two weeks pass...

I feel bummed for Jalen Hurts as that guy was the best offensive player on the field in a few games I saw Bama play, but while that Tuo guy throwing motion looks like he is shot-putting the football he is f-in crazy accurate passer. Crazy Still think the situation is pretty cold blooded considering how well Hurts played for the Tide. Shit thing is that they will keep him from going anyplace where Hurts could come back to beat Alabama.

Watched a good part of the OSU game yesterday. They got a few guys that are total beasts on defense, but I still dont' think they looked as good as Alabama did demolishing Ole Miss today.

earlnash, Sunday, 16 September 2018 13:22 (five years ago) link

This Alabama team is better than any team in the country. I'm not saying they would beat all teams 100% of the time, but top to bottom no one is better. It's also the best Saban-era Alabama team. Like, I can't believe my own eyes when they're on the field.

(now watch them lose to TAMU or some shit.)

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 16 September 2018 14:18 (five years ago) link

If Alabama gets to humiliate any SEC team by pummeling them for an easy win, I guess Ole Miss would be my top pick for the pummelee.

A is for (Aimless), Sunday, 16 September 2018 18:15 (five years ago) link

Ole Miss hung with them for a while and then the Tide just dropped a bomb on them to pass for a TD, then a D-lineman intercepted a shovel pass for a TD and the score flipped from up 1 to down 13 in a few seconds.

Same thing happens with Indiana against the Big10 powers, they hang on for a bit but the top clubs like Penn State or Ohio State literally have backups that are probably better than your starters and they lose nothing going to the second string.

earlnash, Monday, 17 September 2018 02:16 (five years ago) link

My animus toward Alabama is founded in my animus toward every football factory school, from Ohio State and Michigan to USC and Notre Dame. I hate the scramble for prestige and money that drives the top schools to corner the five-star recruits who are all looking for that sweet NFL money, or at least expecting a cushie job working for a rich alumnus, in case the NFL passes them by.

It's just that Ole Miss represents the worst, ugliest, most "Lost Cause"-loving, segregationist, fraternity-infected aspect of the SEC and if they never win another game I would be profoundly satisfied. It's OK with me if Alabama kicks them all over the field like a rag doll in the hands of a sadistic kid.

A is for (Aimless), Monday, 17 September 2018 05:18 (five years ago) link

It's also the best Saban-era Alabama team

this seems to be undeniably true. crazy that a bama team hasn't finished a season undefeated since 2009 (and that was, remarkably, a lower-end team on the saban talent spectrum), but i think this one has got the goods.

I got a big FU for whatever worthless nut Buckeye came up with the idea and printed "MEYER STRONG" t-shirts. OSU fans just suck.

Bennie Snell Jr. had a huge game tonight and UK's o-line pushed around this supposed 'best D-line in college football' from Mississippi State. I think Snell's speed and power will make him some money playing on Sunday.

There are a limited number of ways to enjoy this season, since 'Bama is going to win out in a walk, but seeing Ohio State and Urban Meyer ranked #2 and lose to Purdue by 4 touchdowns makes me very happy.

Old Dominion v Western Kentucky.

Last play of the game (game tied) - WKU incomplete pass but there's roughing the passer.

Last play of the game (game tied) - WKU trys long field goal but it's short. But Old Dominion has 12 men on the field.

Last play of the game (game tied) - WKU trys another long field goal but it's short. Old Dominion returns the field goal down the to 15 yard line. But WKU is called for facemasking on the return.

Last play of the game (game tied) Old Dominion wins on short field goal.

That wku/od ending is pretty wacky.

Pass stats in college are often big numbers but Tua is 107-152 for 2066 yards, 27 Tds and Zero interceptions.
QB rating is 238.8. Tecmo bowl!

It's interesting to me how bored everyone is with Alabama (except their loyal fans), at least until they play another top 3 team. Who but fans wants to watch one blowout after another against overmatched teams?

de facto SEC semifinals this weekend: LSU/Bama, UGA/UK.

my predictions: UGA wins in a close call and Bama beats LSU by double digits, but Tua throws his first pick and takes his first 4Q snaps of the season

fred-a van vleet (voodoo chili), Thursday, 1 November 2018 15:41 (five years ago) link

When Alabama solidly squashes LSU on Saturday the only interesting thing about it will be how the masterminds on the playoff-ranking committee rank LSU afterward.

A is for (Aimless), Thursday, 1 November 2018 18:16 (five years ago) link

Got to say, watching UK and Georgia - the Bulldogs are a bigger and faster group of players. Kentucky gave up a couple of big plays that was their big downfall.

Flipping around, I happened to catch Air Force and Army was starting on the CBS sports channel. You want to go in a time machine and watch old style football, that is a came for you. Lots and lots of fullback dive plays being run. Army drove down and scored to start the game on a 12.55 drive!!! Very fun.

TELL THE MAN WHAT HE'S WON

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 4 November 2018 05:20 (five years ago) link

I've seen parts of games on most of the Big10 and SEC clubs - none of them are going to be able to hang with Alabama unless they fumble the game away.

Michigan's defense is pretty good, but I think the results would be exactly like what happened to LSU. OSU losing Boza and getting a bit knicked up in other places knocks them down a notch. They might be able to cover a spread against Alabama, but they make too many mistakes to make it close.

Alabama has too much defense to allow a team to run the ball and control the clock and the clubs that might have enough flash on offense to hang with them on that side couldn't stop anything (Big12 or PAC10 best teams).

Georgia doesn't look as good as last year and the talking heads don't think Clemson are as good this year but they seem to be the only two clubs close to the Tide.

Clemson didn't score very many points when Julian Love was on the field. It was probably the worst player for us to lose in that game. It is true that we didn't have the luxury to replace a draft pick suspended for doping with another, just later-projected, draft pick. Depth will always be a weakness for us, and the best teams have it.

We also had some pretty iffy calls go against us. The kickoff fumble recovery that was overturned for being out of bounds and the "incomplete" pass during our last gasp drive looked pretty bad on the jumbotron.

Chip Long had a terrible game, though. I don't know what to think of that guy anymore.

Brad C., Monday, 31 December 2018 17:51 (five years ago) link

Ohio State lost by more points to Purdue than ND did to Clemson. Georgia lost twice. The playoff committee's choices clearly give weight to the regular season games.

Sufjan Grafton, Monday, 31 December 2018 18:01 (five years ago) link

The kickoff fumble recovery that was overturned for being out of bounds

Yep, the nose of that football was over the white, so it was Clemson's ball. Sorry.

I didn't see the incomplete pass because I'd stopped watching closely by then.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 31 December 2018 21:47 (five years ago) link

Yeah, the high contrast sideline took that fumble away from ND, because about a half inch of the ball crossed the line and it stood out boldly against the white. As no one says, it's a game of half inches.

the sideline and goal line are different. there is no infinite plane extending above the sideline. for example, you can hold the ball over the sideline while your feet are in bounds, and you won't be ruled out of bounds.

Sufjan Grafton, Tuesday, 1 January 2019 16:05 (five years ago) link
