Man, just came here to post more or less the same thing. Hope she pulls through. Feel lucky I was able to take my whole family to see her perform around a year ago.

Not the kindest euro paper

"Fatty Aretha Franklin is back alert and even shares 'tease'"

"On Tuesday Stevie Wonder visited 'The Queen of Soul' to give her a final greeting. Possibly it caused a miracle"

hope she pulls thru!

You might want to find a better translator, because nowhere does it say 'fatty' in the original article.

When you go into the article, the automatic Google Translate brings it up as "fatty" in English. It seems to mean something like "ill patient" or "afflicted" though.

With my limited ability to use a Dutch dictionary I can hazard a guess that the first word means “terminally ill” - literally “deathsick.”

Damn, I hope she pulls through so I can snatch that as my next ILX username.

Perhaps Google Translate thought the word was a compound or derivative of “dikte” which, like its German equivalent “Dicke” means thickness, but can also mean “fatty,” perhaps, I guess.

Recently came across this, which may be relevant. Het middel is erger dan de kwaal.

You still used Google Translate or something to translate part or all of that, which is where the “staircase” arose.

My wife and I saw her in Chicago in the spring of last year and she still brought down the house. She sat for most of the concert, and had to take a bit of a break with a set that featured her band, but man was her voice a star. Rev. Jesse Jackson was two rows in front of us, and she saw him and declared, "what are you doing way back there, Jesse?, come right up front right now!" It was a magical night for sure. Rest in Power - R.E.S.P.E.C.T. Aretha!

Okay, sorry to belabor the point but hey ilx: forgot the iPhone has a Dutch dictionary - two actually- which translates the word as “mortally ill.”

That's what it means, yes, but that was already well established iirc
