Fran Tarkenton made some serious bank roll in the computer software industry after football (and TV).

I'm all for the old school guys coming out of nowhere and slamming the modern players.

If I was the NFL network I'd have a show where they just have guys like this or Chuck Bednarik just come out and rail on modern football. Cause on the one hand, it is always funny when the old dude lambasts someone and while they are probably much better athletes, most of these guys are way over paid divas and pussies compared to the old dudes.

Ron Yary played for the Vikings from 1968 through 1981. Fran Tarkenton, who has chastised quarterback Brett Favre for the possibility of signing with the Vikings, was quarterback for three of the losing Super Bowl teams Yary played on. Yary, like Tarkenton a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, has great admiration -- and empathy -- for Favre, a future hall of famer. "If the Vikings would have had Brett Favre during the time of my career, we would have been 7-0 in Super Bowls. Absolutely," Yary said.

Count Hall of Fame receiver Michael Irvin among those who think Brett Favre should bag the idea of playing for Minnesota and instead call it a career. "Listen, Favre's 100 years old; stop this already," said Irvin, in Los Angeles to promote his Spike TV reality show "4th and Long." "I love Favre and I think he's been a phenomenal talent for a long time. But when I think about it now, I say, 'Stop it already.' I don't mind that you still want to play football, but do you want to play so much, and you want to get back at [Green Bay General Manager] Ted Thompson so much, that you're willing to go back into Lambeau and hurt those fans that supported you for so long?"

The quarterback is to appear Monday night on the premiere of Joe Buck Live. The HBO sports show is hosted by the longtime baseball and football announcer. HBO says Favre agreed in April to appear on the show at Buck's request. That was before his release from the New York Jets, prompting Minnesota's pursuit of the 39-year-old three-time NFL MVP.

o lorenzopaws:

NEW YORK (AP) — Brett Favre says he is considering coming out of retirement for a second time and the only team he has talked to about a return to the NFL is the Minnesota Vikings. Favre appeared on the new HBO show "Joe Buck Live" in his first public appearance since retiring from the New York Jets in February.

The three-time NFL MVP said Monday night he had surgery 2 1/2 weeks ago on his throwing arm. He says the doctor who performed the surgery on his biceps told him it would take four to five weeks for the NFL's career leader in touchdown passes to know if the procedure was a success. Favre says he has had contact with the Vikings, but "nothing more than are you interested."

Okay, it's really rare I remember my dreams and I generally only remember part of them but I SWEAR TO GOD I actually had this dream last night:

You know how in dreams you sometimes "are" a person, but you're seeing them from the outside too? Okay, so I'm Brett Favre. And I'm standing on top of an overpass, maybe eighty, ninety feet off the ground. I'm holding my kid and my wife is standing next to me. And I make the decision to leap off the overpass and I'm going to do it with my kid. I know it's a bad idea, but I'm going to do it anyway. So I leap off and my wife is screaming so I think "okay, gotta protect my kid" so I intend to roll on my back to take the brunt of the impact, but without thinking I actively push my child away and she flies off in another direction and Brett is screaming and his wife is screaming and his kid is screaming and then kid hits the ground and Brett/I hits the ground and we all die. Then I wake up.

⇑⇑⇓⇓⇐⇒⇐⇒ΛΒΒΛŠΤΛΓΤ (forksclovetofu), Monday, 20 July 2009 00:42 (fourteen years ago) link

tbh i think brett favre, when faced with the choice of stepping back from the brink of the overpass and definitely keeping himself and his kid safe OR jumping and just seeing what happens for the heck of it, would always choose the latter

"he said...all things passantino the night" (omar little), Monday, 20 July 2009 00:45 (fourteen years ago) link
