Why do people leave ILX for good?

I feel for a lot of people here who are experiencing extreme anxiety due to the climate were in. Hopefully there is peace around the corner or just take some time for yourself to feel less anxious

I'm glad when I see you post too. Whenever I get angry at someone on ilx for being lazily opaque I end up talking about food.

Did Ross have a different screen name before in 20 years of posting? I feel like I just saw the name pop up in abundance recently and truly cannot keep track of who is oldtime and who is real and who is pretending anymore. There is not a thread I'm aware of to get a straight answer so I figured I would ask here for transparency's sake.

hey la lechera, i should clarify i was a lurker for 18-19 years truthfully, i posted once back in the day but got my ass handed to me on a platter so lurked up until 2 years ago maybe...

i definitely have followed all the rockism-changes in personnel here over the years tho

probably because this is one of the few places that still makes me smile online, as of now i have left for days-a week at a time and considered leaving further, but i may just take extended breaks. anyway this will be the last time i claim to leave if im not gonna hold up that end of the bargain, please carry on :)

it seems weird to me that anyone would lurk for what amounts to an entire lifetime, then post a ton for 2 years while also making regular claims to leave.
why wouldn't you just silently go back to lurking if you were so comfortable doing that for almost 2 decades?

the lurker mentality and the current mentality seem at odds in a way i can't understand

comes down to once you get involved here it is hard to tear away, whether it is polls-end of year lists

Not to sound like a pity party but personally I don't think I'm on anyone's radar enough that anyone would notice if I stopped completely.
Therefore imo announcing "leaving" is probably more useful as a way to motivate yourself to officially tear away than it is useful information for others.

This conversation reminds me of drash, whom I miss here.

I see parentheses

I think at some point they got split out into "okay, what's your permanent username" vs "okay, what's your changeable display name"

The effect is a bit "the wind changed unexpectedly" in some cases.
