Da Bum:
I’m growing concerned that Bryant had a chronic shoulder issue that explains his disappearing power the past two years. Talk me down from the ledge Jay!

Jay Jaffe:
I dunno how chronic it is, but the link between the shoulder issue and lesser power is almost certainly more than a coincidence. That said — and I say this without having not looked closely — I wonder if Bryant has gone too far in the other direction when it comes to tweaking his swing to cut down on strikeouts, a change he made a couple years ago. It might be time to review that.

Tonight OF Aaron Judge sustained a chip fracture of the right wrist (ulnar styloid bone). No surgery has been recommended. The Yankees approximate a 3-week time period before Judge can swing a bat in a game situation.

Cardinals' Weaver misses start after cutting finger on food tray

Luke Weaver's fight with dinner prevented him from taking the mound Sunday.

The St. Louis Cardinals right-hander was scratched from his start against the Kansas City Royals after slicing the index finger of his pitching hand on aluminum foil that was covering a tray. The team attempted to glue the wound to allow him to pitch, but it would not hold.

"He cut it on the piece of the topping," Cardinals interim manager Mike Shildt said, according to ESPN.

"It's on his right index finger. He probably could have started, but it just made sense to not push it and have him throw 90 or 100 pitches. We didn't want him to miss another start."

Tyson Ross filled in for Weaver and allowed two runs over six innings while striking out four.

Wil Myers has been scratched from the Padres' lineup Wednesday due to a lacerated nose.

Advice: Myers suffered the injury when he got hit by a stray batting practice ball while standing near the third base bag ahead of Wednesday night's game at Coors Field.

not to be a jerk but that wasn't a "stray" batting practice ball, that was myers not paying attention

that's a paper transaction so he can continue getting into game shape -- he's playing third in columbus today

and hit a grand slam

mookieproof, Monday, 3 September 2018 20:15 (five years ago) link

Not sure what to make of that, he didn't get included in the September call-ups and yet hit a grand slam against a guy who also didn't make the 40-man roster.

he's on a rehab assignment, backdated a few days before the trade. he'll be on the indians sometime next week. they're moving jose ramirez to 2B and kipnis to CF to make room for donaldson at 3B

uh, also ohtani hit a HR tonight (a 361-ft home run, but still). he's still cleared to hit

Karl Malone, Thursday, 6 September 2018 02:33 (five years ago) link

They say it's possible he could play the outfield next year even after TJ? I'm not sure how that would work -- outfielders still have to throw.

NoTimeBeforeTime, Thursday, 6 September 2018 04:06 (five years ago) link

gleyber torres had TJ in late june last year, was hitting at the beginning of spring training and playing shortstop no later than the first week of april. so it seems like if he had the surgery now, he might not miss all that much time as a hitter next year. throwing in the upper 90s might be a good bit longer, tho
