apparently the marlins this year have taken a policy of not lying about attendance so that when it theoretically rises once the team is theoretically better the new ownership group will have an accurate reflection of how much they’ve actually risen attendance \(o_O)/

hi J... I thought MLB-wide policy now was to record attendance as tickets sold for a game, not actual fannies in seats; i wonder if this has changed?

you know, back in the day the boys used to wear wool uniforms and ride in single-berth trains without any air conditioning, all without any complaints at all. in fact they used to wear those wool uniforms on the train, because they loved the game so much. i remember some pranksters setting shoelaces on fire in the dugout, but you know when it was time to lay down a sacrifice bunt for the 5th time in a game, we were ready, and that's something the boys today with their launch angles and metrics can't seem to learn

Both starters were so good - game ended just minutes after sun set, played in a crisp 2:05. Zimmermann threw 96 pitches, 67 for strikes. Colon w/ 97P - 72 strikes. Combined - the two went to a 3-ball count just three times....— Dan Dickerson (@Dan_Dickerson) July 7, 2018

it's a result of the new CBA:
As part of baseball’s new Collective Bargaining Agreement with the players’ union, the 2018 season will include a shorter spring training, more off days during the season, and add four more days to the playing calendar. That means an earlier start to the season, in late March.
It also means the Thursday of the All-Star break will feature one game, a nationally broadcast game ala Sunday Night Baseball. According to a schedule given the Cardinals they will play against the Cubs at Wrigley Field that day, July 19. Teams can be selected only once during the span of the current CBA for that All-Star Thursday game.
