i've been shouting that they fell off i guess since Blueprint 2? but nah really over the years i've gotten to the point where even if their hit/miss ratio is really bad, they still do occasionally make a track I really dig. here's a vague list of my favorites from 2004 to present:
Cee-Lo - "The Art of Noise"NERD - "Maybe"Jay-Z - "Allure"Talib Kweli - "Broken Glass"Snoop Dogg f/ Justin Timberlake and Charlie Wilson - "Signs"The Clipse f/ Pharrell - "Stuntin' Y'all"Twista f/ Pharrell - "Lavish"Omarion - "Touch"T.I. f/ Pharrell and Common - "Goodlife"John Legend f/ Kanye West - "It's Over"NERD - "You Know What"Common - "Announcement"Jadakiss - "Stress Ya"

Twista's "Give It Up" is from 2 years ago, btw.
I was listening to "She Likes To Move" the other day thanks to The Fast and The Furious: Tokyo Drift and I think that song encapsulates pretty much everything I love about the NERD aesthetic, almost to the point where I don't think I ever need to hear another NERD track.

give it up was 2 years ago? huh, and i just realized they didn't produce all those cool tracks on "we got it for cheap vol 2" either (though half of them sound like they did). maybe they *are* falling off! they do anything worth noting in the last year besides the nerd album?
n.e.r.d. recently scheduled then cancelled a show in jakarta too, which kinda pisses me off.
― messiahwannabe, Thursday, 28 May 2009 02:45 (fourteen years ago) link
stuff they did last year besides NERD: the whole Common album, half the Madonna album, half the Ashlee Simpson album, songs by Solange, John Legend, Snoop.

― J0rdan S., Sunday, 21 August 2011 05:13 (twelve years ago) link
^those j0rd songs are all R&B-tinged, and while all great songs, I wouldn't classify any of them as "bangers" in the context of this rap-heavy mix
"Grindin'" and "Got Your Money" are dope imo, but I don't like em as much as these other 19...
― Lil Boosie's on the Up (Whiney G. Weingarten), Sunday, 21 August 2011 05:17 (twelve years ago) link
Plus "When The Last Time" > "Grindin'" any day
― Lil Boosie's on the Up (Whiney G. Weingarten), Sunday, 21 August 2011 05:18 (twelve years ago) link
"Tit 4 Tat" and "Lookin' At Me" are the weakest songs on this list imo. Should prolly replace one with "Grindin'," but they're both pet faves o mine
― Lil Boosie's on the Up (Whiney G. Weingarten), Sunday, 21 August 2011 05:22 (twelve years ago) link
"cross the border".
― Tim F, Sunday, 21 August 2011 05:24 (twelve years ago) link
I'm very partial to "pass the courvoisier part 2" but that'd be too much busta.
― Tim F, Sunday, 21 August 2011 05:26 (twelve years ago) link
yeah, me too!
That one just missed the cut alongside Fam-Lay's "Rock & Roll"
― Lil Boosie's on the Up (Whiney G. Weingarten), Sunday, 21 August 2011 05:28 (twelve years ago) link
also, the "cross the border" chorus is so bad
no way cross the border is awesome

"popular thug" is enough of a banger to be on here and also is lifechanging.
― Tim F, Sunday, 21 August 2011 05:31 (twelve years ago) link
i feel you, i still think they're some of his best songs tho
also i'll throw in a vote for "i'm serious" as an underrated neptunes banger
― J0rdan S., Sunday, 21 August 2011 05:34 (twelve years ago) link
i swear i feel like this is missing something (even within the context of "bangers instead of r&b") but i can't for the life of me remember what it is.
― king of torts (strongo hulkington's ghost dad), Sunday, 21 August 2011 05:35 (twelve years ago) link
i've also been partial to "diddy" & "danger" over "shake ya ass"
― J0rdan S., Sunday, 21 August 2011 05:37 (twelve years ago) link
"i'm serious" just missed the cut too! Definitely room for a Volume 2!

I think what pains me the most is to leave off my beloved "Lapdance" since it doesn't really flow with the vibe of the others

"like a boss"
also you already have a lot of busta but "what it is" is my favorite besides "light your ass on fire"
― my own private kanyes west (The Brainwasher), Sunday, 21 August 2011 05:43 (twelve years ago) link
also "flap ya wings" by nelly is one of their dopest beats imo
this is a hella obscure one but i always lovedhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nhhNBKXChVM

"Like A Boss" was 2005 and I think "Drop It's Like It's Hot" is universally known as the end of the Neptunes era. Had I extended it, there would have been room for "Like A Boss" and "Mr. Me Too" I guess?

I think "Drop It's Like It's Hot" is universally known as the end of the Neptunes era
i want to argue this but i also think maybe i just don't want seven years to have passed
― king of torts (strongo hulkington's ghost dad), Sunday, 21 August 2011 05:47 (twelve years ago) link
drop it like its hot seemed like new era neps to me & i dont really associate it w/ the early run

the approach was more delicate at that pt
challops but this beat is better than "drop it like it's hot" imo:

i agree p much w/ deej
i would take drop it like it's hot out

also the "drop it like it's hot remix" >>>>> o.g.
― J0rdan S., Sunday, 21 August 2011 05:49 (twelve years ago) link
the hissing drone in "Drop It Like It's Hot" is v much in tune with the whine aesthetic

and "like a boss" was released in '04 according to google:

I think a 05-present Neps comp would be a lot more interesting... obviously their output is a lot spottier, but I think the high points might actually be better than their peak era.

it would be like Mr. Me Too and that Teriyaki Boys song and then me groaning in agony for 62 minutes
