Please lock this thread

I have to say I'm really disappointed at this thread being locked just after someone pointed out what a bad look it was to pile on like this, so now the pile-on just stands uncontested

(I know this is going to be perceived as "taking sides" or whatever, but the thread, to me, was going in a very disturbing "welp, glad we've settled that" direction for what is a fairly ambiguous situation and post)

(also I'm sorry if this is the wrong thread, but when I click on "mod" it doesn't give me an option to email privately, it says that user is not in the database)

I mean, it's not uncontested - you contested it (and I'm glad you did).

anyway, I don’t want this thread to turn into a re-litigation, I just couldn’t find a way to contact the mod

agree that a lot of speculatiargument was likely to kick off and a temp lock is a sensible idea

mod here. i personally felt uncomfortable about much of the discussion in the thread throughout the day. the discussion was centered around the personal life of someone who many of us consider a friend. when multiple people asked for the thread to be locked, i took it as a reasonable request. i think it would be good to let this all cool off for a while.

did not mean to lock it at a particular point that silenced any views.

thought fgti's posts were good, but I also thought "stalker" might be taking it too far (though there could be things I don't know about the situation). I also don't think people were "piling on", but appreciate katherine resisting the ilx otm chorus (just because it isn't so interesting). Agree with Simon that things weren't so bad in there, though, and I think that this will probably be the place where the most thoughtful discussion on this would occur. so will be a shame if a cooling off period kills it.

xp yeah, I'm definitely sympathetic to that idea. and I understand why this would be something you'd feel strongly about. but at the same time, from the description of his own actions coming from this tumblr which I wish I'd never read, I feel that JD wouldn't want the comparisons for this individual to be quite so vivid. though I still think your read is basically otm.

and clearly, you made some people rethink things, which seems like an overall positive result of those posts existing

The part of fgti’s post that was otm wasn’t that—it was the stuff about how unnerving it was that the tumblr writer felt so comfortable twisting important concepts about power and abuse to his own ends when they really weren’t pertinent to the situation at hand
