I have alot of time for the SV songs on Love This Giant, less os the DB songs. That said his performance of 'I Should Watch TV' in London the other day was a lot of fun.

Marry Me is a bit jazzier than her later albums and is a bit frontloaded, but it's definitely worth a listen. All My Stars Aligned, Your Lips Are Red and Marry Me are the standouts.

Strange Mercy > s/t = Actor > Marry Me > Masseduction

Strange Mercy is definitely my favourite, but the self-titled and Actor are right behind it. Marry Me is nice and all, albeit sounds a bit juvenile and crafty compared to her later work. Masseduction I've warmed up to after my initial disappointment, but it still leaves me a bit cold in places -- I blame Antonoff's glossy production which sanded off her edges.

Can't remember much about Love This Giant TBH save for the fact that it had some cool brass arrangements. Perhaps it's time to give it a spin and reevaluate it.

REALLY enjoyed the Krokodil/Grot 7" she released right after Strange Mercy, was hoping she'd go in that direction more.

don't get people who like Strange Mercy. Is it just because of Cruel? Rest of it sounds absolutely horrid.

probably it's bcz it's her BEST ALBUM

he he at least it's v cohesive, almost all highlights from start to finish, best tracks are Cruel, Surgeon and Northern Lights'

what convinced me was seeing the songs live on the LTG tour w/ Byrne, esp Cheerleader leaped out

okay but Actor might also be her best

for some sad reason while I still stan for her I kinda stopped listening thoroughly on s/t and masseduction (enjoyed the singles though)

saw her in concert last week, a+

basically Johnny Fever's first answer. the S/T blew me away at the time but Masseduction lost me completely so now I'm more likely to go back to Actor

Voted Actor but really she’s not done anything ‘bad’. Strange Mercy and the DB collaboration are the least enjoyable for me, but still good records.

Vaguely surprised that Strange Mercy beat the eponymous one.

Hey Bob (Scik Mouthy), Saturday, 1 September 2018 08:06 (five years ago) link

it's more consistent
