I don't find this one yawnsome at all, but I wasn't sure where else to put it, and I recently learned of its existence (Herb Ellis gave Larson guitar lessons in exchange for drawing this cover)

I looked at this like "That's a Gary Larson cover, isn't it?" and then I saw the signature at the bottom.

some great covers today. that BLT looks good

flappy bird, Tuesday, 27 November 2018 03:22 (five years ago) link

But the windmill isn't in a valley, it's on a hill. Why would you put a windmill in a valley? The album should be called Hill of the Windmill.

Or "Valley From Which You Can See the Windmill". Imagine if it was called Whirlpool of the Meerkats or Ocean of the Spiders. It wouldn't make sense. I'm sure there are whirlpools from which you can see meerkats but that doesn't narrow things down enough.

Otherwise every place on Earth would be called Location From Which You Can See the Moon, except for caves.

Ashley Pomeroy, Wednesday, 28 November 2018 19:44 (five years ago) link

I think the windmill rules over the valley with its metallic sails of doom, is the idea. Ocean of the Spiders would've been better for sure.

That Toe Fat cover used to freak me out in the record store when I was a kid. And they had a second album, what the hell is that stuff?

composed of atoms just as all posters have been (Dan Peterson), Tuesday, 15 January 2019 16:18 (five years ago) link

It's mostly the leavings from a roast chicken I think? I've looked at that second LP a few times but I had never even noticed the characters from the first LP (even the lamb!) before.

I think these Toe Fat records are too weird to be fully yawnsome. And the toes themselves are maybe not fat enough to be literal?

Tim, Tuesday, 15 January 2019 16:26 (five years ago) link

(Always a strange kind of pleasure to see them though)

Both designed by Hipgnosis.

Not literal though are they?

Never Turn Your Back On Virginia Woolf (Tom D.), Tuesday, 15 January 2019 16:42 (five years ago) link

kind of amazing how small they made the people in that second, equally disgusting one. they are very easily missed subtleties!

yeah I agree the first one isn't strictly literal, but it seemed to good/weird not to share
