the 1975

how are we feeling about the Pale Waves album?

i was not really sold on most of the pale waves singles but the album is pretty solid. they have a tendency to write the same sort of hooks over and over again though, album could have been trimmed a bit.

that's basically how I felt about it - it's too long and there's two songs that share the exact same melody - but I still have a tremendous amount of goodwill towards them

Matty continues to describe Notes as their 'UK nighttime album' influenced by Burial so i'm even more excited for that than i am for A Brief Enquiry

"narcissist" is kind of amazing

i'd imagine matty is very jealous he didn't write this song (assuming he didn't)

tour announced. lack of dates in new york and boston / east coast swing's timing makes me think they'll be playing boston calling and one of the big nyc fests

i really haven't minded the drip feed approach they've taken this time, new songs monthly for a year straight (with an album half-way and another at the end) is pretty great

Do you think they'll add more dates to that tour or have another leg? I'm bummed they're not playing Calgary this time (they've played here for their past two albums) and strongly considering travelling to see them considering I haven't traveled in years

melody is similar to 'heaven is a place on earth'

Speaking as someone who's been clean for 11 years as of this month, "Collapse my veins wearing beautiful shoes" is one of the most poignant lines about heroin addition that I've ever heard in song. That line would be notable on a solemn, sad, druggy album by a band like Spiritualized, for example. But dropping it into the chorus of such an incredibly hooky '80s pop/rock song feels like a stroke of genius.
