do you see a (potentially transitional) independent NI as a possibility darragh? it feels more likely to me than an immediate union with the Republic

But does Romania want it?

Romania does fully support Moldovan sovereignty but the government has said a number of times (affirmed by a symbolic parliamentary vote as recently as this year) that they would happily reintegrate with Moldova if the Moldovan people wanted it. At present, taken as a whole, a relatively small minority (something like a quarter) currently poll in favour but that could potentially change, at least outside of Transdniestr.
