definitely, especially since a lot of the rumors of his discontent were before the public comments. i don't take everything coming out of the kawhi camp at face value.

The Spurs are fully engaged in trade talks with several teams on Kawhi Leonard, including the Lakers and Celtics, league sources tell ESPN. Boston has long had the assets that the Spurs most covet in a potential Leonard trade.

Rumblings of a Godfather Lakers offer for San Antonio's Kawhi Leonard have rival teams wondering if anyone else can compete here. The latest summer of LeBron has officially begun...

ciderpress, Thursday, 28 June 2018 16:39 (five years ago) link

lonzo seems like a great spur. his dad otoh...

and yeah lagoon otm, if anyone is capable of making the godfather offer it's boston. though not sure they should

i cld be wrong but i dont think theyll deal horford or hayward cause that hurts their credibility with future big free agents, kyrie tho...

sprout god (lag∞n), Thursday, 28 June 2018 16:50 (five years ago) link

just gonna lay it all on the table here i want them to trade kyrie for kawhi so the celtics can have a complete starting lineup of 6-8 guys

sprout god (lag∞n), Thursday, 28 June 2018 16:51 (five years ago) link

i need to see it

kyrie or ingram + kuz?

sprout god (lag∞n), Thursday, 28 June 2018 16:57 (five years ago) link

(celtics have much better draft picks to offer if it comes down to that)

sprout god (lag∞n), Thursday, 28 June 2018 16:57 (five years ago) link

This doesn't guarantee Kawhi Leonard is going to the Lakers this week -- since San Antonio could always trade him elsewhere and/or drag things out -- but league sources say of the Spurs: "They're ready" to move on from Kawhi

If kawhi has accomplished one goal, it would be making himself untenable to the spurs, so that their trading him seems inevitable. then, too, making sure the whole league knows kawhi wants to go to LA will scare off a lot of potential dance partners, upping the chances LA will get him.

and the only cost to kawhi has been totally shredding his reputation by making him look sullen, petulant, badly injured, and a very risky bet for any team wanting to give him a long-term max contract. success!

this could get more interesting if there's a deal in principle and his medicals start getting shared

feel like the spurs might prefer kyrie as the lakers deal is really a rebuilding move

sprout god (lag∞n), Thursday, 28 June 2018 17:44 (five years ago) link

and the celtics as they are worried abt kyrie leaving next year anyway maybe wldnt even care about getting a commitment from kawhi

sprout god (lag∞n), Thursday, 28 June 2018 17:45 (five years ago) link

kyrie plus the SAC pick gets it done for me. can draft a future piece next year and continue being competitive this year.

21st savagery fox (m bison), Thursday, 28 June 2018 17:47 (five years ago) link

i kinda dont see the celtics throwing in either the sac or mem pick w kyrie, unless maybe if they were confident kawhi is fully healthy and he agrees to an extension

sprout god (lag∞n), Thursday, 28 June 2018 17:49 (five years ago) link

prob not, but spurs won't make that deal straight up

21st savagery fox (m bison), Thursday, 28 June 2018 17:51 (five years ago) link

cld see kyrie + a celtics pick or a lesser young dude something like that

Potential offer sheet target for Indiana Pacers' anticipated https://twitter.com/wojespn/status/10123832431009751040M-plus in salary cap space, league sources tell ESPN: Orlando Magic restricted free agent forward Aaron Gordon.

Yeah

Players have more freedom comparatively

But also two current factors we may not always have: a bunch of gms unafraid to let their nuts hang (ainge Morey presti etc); and the sheer gravity of lebron free agency

"Who the Spurs want to get deeply involved with is the Boston Celtics." what a way to make a living.

scopin' VARs (Sufjan Grafton), Thursday, 28 June 2018 22:20 (five years ago) link

i mean its obvious celtics got the best assets but its also obv they dont want to pay market for nothing bc DEALS

21st savagery fox (m bison), Thursday, 28 June 2018 22:22 (five years ago) link

they also won’t pay market because kawhi is damaged goods.

call all destroyer, Thursday, 28 June 2018 22:34 (five years ago) link

shhhh he's probably fine

21st savagery fox (m bison), Thursday, 28 June 2018 22:35 (five years ago) link

even at 90% he's better than anyone on the celtics currently

21st savagery fox (m bison), Thursday, 28 June 2018 22:35 (five years ago) link

another aspect to the whole Kawhi thing i just considered and correct me if i'm wrong on some points: that while the public didn't know it, it's likely that the team probably knew that Pop's wife was battling an illness that was likely going to take her life, and through all this he was coaching and handling the team, and Kawhi's absence and weirdness would be even worse in the context of all that, especially with Pop being a genuinely beloved guy and player's coach; Kawhi just acting in a way that was making Pop's professional life more difficult while his personal life was causing him ridiculous amounts of stress.

omar little, Thursday, 28 June 2018 22:39 (five years ago) link

it would also explain a bit more a lot of the snappiness directed at Kawhi from certain guys, idk though, it's just speculation.

omar little, Thursday, 28 June 2018 22:39 (five years ago) link

v v possible. altho nothing ive read indicates that kawhi had any beef with pop specifically, that most of his ire is with the org as a whole/med staff. but def fucked up.

You say you want my trust and told me you were leavin'
How am I to know that you won't do it to me
Your tellin' me its different but what the hell is different
If you cheated on pop you'll do it to me

scopin' VARs (Sufjan Grafton), Thursday, 28 June 2018 22:44 (five years ago) link

From the outside looking in, Kawhi's uncle Dennis seems like a big problem ... like maybe bigger than Lavar? What do you think, bise?

reggae mike love (polyphonic), Thursday, 28 June 2018 23:05 (five years ago) link

that the spurs would be asking for a ton for kawhi and that the celtics would be trying to offer significantly less than that just seems like... normal trade negotiations to me?

J0rdan S., Thursday, 28 June 2018 23:14 (five years ago) link

of course, which is why articles about how the spurs really wish the celtics would put their best and final on the table are funny.

the narrative from Extremely Hurt Spurs Fans is that kawhi's uncle is pulling the strings and influencing kawhi so they can all live it up back home in socal. i don't think that kawhi would be passing up all this money* unless he really didn't want to be here. he's losing at least ~$30M by not signing this supermax extension, and if he gets traded to [non-LA team x] and signs with some other teams, that's another tens of millions of dollars he's passing up (which i why i think celtics should seriously consider taking on kawhi and then if he wants to leave, get some sign and trade stuff coming back their way. if he doesn't, yay for them).
