Very glad to not be going anywhere near an airport for three whole months.

In the BA Concorde Lounge ahead of a First Class flight to HK feeling slightly better about all the long haul economy flights that earned the air miles I am cashing in.

was meant to be flying back from nine hours in Boise at 9pm

sans lep (sic), Saturday, 15 December 2018 05:15 (five years ago) link

this got pushed to 9:55

then the incoming plane we were meant to be getting on suffered turbulence, and we were told that by 10:30pm we’d have more information

sans lep (sic), Saturday, 15 December 2018 05:17 (five years ago) link

that plane has been too damaged to fly, and we might be getting on a flight that’s due to land at 10:28, but obv won’t have any updates until after it gets onto the ground.

Not sure if I’m on the second or third loop of the Christmas music playing. They do include Baby It’s Cold Outside though.

sans lep (sic), Saturday, 15 December 2018 05:50 (five years ago) link

It’s 11:16 and we’re on a plane but they have to de-ice the wings, and the crew aren’t allowed to stand up during the flight

sans lep (sic), Saturday, 15 December 2018 06:16 (five years ago) link

they gave you a fair musical warning about the ice on the wings

estela, Saturday, 15 December 2018 09:12 (five years ago) link

I really couldn’t stay.

five months pass...

I work at Gatwick so I'm usually in an airport. But I'm not usually locked in a stockroom/office cos somebody with a knife is wandering around airside with a knife!

Came out of the lifts at around 2 am which are located just thru security with my trolley of stock and I could see the backs of about six security people running towards the Dept lounge. I figured that a flight had been cancelled and some passengers were refusing to leave (this happens quite often). Went into our shop to ask the other replenners if they knew what was going on but before I could say anything I heard a commotion in the corridor so went back out to have a look and saw security running back towards the staff entrance shouting at the staff at the body scanners to clear out. Looked to my left and saw some guy walking down the corridor with a big fuck off kitchen knife in his left hand shouting " which of you pussy holes wants it?"

Decided I didn' t in fact 'want it' so ducked back into the shop and let the 3 colleagues there know and the supervisor led us to the stockroom which has a keypad lock and we stayed there. Don't know if one of the chef's at the airport had just had an episode or something but it was p scary. He was roaming for a while cos a couple of our colleagues who were working in other shops joined us about ten mins later and said they' d just seen the guy as well. After another ten mins security came by and said the incident had been dealt with.

lol nice to see gatwick pretending that dude approached staff entrance where officers then tazed him. what actually happened was security let him walk through staff entrance (i don't blame them he had 2 huge knives and security are unarmed and don't have stab vests) dude then proceeded to wander around dept lounge threatening shop workers and cleaners before eventually making his way back to the staff entrance where the police arrived and tased him.

Narita ftw

I will be at both Narita and Haneda on friday.

American Fear of Pranksterism (Ed), Wednesday, 21 August 2019 09:50 (four years ago) link

i'd take haneda over narita any day but i've had to use narita already twice this month for the tokyo to beijing through incheon flight (and tokyo to xi'an through incheon).

incheon has jamba juice and quiznos which is novel coming from japan

XxxxxxxXxxxxxxxxXxxxx (dylannn), Wednesday, 21 August 2019 14:23 (four years ago) link

I have the misfortune of landing at Narita and flying out of Haneda, no biggie, just 2 hours on the Keisei and Keikyu thinking about what to get for lunch.

American Fear of Pranksterism (Ed), Wednesday, 21 August 2019 20:46 (four years ago) link

dylannn OTM. Narita is only convenient if you have in-laws in Chibaken.

I'd even take KIX over NRT.

Jersey Al (Albert R. Broccoli), Sunday, 25 August 2019 18:41 (four years ago) link

when i went to japan last month i flew into haneda and was impressed with how quickly everyone was processed through customs and was still treated with more dignity there than by cbp in the us.

I’m thinking my flight tomorrow is one where I’ll go through US customs in Canada, which always seems a little funny but whatever

it took a lot longer to buy my bus pass at trudeau/montreal than it did to go through canadian customs!

untuned mass damper (mh), Sunday, 25 August 2019 20:01 (four years ago) link

us customs fucking sucks
they srsly do not gaf

had my first experience using global entry last week, was glad I got it, it made US customs a lot less painful

Dan S, Sunday, 25 August 2019 21:35 (four years ago) link

i went throigh us customs yesterday

granted 5 planes unloaded at the same time but still - we had 4, wait no he left so 3, oop he left now too so make that 2 inspectors operating for half the entire hall ... stood in that godawful room for 90 minutes before passing through

assclowns

also they’ve overhauled every nook & cranny of that airport EXCEPT for the customs area. except for the passport kiosks it’s exactly the same as it was in 2002 when i immigrated. hated it then, hate it now

middle of the country has one of the worst seasonal allergy peaks I've experienced in recent years
hopefully it'll be much better in montreal!

mh, Friday, 27 September 2019 20:19 (four years ago) link

I got tested for allergies recently and only reacted to tree and grass pollen (which should be done by now). Confounding and v annoying.

I was in Montreal a month or so back and while I was gone, ragweed season started back home. Getting off the plane was an instant sneezing thing

she just landed, 7 hours after her original arrival time.

Josh in Chicago, Saturday, 28 September 2019 00:25 (four years ago) link

I think I was delayed something like fourteen hours for a flight from Chicago to Des Moines once. It was “just another 45 minutes!” up until there were no more flights for the day and we were bumped to 8am
