The IE usage of "only" seems logical and consistent but hard to explain to me. I think it's basically a limiter, like "just". "Now only" = "just now"; mick signals's above sentence was first class.

(Sure but the Bollywood posters is only one thing. The guy was telling me about various travels in India. He must have expose to IE. Really just trying to determine whether he is just a visual artist type and not tuned into that stuff or if he wasn’t expecting to be discussing it in the situation we were in. Yes, i can imagine a lot of NRIs might not appreciate it.

Indian English is legit interesting as a dialect, in the same way that American English or Australian English is, but idk how easy it would be for everyone to separate that interest from its use a tool to mock Indian migrants (Apu style).

Partic, which may or may not be the case, if you had parents who brought you up to think that non-US-standard English is wrong / embarrassing.
