flappy bird, Thursday, 28 June 2018 19:36 (five years ago) link

this is going to be really bad

flopson, Friday, 29 June 2018 01:33 (five years ago) link

but Nice For What is so good

flappy bird, Friday, 29 June 2018 01:56 (five years ago) link

I liked More Life a lot more than Views. there's gotta be at least like 3-4 good songs if the album is 25 songs long

flappy bird, Friday, 29 June 2018 01:56 (five years ago) link

this is prime New Jersey material

The Desus & Mero Chain (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Friday, 29 June 2018 03:01 (five years ago) link

haters !

flappy bird, Friday, 29 June 2018 05:06 (five years ago) link

I've made it to Nice for What and yeah it completely towers everything else before it. Summer Games is pretty interesting though

josh az (2011nostalgia), Friday, 29 June 2018 05:17 (five years ago) link

drake are u ok

stoker (Ross), Friday, 29 June 2018 05:22 (five years ago) link

damn josh you're in deep

flappy bird, Friday, 29 June 2018 05:30 (five years ago) link

im too tired & stoned to sit thru 16 songs or whatever to get to nice for what

flappy bird, Friday, 29 June 2018 05:31 (five years ago) link

89 minutes, congratulations Drake !

flappy bird, Friday, 29 June 2018 05:32 (five years ago) link

Yeah, dunno tend to agree with turrican that albums should be shorter, not longer...this is bloatware

stoker (Ross), Friday, 29 June 2018 08:34 (five years ago) link

Yeah Kanye's trend of 9 tracks albums is perfectly fine by me (except when they all suck).

AlXTC from Paris, Friday, 29 June 2018 09:40 (five years ago) link

"Ratchet Happy Birthday" will park itself in the culture, in part because it's Drake and also it sounds different from any other birthday jam.

... (Eazy), Friday, 29 June 2018 11:35 (five years ago) link

is there more to life...than all these asses that never come in proportionate size

johnny crunch, Friday, 29 June 2018 13:11 (five years ago) link

The MJ feat is nice.

AlXTC from Paris, Friday, 29 June 2018 15:48 (five years ago) link

I like the necromantic MJ collab but I was kind of hoping those studio photos with Paul Anka were for something more interesting than him scrubbing up an old session outtake he did with a more famous person

You're all losing so many points on your progress bars (Champiness), Friday, 29 June 2018 17:50 (five years ago) link

I’ve only listened to the whole thing once but so far I feel like the last third of the album might be the strongest.

AlXTC from Paris, Friday, 29 June 2018 18:35 (five years ago) link

^ same. I got way too excited when that Maxwell sample came on

josh az (2011nostalgia), Friday, 29 June 2018 18:41 (five years ago) link

"Summer Games" is fantastic

flappy bird, Friday, 29 June 2018 18:43 (five years ago) link

the only one i've heard so far is one that got played on the radio on my way 2 work, he was singing aimlessly and the phrase "changing from a boy to man" or something otherwise cringe-inducing was deployed. didn't enjoy

dyl, Saturday, 30 June 2018 01:51 (five years ago) link

« 8 out of 10 » is also pretty cool.
I’m starting to enjoy this album!

AlXTC from Paris, Saturday, 30 June 2018 12:01 (five years ago) link

wasn't Views the New Jersey?

piscesx, Saturday, 30 June 2018 12:25 (five years ago) link

I think for some, « Take Care » was his « New Jersey » !
« Sandra’s Rose » is also nice.
I already like this more than « More Life ».

AlXTC from Paris, Saturday, 30 June 2018 13:03 (five years ago) link

The MJ song is nice. As someone not from the Canada/US I’ve never quite understood all the Drake love/hate. The rap tracks never make it over here but his r&b dancehall things like “one dance”, “hold on we’re going home” and “passionfruit” were pretty well received and I think they felt refreshing for mainstream radio.

summer games is a great Sum 41 song

niels, Saturday, 30 June 2018 15:18 (five years ago) link

Spotify really wants me to listen to this album. How much did he ñay? He is in every single one of today’s recommended playlists. He is even in the cover of a fucking “bachata lovers” playlist. He doesn’t even have any bachata songs (and there’s no Drake songs in there, no idea why his stupid face has hijacked that one too) wtf:

✖✖✖ (Moka), Saturday, 30 June 2018 19:01 (five years ago) link

Oh he makes a guest appearance on some Romeo Santos song in there, still it’s pretty ridiculous.

✖✖✖ (Moka), Saturday, 30 June 2018 19:02 (five years ago) link

Oh I see now:

https://crackmagazine.net/2018/06/drake-is-the-face-of-every-playlist-on-spotify-today/

Apparently it’s a new thing spotify is trying. “Artist takeovers”

“8 Out of 10”: passive-aggressive diss track.

... (Eazy), Saturday, 30 June 2018 20:59 (five years ago) link

Too lazy and not interested enough to check if this number is true but it’s hilarious if true:

Dude drake is too rich to be saying he can’t take a joke. Can take those dollars tho and infinite coverage on Spotify. Fraud

Garden variety uncouth (Ross), Sunday, 1 July 2018 08:42 (five years ago) link

I don’t get drake. Let’s keep it that way

Garden variety uncouth (Ross), Sunday, 1 July 2018 08:42 (five years ago) link

supreme court justice samuel lance-ito (voodoo chili), Monday, 9 July 2018 14:28 (five years ago) link

Really good this, better than Views which i liked some of just fine but this is more of a deliberate step up; arrangement-wise, the samples..
In My Feelings is clearly fantastic.

piscesx, Monday, 9 July 2018 18:01 (five years ago) link

Definitely better than Views, certainly earns its double album status though I haven't listened to it enough to say whether or not it's his best.

flappy bird, Monday, 9 July 2018 18:05 (five years ago) link

no fucking way is it his best!

The Desus & Mero Chain (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Monday, 9 July 2018 18:12 (five years ago) link

i listened to side b again today and it sounded better to me than when it first dropped. still think this record is a big strategic misstep for him... on more life he basically apologized for the acidity of views but then he came back w/ this which is basically a double down

the rap parts of this album just seem to be made strictly to titillate gossip, which i find kinda tiresome... it's like a westworld or latter day game of thrones episode that seems to exist only to generate plot and resultant recap blog posts. there's still moments of clarity here and there where i feel like you can connect w/ him/the record but it's pretty alienating in a lot of places to me, moreso than any of his other records i think

J0rdan S., Monday, 9 July 2018 18:17 (five years ago) link

xp phaps a challop but i could never get into him before 2015 (partly IYRTITL but mostly Hotline Bling).

flappy bird, Monday, 9 July 2018 18:17 (five years ago) link

the idea that this album is anything close to his best is... um

J0rdan S., Monday, 9 July 2018 18:21 (five years ago) link

my drake top 4: if you’re reading, more life, take care, nothing was the same. not sure the order as i have t listened to the last 2 in years

flopson, Monday, 9 July 2018 18:53 (five years ago) link

Wish reviews of this had less to do with the Drake persona, and more about his shitty, droning flow + bland beats that drag/don’t pop, like they always have, only with a few extra soul samples thrown in. Hoping I go from being a hater to ahead of the curve on this in the future

nova, Friday, 13 July 2018 20:42 (five years ago) link

1.98 on rym lol

No angel came (Ross), Friday, 20 July 2018 15:42 (five years ago) link

had not heard In My Feelings until now but it's shockingly great

ufo, Friday, 3 August 2018 06:05 (five years ago) link

big into dont matter to me

this album is good but a bit of a snore, took 4 weeks to even get through it

the 2nd half picks up the momentum a bit though which is smart on his part

fucking hate that interlude though where a voice says you mad!

eris (Ross), Friday, 3 August 2018 15:33 (five years ago) link

Eheh yeah I love this album and « 8 out of 10 » is one of my favourite tracks on it but that « you mad » part makes me want to kill!

AlXTC from Paris, Friday, 3 August 2018 15:54 (five years ago) link

nice to hear someone feels the same!
