The World Cup is a totally fertile field for hating on vile politics and economics, anybody can take their pick tbf. Still have a softer spot for Brazil as a team than these other lads.

By other lads I mean any of the other 3 teams in this sitch.
― Kroos on first (Noodle Vague), Wednesday, 27 June 2018 17:51 (five years ago) link
would love to see film of neuerโs reactions from the point he lost the ball upfield onwards. did he start trying to sprint back? at what point did he give up and succumb to despair?
― I'd Rather Kecak (NickB), Wednesday, 27 June 2018 17:53 (five years ago) link
Then the utter humiliation of having to play the remainder of the match back in goal in case he fucked up again.
― Alan Alba (Tom D.), Wednesday, 27 June 2018 17:55 (five years ago) link
Not been a great few months for German goalkeepers tbh.
sometimes the football teams and fans are the more modern/moderate/less hegemonic parts of society and it feels unfair to boo them for the faults of the wider nation, other times you've got australian fans making monkey noises at peruvian players. the world cup is truly a playground for prejudice
― ogmor, Wednesday, 27 June 2018 17:58 (five years ago) link
he didn't spend the rest of the match in goal though!
― mark s, Wednesday, 27 June 2018 17:58 (five years ago) link
Wtf @ monkey noises... was this at the game, or ppl watching back in aus?

Feels like it's been a good World's Cup for fan behaviour but wow fuck that.

Post Options Post by groovypanda on 7 minutes agoPerfect viewing of the earlier games. Watched the first half of the German match then switched to Mexico Sweden for second half. When Sweden went 3 nil up switched back to watch final 12 minutes of Germany's exit. Usually miss all the goals when I do that.
Second SK goal was fantastic viewing.
Just wondering, with Son scoring again today are Spurs current top scorers in this WC? Or have Real got more?
― groovypanda, Wednesday, 27 June 2018 18:16 (five years ago) link
I think Real have 8 (Ronaldo x4, Modric x2, Nacho, Isco) to Spurs 7
― Number None, Wednesday, 27 June 2018 18:30 (five years ago) link
oh wait Toni Kroos as well

Eriksen tho

yeah I'm not good at this

I'm in medical school and I know a thing or two about faking symptoms, so when neymar is grabbing his leg and voluntarily rolling on top of it several times in a row, it makes me think his leg doesn't hurt that much
― k3vin k., Wednesday, 27 June 2018 18:34 (five years ago) link
Him faking doesn't mean there isn't a foul (or that there is one).
― Van Horn Street, Wednesday, 27 June 2018 18:36 (five years ago) link
does Paulinho count for Spurs
― Number None, Wednesday, 27 June 2018 18:36 (five years ago) link
you should get a card for excessively 'making a meal of it' as you lads say, it's lame
― k3vin k., Wednesday, 27 June 2018 18:37 (five years ago) link
Neymar will hurt himself with one of those rolls one day. The most hateable player in world football rn
― Dark Mavis (Michael B), Wednesday, 27 June 2018 18:39 (five years ago) link
key and peele did a good sketch along such lines
― imago, Wednesday, 27 June 2018 18:40 (five years ago) link
it was quite funny when he did that dramatic injury thing against colombia last time but he had actually fractured his back
― imago, Wednesday, 27 June 2018 18:41 (five years ago) link
Serbia not up to it tbh.
― Alan Alba (Tom D.), Wednesday, 27 June 2018 18:41 (five years ago) link
I don't give much of a fuck about theatrics, it's either a foul or not
― Kroos on first (Noodle Vague), Wednesday, 27 June 2018 18:42 (five years ago) link
xp I remember instantly declaring he was faking
― ogmor, Wednesday, 27 June 2018 18:42 (five years ago) link
I'd be more worried about Coutinho's back this time out. Carrying him, etc, etc
― Number None, Wednesday, 27 June 2018 18:42 (five years ago) link
I have question marks about hating over-acting and "real man tough guy" shit tbh
― Kroos on first (Noodle Vague), Wednesday, 27 June 2018 18:43 (five years ago) link
lol come on
― k3vin k., Wednesday, 27 June 2018 18:43 (five years ago) link
almost like the acting is done with the clear purpose of drawing calls on borderline plays
― k3vin k., Wednesday, 27 June 2018 18:44 (five years ago) link
"I don't know much about soccer but they really need to do something about the flopping" is a proud american tradition NV

hehe
― k3vin k., Wednesday, 27 June 2018 18:45 (five years ago) link
'actually flopping is ok'
― k3vin k., Wednesday, 27 June 2018 18:46 (five years ago) link
His over-acting is awful. I also hate Neymar for his abuse to referees, opposing & fellow players and self-aggrandising bullshit
― Dark Mavis (Michael B), Wednesday, 27 June 2018 18:49 (five years ago) link
hey Kevin I wasn't having a pop about you, there's a long honourable tradition of Brit pundits doing same. I know it's great but it'd one of those gamesmanship parts of the game and every sport's got some of them as far as I can see
― Kroos on first (Noodle Vague), Wednesday, 27 June 2018 18:57 (five years ago) link
The only two 6-6-6-0 groups were in 1994 when it was still 24 teams, so all three went through in both cases.
One team has been knocked out of a four-team group with two wins though, but this was in the two-points-per-win era: the notorious Algerian exit of 1982.
― anatol_merklich, Wednesday, 27 June 2018 18:58 (five years ago) link
"I know it's *not* great", sorry. Pro athletes cheat, within the specific parameters of their sport. Such is moneyball.
― Kroos on first (Noodle Vague), Wednesday, 27 June 2018 18:59 (five years ago) link
Neymar's incessant writhing about gets a bit much at times, star player - but an even bigger cunt than most of them are imo!

if only Mitrovic had three heads, one on the end of each leg

Been wondering for a while now: what's the most tattooed team at this WC?
― lbi's life of limitless european glamour (Le Bateau Ivre), Wednesday, 27 June 2018 19:29 (five years ago) link
as was mentioned i think in the hype & anticipation thread, lots of brazilians have mixed feelings about supporting the national side in the current climate (hence the natty red shirts free from association with the brazilian football federation) and some are even supporting argentina. it's very difficult to feel bad about neymar losingโ ogmor, Wednesday, 27 June 2018 Bookmark Flag Post Permalink

Yeah I wonder what the impact will be on the elections if Brazil win the wc. Rather have Argentina or Colombia winning from South America.
― xyzzzz__, Wednesday, 27 June 2018 19:32 (five years ago) link
One of the Latin ones probably.
Very disappointing performance from the likes of Kane, Lingard, Rashford & Welbeck xp
