Heard an edit of the long track on the radio and loved it. Not listened to the whole album yet, but have it on order.

Loved Impossible Spaces and v intrigued by Tim F's comparison of the new one to John Martyn.

Liking this a good deal. I've honestly not listened to anything beyond Like Hearts Swelling so wasn't expecting the drifting Arthur Russell sound. Agree there's a John Martyn feel to it - particularly circa One World. The presence of Bejar makes sense too: there's a distant relationship to the more open spaces of Kaputt.

+1 on Impossible Spaces being a modern masterpiece. Nothing else so entirely and consistently makes me feel I’m having a drug experience.

The title track on the new one discovers a hitherto unimagined midpoint between Martyn's "Small Hours" and the 12" mix of "Bizarre Love Triangle".

(actually arguably The Blue Nile already discovered this with "Rags To Riches", which is the other reference point I'd offer up)

Can't believe this could be his breakthrough. Always found he deserved it, never imagined it actually happening though. Can't stress enough that newcomers should check out his earlier work; Bejar's contribution here is brilliant, but Perri can stand, as he has done, on his own feet quite comfortably.

The Bejar collaboration might be my least favourite thing here actually - that's not a diss, it's great, but I think I marginally prefer the first two parts of "Everybody's Paris", while the title track is the clear standout for me.

i pressed play on this and four minutes into the first song i was like "i hope this goes on for a while it's really nice" and wow there are twenty minutes left to go, that is fucking radical

well, the opener is a lot better than the rest but that track is possibly the best new thing i've heard this year, so it's all good.

maybe it's the Dombal reading, but I can't let go of the feeling that, for all it's blissful subtlety, this is a political record

didn't catch all the Paris lyrics, but it's perhaps a meditation on the terrorist attacks?

The Paris Song makes me think of a Leonard Cohen song structure.

not totally into this on first listen tbh, but it did remind me of some stuff that i definitely do like - the tortoise & will oldham album especially, but also some of the stuff on the last shy layers record

really love him as guitarist. he's clearly a producer first and a guitarist second, but he does well with making the parts so textural and restrained. great stuff on impossible spaces too

saw him open for destroyer and the guy i was wish yelled WOLFMAN!! over and over. it was really obnoxious at the time but that song really is a jam

am I off-base in thinking that this kinda sounds like a super stretched-out version of the last couple albums by The National? not in a bad way, but it struck me immediately.

I've only come to him recently, but Perri's three 2010s albums must be up there for a 'best run of the decade' award, non?

the new one is good, though not as magical as in another life. the clav on wrong about the rain is one of my favorite sounds in any song this year.
