effect is that Senate polls have broken in favor of Republicans, however many House polls have actually broken in favor of Democrats since the initial Ford accusations broke.

There are competing theories, some that the Kavanaugh thing will galvanize the GOP base, others that now that he's confirmed, some of the excitement will die down as they won't feel like they have an open SCOTUS seat to worry about....whereas Democrats are furious now that he's officially confirmed.

In all likelihood we have at least 2 or 3 batshit scandals/controversies to go before midterms, and Kavanaugh will feel like it happened 3 years ago by the election

getting a wee bit tired of people sharing "DON'T VOTE ABSENTEE" memes though.

it's based on generalized information that isn't true, such as stamps being required (not so in Orange County). also in Florida, due to a judge's ruling in 2016, they have to let you cure a ballot that was not accepted due to mismatched signature, and you can check on the status of your ballot, and go early vote if for some reason it gets lost in the mail.

half my friends basically saying "YR VOTE WON'T COUNT"
