I don't think anyone here is arguing that her response was absolutely fine. It just seems weird to still be focusing on that when the retaliation from the community was so crazy.

the specifics of the industry they're in makes a bit of back and forth with online "customers" way more appropriate/less of a big deal too imo. it's not like she was, say, the head of state just blathering the most offensive shit that drifted thru her head at all and sundry

this is particularly sad because the voice acting and stories in AAA games are generally on the level of a pretty good high school production

the idea that he shouldn't express disagreement with her about game design because she's a professional game designer and he's just some guy who plays games seems silly to me - of course laypeople can have opinions about computer games, it's not like they're talking about string theory or something

he was disagreeing on a design point. like you should be able to critique creative decisions even if you are not a designer/filmmaker/musician/whatever, we do it all the time. and with stuff like game development, as shitty as some of it is, processing community feedback is part of the gig. i just don't get any whiff of condescension there, guy (regardless of quality of his take) seemed to just want to have a discussion.

I have no idea why a woman in the gaming industry would be so defensive.
