7 ODI's or 7 20/20's are far too much. as are 5. 2 or 3 20/20's should be the max. But they're money spinners and are more popular with the public than test matches so there's just going to be more and more.

3 ODI's and 3 20/20s in a tour is still too much.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Wednesday, 27 May 2009 13:41 (fourteen years ago) link

Disagree. Unless you wanna cut that down to 2 of each

sad blue nose hybrid with shit football crew (country matters), Wednesday, 27 May 2009 13:42 (fourteen years ago) link

1 each would be enough for me

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Wednesday, 27 May 2009 13:46 (fourteen years ago) link

Not sure what purpose ODIs serve in the 20/20 era. Both are shortened "more exciting" forms of the game, 20/20 works better than day night after work and given the amount of tinkering that has been done with ODIs to keep them "interesting" (powerplay nonsense) I'm not sure what the point is.

There hasn't been an ODI double-hundred yet! When that happens, time for byebye maybe. :P

Somerset seem to have unearthed a new legspinner. More importantly, he has an awesome, awesome name: MAX WALLER

although tbf it only works if spoken in an American accent

england really wasting that good start

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Friday, 5 June 2009 18:10 (fourteen years ago) link

I thought David Gedge bowled really well.

problem chimp (Porkpie), Friday, 5 June 2009 18:11 (fourteen years ago) link

162-5 no sixes and only 13 fours. Hardly any runs off the last 5 overs. Holland very much in this. They look delighted.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Friday, 5 June 2009 18:16 (fourteen years ago) link

It should be enough as it's only Holland but it's not good enough after the start they had. England have no chance of winning the world cup.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Friday, 5 June 2009 18:17 (fourteen years ago) link

Holland look like winning and its raining and are ahead on duckworth-lewis

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Friday, 5 June 2009 19:18 (fourteen years ago) link

i was just about to ask how are we doing, cause i can't even understand those scoring lines. as long as we're winning it's fine by me.

Ludo, Friday, 5 June 2009 19:20 (fourteen years ago) link

Holland need 47 from 42 balls with 6 wkts left

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Friday, 5 June 2009 19:24 (fourteen years ago) link

so the England guy that throws the balls is trying to hit a wicket right?

Ludo, Friday, 5 June 2009 19:25 (fourteen years ago) link

Englands fielding has been abysmal

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Friday, 5 June 2009 19:54 (fourteen years ago) link

some of the worst fielding ever, england wont win this

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Friday, 5 June 2009 19:57 (fourteen years ago) link

absolutely disgusting fielding there. shameful

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Friday, 5 June 2009 20:02 (fourteen years ago) link

England are officially a joke now.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Friday, 5 June 2009 20:02 (fourteen years ago) link

That was comical in the extreme. Lost their heads. I must admit I find it hard to care - but let's hope this 20/20 doesn't set the tone for the summer the way the one in 2005 against the Aussies did.

GamalielRatsey, Friday, 5 June 2009 20:11 (fourteen years ago) link

yay! i guess. but since this was so close, i guess "we" sucked as hard as the English, except there are only 6000 people playing this sport here anyway. (we probably threw around some passports for anyone who was interested in playing for us)

Ludo, Friday, 5 June 2009 20:26 (fourteen years ago) link

Lot of pressure on the Dutch at the end there and they didn't crack, so completely deserved winners I reckon.

GamalielRatsey, Friday, 5 June 2009 20:36 (fourteen years ago) link

I think there may be a few saffas on the Dutch side, but I hope there's plenty of focus on how well Holland played, despite how woeful England were, they were ace.

problem chimp (Porkpie), Friday, 5 June 2009 20:40 (fourteen years ago) link

Absolutely, the win was utterly deserved. England middle order poor, english fielding dreadful, but the Dutch played really, really well.

S Wine Floozie (SeekAltRoute), Saturday, 6 June 2009 08:50 (fourteen years ago) link

I heard it was because of Holland's "Total Cricket" strategy...

snoball, Saturday, 6 June 2009 10:00 (fourteen years ago) link

7 overs a side is farcical, no? Still, decent total by Scotland.

dada wouldn't buy me a bauhaus (aldo), Saturday, 6 June 2009 12:02 (fourteen years ago) link

Yes, it's nonsense, I remember some friends going to a Twenty20 a couple of years ago which was rained into a five over per side match. But it gives a good chance for the underdogs to cause, well, not exactly an upset, because it's almost like flipping a coin, but put the cat amongst the pigeons a bit.

4.1

Lee to Gayle, SIX, One mighty wallop! He cleared the front hit and thwacked it high and over midwicket. Into the school beyond the boundary. What a whack that was.

4.2

Lee to Gayle, no run, yorker around the off stump, dug out to the off side

4.3

Lee to Gayle, SIX, Oh boy what a violent six this was .. Immense fun ... It was the slower one but he picked it up early, waited for it, cleared the front foot and killed it over long-on. Hope the school kids are not wandering around the stadium. It crashed into the roof .. what a big big hit ....

4.4

Lee to Gayle, no run, he moves towards off, comes back into position to dig out a yorker to the off side

4.5

Lee to Gayle, (no ball) FOUR, Violence refuses to abate at The Oval. Gayle is wreaking havoc. Lee, from round the stumps this time, serves one full delivery outside off and Gayle crashes it over covers in his inimitable style. What's more, it's a free hit too

4.5

Lee to Gayle, FOUR, That has almost decapitated Fletcher. It was full and outside off, Gayle murdered it past the startled Fletcher who dived to the ground. Blink. The ball is picked up from the long-off boundary. Lee is bleeding here. What can he do to stop this man?

4.6

Lee to Gayle, SIX, As it turns out, he can do nothing but watch Gayle dismiss him everywhere around the ground. It was a short delivery, Gayle opened up his stance, kept his front foot outside leg and smashed it high into the midwicket stands. The white ball is flying all over.
