There's a new Six Feet Under EP out today full of leftover tracks from the sessions for Undead and Unborn. It's...fine, if you like Six Feet Under.

Listening to the full-length debut by Trevor Church of Beastmaker's other band, Haunt, which is coming out in August on Shadow Kingdom. It's more trad metal than doom, but just as stripped-down and awesome as the Beastmaker EPs; the dude is basically Wino and Chris Black rolled into one person, plus he's the son of Montrose/Sammy Hagar bassist Bill Church, a fact which will likely interest only me.

Wow, the new Imperial Triumphant record is fantastic. Detuned black metal combined with Glenn Branca/Sonic Youth clang-storms and a seven-member horn chorale (three trumpets, three trombones and a tuba), guest vocalists galore...it's fucking awesome. Review coming on BA this week.

RIP Brett Hoffman
New Immortal is pretty killer tbh. Saw a review that talked about it lacking the "arena rock" flourishes that Abbath would've brought but, come on, "Gates to Blashyrkh" is lighters-up anthemic.
Also this Pact album

RIYL Blizzard Beasts and Morbid Angel derived death metal with a dash of modern black metal. Very fun. I know after the Northern debacle Moribund is looking pretty bad but I like to report on the rare occasions they release something interesting.

New Pig Destroyer song.

Listening to the album now. 12 tracks, 31 minutes. A few guests (Kat from Salome, Richard Johnson from Agoraphobic Nosebleed, some other folks). I continue to believe PD peaked with Terrifyer, but Metal Twitter and all the blogs will jizz in their pants over this one.

oh that's exciting, couldn't tell what to make of the new song except that it's groovier and slower in an interesting way i think

That does nothing for me. The drums, I don't like the drums - they lack the kind of oomph I expect from them. And the song itself is fairly blah, I've already forgotten the riff. I just stuck on Book Burner for comparison and yeah, I won't remember the riffs from this either, but it still leaves me with a feeling.

Pyrexia have a new album coming out in September. They also have a new lead singer, since their old guy is still facing trial for a triple murder in West Virginia.

The second album of triumphant folk metal from Wytch Hazel. I said this about their first album -- The band wear medieval tunics, delve into Christian biblical themes and cite late 70s folk era Jethro Tull as an influence. It’s understandable to assume this Lancaster band is a local group of renaissance fair geeks, and not the blazing new hot shots of British heavy metal. Well, they’re not exactly well known enough to be considered that just yet, but that will hopefully change. While Wytch Hazel work in similar territory as San Francisco’s The Lord Weird Slough Feg did twenty years ago — Celtic folk melodies mixed with Wishbone Ash and Thin Lizzy inspired dual guitars, Slough Feg featured a more hectic early Iron Maiden/NWOBHM gallop, while Wytch Hazel dig deeper into folk and ancient music and the Aolean and Dorian scales which vocalist/guitarist Colin Hendra studied in school. Add obscure early 80s bands like Dark Star, Ashbury andVirtue into the mix, and the result is an alluringly unusual blend of exciting, triumphant anthems and mesmerizing musicianship.

Really hoping the new Aura Noir gets into my hands at some point. Having a lot of bad luck ordering European bands over the past year, like the last Execration - shit comes out and immediately is listed as Out Of Print on our one-stop's website, pre-orders be damned.

Man somebody really needs to do an anthology/reissue of the Doomwatch album A Symphony of Decadence and their demos. They were bros of Dream Death and have a similar rough punky quality, albeit applied to uptempo thrash instead of doom. Somebody... do that.

New split EP from Daemogog (excellent weird brutal death with churning bass and noisy riff-vortices, made my best of 2017 list) and Aumnarium (a little more straightforward brutal dm but still very well done)

the new one from a Dutch band called Shylmagoghnar, on Napalm - I hadn't heard of them before - is arrestingly beautiful music -- synth-loaded mersh black metal style, reminds me a little of Borknagar but not chaotic/herky-jerky. And a little of Agalloch, though since I never warmed up to Agalloch I might just mean "the guitar textures are kinda soft in that PNW dreamy metal style."
anyway, I find this music really inspiring - the synth lines are something else, they really go someplace

I pre-ordered Ineffable Demise's Beyond the Marrow Gates and promptly forgot all about it, until it landed in my inbox today. As expected, it is broooootal death metal that slamz, with a snare drum that sounds like someone tapping on an aluminum screen door with a ball-peen hammer.
