xps Haven't Stoke signed Ashley Williams?

groovypanda, Thursday, 2 August 2018 09:40 (five years ago) link

fuck me, didn't realise that old football hooligan Ronnie Jepson was at Cardiff with Warnock. I once saw him making an absolute pissed up prick out himself on a train and would say he is a deeply unpleasant and violent idiot to say the least. Welcome to the Prem lads!

calzino, Thursday, 2 August 2018 09:46 (five years ago) link

im over this season already tbh

dele alli my bookmarks (darraghmac), Thursday, 2 August 2018 09:56 (five years ago) link

Shouldn't the EPL be mentioned somewhere in the title? Or has the EPL just swallowed football whole? (Silly question)

Father Ted in Forkhandles (Tom D.), Thursday, 2 August 2018 10:00 (five years ago) link

I can't believe Cardiff are starting a Premier campaign with Lee Peltier at RB and Danny Ward amongst the forwards, no wonder Warnock will gone by October.

calzino, Thursday, 2 August 2018 10:05 (five years ago) link

Warnock is one of these managers where the same backroom and same garbage players follow him about from club to club like a bad smell. Yeah he's had loads of promotions and I used to love him when I was a kid (early 20's tbf!), but it is probably a good thing that his crude methods are just not good enough for the Prem.

calzino, Thursday, 2 August 2018 10:14 (five years ago) link

Literally everything about Cardiff is unpleasant and I hope they go straight back down with the lowest point score in history.

Lots of chatter about Spurs bidding £30m for Lewis Cook, who is exactly the sort of player we could do with and one I can see really improving under Poch.

Too big for ILF.

I've never wanted Aberdeen to win a football match more:

As a Dons fan I know posted the other day, when Burnley qualified for Europe all they had was a dream and 120 million quid.

Joe Hart + Ben Gibson look done deals to Burnley. Both of them passing Dyche's stringent criteria for what makes a solid Burnley signing.

we've now beaten 3 decent top tier Euro sides(Lyon,Bolagna,RB Liepzig) 3-1, 2-1, and finally 3-0 just now. We're ready!

the Joao looked at Jonny (Noodle Vague), Monday, 6 August 2018 09:28 (five years ago) link

Middlesborough seem to be having a very FFP friendly window, probably watching the QPR situation. I expect us to be linked with Caveleiro .. again, when this is confirmed.

calzino, Monday, 6 August 2018 09:50 (five years ago) link

That seems 50/50. I don't think we *need* to move Cav on but obviously the speculation won't go away. My guess is - not this window. But we'll see, there's no sentiment in our transfer policy now.

the Joao looked at Jonny (Noodle Vague), Monday, 6 August 2018 10:02 (five years ago) link

ogmor, Tuesday, 7 August 2018 07:50 (five years ago) link

Brighton won't finish rock bottom, and probably have a realistic chance of finishing above Watford + Southampton for starters!

we are bidding £13.5m for Montpellier's Issac Mbenza. The consensus from their messageboard seems to be: talented, but those English clubs, they crazy! But saying that 10 goals playing on the right last season in Ligue 1 is at least very impressive on paper.

calzino, Tuesday, 7 August 2018 07:52 (five years ago) link

and like with Wagner, Hughton won't be sacked when the going get's tough, which can go either way, but clubs changing managers mid-season aren't always lucky enough to get that Mark Hughes bounce!

there is something a bit more "continental" + "progressive" and reaching outwards with your brand about "Aston Villa" whilst also sounding conservative at the same time, but without admitting you love mountains of dead disabled/poor ppl's corpses and tax avoidance schemes, cos you are so nice and love drinking Columbian coffee. Villa have a lot of ultra-posh fans because of a historic association with eton college iirc, which they continue to cultivate to this day. Wd explain Cameron + Prince William at least.

This sounds like crap insofar as Prince William's generation goes; one of the reasons why he decided to support Villa was because so few of his peers supported them.

This is indeed fascinating because, as I'm certain I've mentioned here before, one notable scene in Henry Green's "Living" is when two of the characters go to watch an Aston Villa game.

John Harris is a Guardian columnist (Tom D.), Saturday, 8 June 2019 01:03 (four years ago) link

"... the Villa team comes out, then everyone is shouting. On face of the two mounds great swaying, like corn before wind, is made down towards the ground, frantic excitement. Gates wailed and sobbed for now his voice had left him. The Villa, the Villa, come on the Villa."

Aston Villa smashes club transfer record to sign a Brazilian striker for £22m from Club Brugge! Adjusted for inflation I guess cause I'm pretty sure Darren Bent was always reported as having cost us £24m or thereabouts back when? Or was that 18m with add-ons? Memories :)

I think possibly I have noticed Wesley as a name while clicking through other teams' CL results on my FM19 career but then again possibly not, who can say. youd better believe i'm loading that shit up right now though to find out how good he's gonna be for us in 2023. anyway ive got no intention of letting my own ignorance sully this glorious moment, we're back baby and we're spending irresponsible sums of money on unproven quantities same as the rest of you. A REAL PREMIER LEAGUE TEAM, JUST DOESN'T FEEL RIGHT WITHOUT THEM :) :) :) :)

Hmm, it seems there have been about 40 consecutive posts about Aston Villa on this, the Premier league thread. I'm openly weeping over this discovery, although also it is off-topic because this thread is for the 2018—19 season

Imago is correct that I am an extremely good guy. I 100% knew who Wesley was before we signed him and all. Huht

that £14m on Ross McCormack might seem like wise and careful speculation next to FC ILX splurging £20m on Jack Clarke. I know different leagues and all that but he's looked like a bang average L1 player every time I've seen him and I think it is fair to be judgmental - even towards such a young one - he looks like the consummate flatter to deceive overrated young dud and a complete arsehole to boot!
