Paco Collars! my dogs wear them proudly. Didn't know that was your friend's shop. I recommend these collars for dogs.

Hotel Shattuck is across the street from the YMCA where I swim twice weekly. Landmark theater downstairs.

three weeks pass...

Am I going to get ads on Facebook Scrabble telling me to vote against Prop C from now until the election?

sarahell, Monday, 15 October 2018 23:32 (five years ago) link

I think you know the answer

Larry Elleison (rogermexico.), Tuesday, 16 October 2018 03:28 (five years ago) link

Οὖτις, Saturday, 27 October 2018 21:32 (five years ago) link

Eh cant say i care too much - that place is lame

Οὖτις, Sunday, 28 October 2018 00:24 (five years ago) link

I don’t have feels about Laundré one way or the other but demanding access to their books? gtfo

Larry Elleison (rogermexico.), Sunday, 28 October 2018 00:31 (five years ago) link

so yeah Cinderella isn’t like Tartine but hey a shakedown opportunity is a shakedown opportunity

Larry Elleison (rogermexico.), Sunday, 28 October 2018 00:33 (five years ago) link

haven't been to Laundré so I have no opinion on the place itself but I did want to open something like that place in the east bay at some point! poo. maybe I can still get away with it.

I think local community organizations are important; but that all sounds kind of bad. And frankly I've seen local community groups do more damage to Berkeley than good; they're absurdly hostile to businesses, even small businesses, here.

akm, Sunday, 28 October 2018 15:24 (five years ago) link

I get the sense that there are a lot of things the reporter misunderstood or wrote in a misleading way. The comments are actually not horrible, as far as comments sections go.

It sounds like the United to Save the Mission people met with the business owner and her people, and discussed things. There were undoubtedly some things that were crucial to the agreement, and there were probably some things they said that were along the lines of "it would be cool if you did x" but those weren't things that would explicitly go into the MOU. At "worst" they would be examples of something like, "provide an inviting atmosphere to local families" which could include x, y, and z.

But, it makes me think of the flipside, of business districts and groups that impose rules about decor and business practices that are designed to encourage gentrification and tourism, that one might think should just be up to the owner(s) of the business.

sarahell, Sunday, 28 October 2018 17:12 (five years ago) link

Yeah that was my interpretation too

Οὖτις, Sunday, 28 October 2018 17:38 (five years ago) link

Re: how the meetng was reported

Οὖτις, Sunday, 28 October 2018 17:39 (five years ago) link

maybe. “give us your books” is next-level.

Larry Elleison (rogermexico.), Sunday, 28 October 2018 18:06 (five years ago) link

otoh these coalitions tend to be made up of a bunch of people who are progressive, but also realistic and sane, but there are also people who are aggro-radicals who will try to pull ridiculous shit.

two weeks pass...

What not to do? Breathe. Air quality just went to purple - unsafe for everyone.

DJI, Thursday, 15 November 2018 21:59 (five years ago) link

turns out I am really glad to be going to Yosemite this weekend where the air is still clear

Οὖτις, Thursday, 15 November 2018 22:06 (five years ago) link

Wonder if anyone still has N99 masks in stock, I'm always slow on this stuff

Uhura Mazda (lukas), Thursday, 15 November 2018 22:33 (five years ago) link

I'm gonna be out there next week so I can experience this wonderful air you have. Would love any recommendations anyone has. Would also be down for a meetup if folks can pull themselves away from Thanksgiving festivities.

Mario Meatwagon (Moodles), Thursday, 15 November 2018 22:39 (five years ago) link

It's worse in SF than in Chico (where the fire is only 40%). Sacramento is currently rated as Emergency Hazardous.

Jersey Al (Albert R. Broccoli), Thursday, 15 November 2018 22:47 (five years ago) link

...40% contained

Jersey Al (Albert R. Broccoli), Thursday, 15 November 2018 22:47 (five years ago) link

Its gonna rain all next week, you should be good. It’s just right now that sucks

Οὖτις, Thursday, 15 November 2018 22:48 (five years ago) link

I have decided to just pretend I'm living in 19th century London now

Recommendations: stay inside. (Like, go to museums.)

Meetup: maybe but I suspect I'll be hunkering down myself after running errands Saturday morning. Honestly will have to see what the weather's like.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 15 November 2018 22:53 (five years ago) link

it doesn't feel that bad to me? it just feels like a smog day

sarahell, Friday, 16 November 2018 22:59 (five years ago) link

I am mostly indoors except driving, it has been like grey fog 24/7 all week

Οὖτις, Wednesday, 28 November 2018 00:25 (five years ago) link

I think the fact that a Latino family dispute led to the eviction is relevant. It's not like Cinderella Bakery are vultures flipping properties and evicting families, it's like Call 24's only objection is based on the owners' ethnicity, which is lame.

Οὖτις, Wednesday, 28 November 2018 00:26 (five years ago) link

Mm. Guess we'll have to see.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 28 November 2018 00:28 (five years ago) link

thanks for the update shakey - i would have loved to see this go another way but per discussion upthread i can't say i'm surprised

also have any of these people that are going to picket it actually eaten at Cinderella Bakery becuz it is *delicious*

Retweet and help figure out who these drunk #santacon partiers are, they assaulted an employee and trashed my favorite Pakistani restaurant in #SF after they were asked to leave for loitering on Saturday night pic.twitter.com/RiknV1v8Mv

Οὖτις, Thursday, 13 December 2018 18:41 (five years ago) link

Not too shabby! Any old timers remember the place in the Bayview that was a strip club called the Pirate's Booty or something similar?

Jersey Al (Albert R. Broccoli), Thursday, 13 December 2018 19:11 (five years ago) link

Our company orders catered lunch once a week, but throws out the leftovers after a day. I'm trying to propose something a bit more sensible and found this: http://www.foodrunners.org/donate-food/

OTOH this sounds good, but on the other, I see the same homeless people outside the building every day, and sending the food through a middleman seems kinda circuitous? Anyone else have thoughts?

Siouxie Sioux Vide (Leee), Tuesday, 18 December 2018 23:28 (five years ago) link

just do it yourself? idk

Οὖτις, Tuesday, 18 December 2018 23:39 (five years ago) link

Yah thats total bs if they are throwing out a significant amount of food. I'd complain to facilities and make them do something about it.

kurt schwitterz, Tuesday, 18 December 2018 23:53 (five years ago) link

I've thought about just passing out the food myself but I'm sort of worried about logistics, and I don't want my own prejudices to bias who gets a share and not.
