Like, one of these girls has the most fucking annoying accent. It's a shame, because otherwise I like this record - although it's not great.

Wow, this album is fantastic. I really didn't expect to love it this much after how I little I thought of the debut. Everybody is OTM about Donnie Darko, it's one of the best things I've heard all year.

This is really shaping up to be an incredible year for albums and we still have Mitski and The 1975 to come!

Yeah, I agree that this is turning out to be a great year for albums - the best since 2013, probably. As for this album - it's okay. I had another listen to it, but got about three tracks in and put the latest Chvrches on instead. 'Donnie Darko' is decent, but doesn't deliver to the level everyone is saying it does - I suspect it'll be a different story once they've lived with the album for a while.

Okay, fourth listen and singing aside, this rules. 'Cool & Collected' the clear highlight, IMO.

The thing about Donnie Darko is that it's basically its own Jacques Lu Cont remix. The whole thing is pretty great, they have a lucrative future in soundtracking action-packed kids movies when the band reaches the end of its shelf life.

I thought the name was annoying until I realised a) they're actually teenagers and b) they fit into a kind of cartoonishly macabre British tradition that doesn't make its way into pop very often (thinking Roald Dahl, Angela Carter in particular here).

'Cool & Collected' the clear highlight, IMO.

I like too many songs to have a clear highlight, but I do love C&C. Among other things it feels like the long-awaited sequel to Sinead's "Jackie."

My LP and Zine have arrived. The Zine looks very nice but it's mostly photos, not much text. The main concept: the duo ask various other ppl they've worked with (photographers and artists as well as musicians) four set questions about creativity and print their responses. Conversely, Faris Badwan talks about L.E.G.'s creative processes; interesting fact: "Hot Pink" was originally "Slime Green"!

I was also put in mind of Ewan Pearson remixing Cortney Tidwell and Michael Mayer remixing Baxendale - though I like it as a song better than either of those.

Anyway, I'm about to have another listen of this, prompted by the fact that I can't get 'Falling Into Me' out of my head.

I'm interested because it's such a specific thing to single out as "fucking annoying".

I don't think it's necessary to go into specifics. It's really as simple as not finding a sound pleasant to listen to.

But that's okay, Billy Corgan's voice is unpleasant but it doesn't prevent me from listening to The Smashing Pumpkins.

Katherine, no it isn't and please stop looking for ways of reading that into every post you can. Your intentions are good, and I share your views on gender equality, but you approach the subject in a way that is utterly tiresome and harms what you're setting out to achieve.

Just as an aside, I'm delighted that my political views were set in stone long before I joined ILX. If were some kind of young floater trying to figure out on which part of the political spectrum I sat, then this place would make leaning to the left politically and social justice look so unappealing just simply by association.

you can't get through two sentences without being a condescending dick or making insultingly reductive generalizations about everyone who posts here

As I've said, my political leanings are to the left and I'm very proud of that, but the truth of the matter is that if you really want to counteract a general drift into right-wing thinking and promote social justice, then you have to make it appealing to those finding their feet politically and those that are able to be swayed. ILX seems to me to be quite lousy at this.

Anyway, this album has become one of my favourites this year.

The average age of ILX posters is like 35 at this stage. The idea that this place represents some kind of front against impressionable kids drifting towards the alt-right is self-evidently ludicrous.

i had great parents. exposed to every culture in the world. friends who were straight, gay, bi, trans, and questioning. a loving support system. a great career in a liberal city.

then i joined ILX.

The average age of ILX posters may very well be 35 at this stage, but given that anyone can land upon this place with the right Google searches and read these boards, that's a moot point. There is also no age limit on having your mind changed - and also, yes, there are a lot of people here that are very passionate about their left leaning views and would love to see the world in general steered in that direction.

my point was less about any specific instance and more about the pattern of women's voices being the ones to be described as "annoying" enough to keep people from listening to their music, where comparatively difficult men's voices -- many of which I like -- are less frequently seen as this much of an issue
