Most ridiculous post about 'NTS Sessions 1-4' album on the Autechre thread

I know this has turned into an Autechre fan thread which is great and all but I'd never seen this Whiney poll before and it's the same needlessly cruel vein as the Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith poll a couple years back. I respect the guy tremendously as a writer, so my question is this: was he always this much of a sociopath (on ILX)?

e0 is my favourite at the moment. Still can't make my mind up about this record, so it's probably brilliant

for how long some/all of these tracks are, they breathe a lot and don't ever really get exhausting

Funny - that's the exact track I'm listening to at the moment when I hopped into this thread today!

No. 3 finally clicked for me last week. The tracks definitely don't develop as much as on the other sessions but I started to see them as sublime machines, maybe repetitive but with a complex and beautiful motion.

In other news, I didn't get around to buying a t-shirt and now they're sold out I'm unaccountably forlorn.

"four of seven" is a banger that disintegrates into hard ambient cubes. i think it's my favorite now?

tt1pd sounds like a creaky rocking chair (in a good way)

it has been nice to slowly realize over the course of months how much of this is downright catchy

i've had a couple of moments where a track that hasn't at all been in my go-to list has suddenly popped in to my head and comfortably sat in there for a day or two.

i wasn't big on 'four of seven' at first but now it's one of my favorites. it's a magnificent slow burn. the hooks in that thing are just hard in a really subtle way.

tt1pd is the one that gets my head banging a little bit. sounds great on the road.

This seems as good a place as any to mention that after many years Chiastic Slide has finally clicked with me.

finding it difficult to say which session is my favorite. my favorite track seems easier, "shimripl casual" or "four of seven" or "violvoic" or "fLh" ok that isn't easy either

Yeah I ranked 11 of these tracks 5 stars on my itunes, so yeah, would be a tough poll

'tt1pd' sounds like what you might hear when your head is pushed down in a bucket of ice water for a bit too long. In a good way, if that's at all possible to imagine.

Idk what my fave session is, it's between 3 and 4 probably, but this whole mammoth of an 'album' gnaws away at me deliciously. Not surprisingly the ambient stretches are my fave, so I'd have to say 4 right? But then suddenly a piece like 'shimripl air' comes along, on 3, and it suddenly just... stops the world from turning.

i decided over the weekend my favorite is 3. 2 and 4 close behind

3 just kinda has the widest variety of moods and some of the most punishing moments and i keep getting drawn back to both of these things

Through 3 of these sessions and I feel I could reduce the 6 hours to about 1.5 for a personal "mini album".

I'm really getting into the ambient pieces that initially felt incidental, like 32_areflected and shrimpl casual

That's cool. 3 seems like 'safest bet' of the 4 sessions, because of its variety, but 'safest bet' not meant in any derogatory way at all.

I will have to go with 4. I always go with 4. Ambient Autechre 4 life.

hmm, aside from shrimpl air it mostly feels like relentless machinery to me! in a good way of course. i'd probably rank them 1,2,4,3, though if i carry on listening to them as solidly as i have been that could still change.

Joke's on us probably, I can see AE never having thought of clear distinctions between '1, 2, 3, 4' to begin with.

ditto, any excuse to revisit, plus I'd love to get some other perspectives to maybe see certain tracks in a different light

i think this one is very nice if you have a quality sound situation, headphones or big loud speakers or whatever, and can just focus on the ingenious little bends in the voicing.
