I dunno maybe "yo led pedants"

It's not that. I have a small video. I dunno if this works.

Ugh, nevermind. I just heard it everywhere today and it may be obvious to most people.

"On est en finale"?

Number None, Sunday, 15 July 2018 19:41 (five years ago) link

frabel = that was after the match against Belgium

StanM, Sunday, 15 July 2018 19:53 (five years ago) link

That song was similar but not quite it. Maybe it was "allez suppo" something.

Yerac, Sunday, 15 July 2018 19:55 (five years ago) link

Talking of French songs - I had this one in my head all yesterday. Its catchy!

The worst thing about England not getting to the final = no repeat of my fave-ever football chant https://t.co/XMNQwCEHQv

I’m on another planet, France championne du monde, crazy parties by the french community in Montreal, and skyping the family back home, and drinking it’s all a lot but loving every minute of it.

Van Horn Street, Sunday, 15 July 2018 20:44 (five years ago) link

Luka award was generous imo

No way, he deserved it 100%.

Alan Alba (Tom D.), Sunday, 15 July 2018 21:36 (five years ago) link

just reading back yesterday after being too in the pub to participate fully and i'm assuming youse France-haters were as HIGH.AS.FUCK.

Paris is the least worst place to be hungover right now.

pomenitul, Monday, 16 July 2018 09:17 (five years ago) link

I'm in Paris. I am pretty hungry. I see there were riots. I only saw one fist fight while getting thai food. We moved the cutlery away from the window.

Yerac, Monday, 16 July 2018 09:34 (five years ago) link

Overall, last night was remarkably well-behaved in the 18ème. Lovely atmosphere, genuinely multicultural.

pomenitul, Monday, 16 July 2018 10:10 (five years ago) link

I'm in the 18ème too, cars honking etc until the morning but that's great. Not gonna go to the défilé today.

droit au butt (Euler), Monday, 16 July 2018 10:14 (five years ago) link

the only thing that's still in my head from yesterday is the bbc commentator saying rly unctuously 'we won't give these idiots the oxygen of publicity' but it was pussy riot

imago, Monday, 16 July 2018 10:19 (five years ago) link

yeah that whole thing was pretty fucking disgusting/depressing tbh

Jules Rimet still leaving (Noodle Vague), Monday, 16 July 2018 10:38 (five years ago) link

I just assumed they thought it was a standard dumb pitch invasion but who knows.

Matt DC, Monday, 16 July 2018 10:42 (five years ago) link

p obv that the commentator doesnt know in advance lads

dele alli my bookmarks (darraghmac), Monday, 16 July 2018 10:46 (five years ago) link

i mean its desperation for an angle to even consider otherwise isnt it

*shines that harsh light back on performative ilxors*

dele alli my bookmarks (darraghmac), Monday, 16 July 2018 10:47 (five years ago) link

as an unreformed hispanophile i want to point out that in their allegedly terrible display against russia spain managed more shots (overall and on target) than france did in any game this wc

this is not to say france didn't deserve to win - their defence was consistently excellent, they had some lethal counters - but rather just to point out that ppl find unproductive play more acceptable if you don't have the ball

it's also hard to square this wc with the idea that the manager's importance is overstated

ogmor, Monday, 16 July 2018 10:55 (five years ago) link

OTM (xp)

Alan Alba (Tom D.), Monday, 16 July 2018 10:56 (five years ago) link

it would be daft to expect a commentator to see a pitch invasion in Russia and think it might have any political protest attached, of course

not suggesting they turned a broadcast of the World Cup final into Any Questions, just saying maybe they cd've shut the fuck up altogether in the moment, then maybe not tried to pretend nothing happened after the game was finished.

Jules Rimet still leaving (Noodle Vague), Monday, 16 July 2018 10:58 (five years ago) link

The press will give it more than enough coverage. I am not sure I want to hear Lee Dixon’s thoughts on the matter.

Wag1 Shree Rajneesh (ShariVari), Monday, 16 July 2018 11:04 (five years ago) link

Lads, it's conpletely standard for the commentator to mildly tut at the pitch invader and for the camera to cut away

Number None, Monday, 16 July 2018 11:09 (five years ago) link

which is fine when it's some borderline mental health case who needs the world to see his arse

Jules Rimet still leaving (Noodle Vague), Monday, 16 July 2018 11:10 (five years ago) link

asking a lot for a commentator to see that in real time without benefit of VAR tbf

dele alli my bookmarks (darraghmac), Monday, 16 July 2018 11:13 (five years ago) link

Also fine here imo.

The politics around Pussy Riot are so complex and divisive at this stage idk what proportion of Russian activists would necessarily be thrilled about them getting much more.

Wag1 Shree Rajneesh (ShariVari), Monday, 16 July 2018 11:13 (five years ago) link

Jules Rimet still leaving (Noodle Vague), Monday, 16 July 2018 13:19 (five years ago) link

It'll be fine until European clubs/leagues suddenly clock what it means for them and then there will probably be a few hissy fits.

Matt DC, Monday, 16 July 2018 13:21 (five years ago) link

predict it will be the best World Cup ever until the 2034 one on the moon

Jules Rimet still leaving (Noodle Vague), Monday, 16 July 2018 13:25 (five years ago) link

if football is ever going to expand its popularity the World Cup needs to be staged in exciting new markets like Qatar and the Moon

All six nations seeded, every single group is a clusterfuck.

Matt DC, Monday, 16 July 2018 13:51 (five years ago) link

Three world cups in a row have taken place in BRICS countries (hey, remember that term?) but they've all been won by countries from western europe. This is my geopolitical macroanalysis of the last eight years of football.
