The major reason McCain was against torture was because he'd been tortured. He'd never been bombed or struggled to get by or been called a racial epithet, so he was fine with all that.

That's an asinine argument. Let me show you:

Both Morbs and Trump refuse to pay tribute to McCain

What unites them is greater than what divides them.

small thing in grand scheme of things but this ticked me off hearing about it after I moved to AZ:
He was against limiting number of helicopter tours in Grand Canyon, with the argument that it's the only way for some disabled veterans to see it and we'd be denying that privilege to our wounded warriors blah blah. The proposal would still have allowed for like 4500 flights per year. Teeniest bit of research showed that 90% of the tours were bought by wealthy foreigners. Turns out McCain had gotten campaign contributions from the heli tour operators.

oh MAN. I should poll these pearls:

- Leadership: What is he?

- Ronald Reagan. 1984. Speaking: “If we ever forget that we’re one nation under God,” he said, his deep brown eyes flashing leadershiply

- One day in the Senate mess hall, McCain sat down at my table, where I was dining alone on a salad of watercress. “What do a woman and a fire hydrant have in common?” he asked me, his eyes asparkle with magic. Before he had the chance to answer, an aide interrupted him, and he rushed off. On Saturday, that terrible eve, when I heard that John McCain had passed away at last, I thought back to this riddle. It shall remain an unsolved mystery. Like our Constitution, it will be studied by future generations—its subtleties, perhaps, teased out one day by those who today are just children. In class, they sit. Perhaps in Iowa. Perhaps in fields of grain.

- He paused, and took a sip of what I imagined at the time was absinthe, but which may in retrospect have been water.

- With a final wink—and a smile—he was gone, trailing what seemed to be be sparkles.

- And I turned up the volume just in time to hear him say, “I vote yes to confirm Clarence Thomas to the Supreme Court of the United States of America.” I’ll be damned if he wasn’t winking.

While the leadershiply will attract the most laughter, one must stop and marvel at the concatenation of Speaking:, followed by quotation marks and he said, just in case we didn't get the idea.

As a mark of respect for the memory and longstanding service of Senator John Sidney McCain III, I hereby order, by the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, that the flag of the United States shall be flown at half-staff at the White House and upon all public buildings and grounds, at all military posts and naval stations, and on all naval vessels of the Federal Government in the District of Columbia and throughout the United States and its Territories and possessions until sunset, on the day of interment.

I also direct that the flag shall be flown at half‑staff for the same period at all United States embassies, legations, consular offices, and other facilities abroad, including all military facilities and naval vessels and stations. IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this twenty-seventh day of August, in the year of our Lord two thousand eighteen, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and forty-third. Not for nothin’, but in 2004 the Dem Prez nominee was a Vietnam war hero who devoted the rest of his life to admirable public political service; the right viciously belittled, fabricated, and mocked all of it, including his Purple Heart.
